Listen, I got something I need you to do. I need you to make sure you're available April 13-14. That's MAG CON weekend.

MAG CON, April 13-14
New Caney ISD Annex Building
22500 Eagle Drive
New Caney, Texas 77357

MAG CON is a gaming convention that focuses on board, card, and role-playing games. MAG CON's goal is to provide a great value for attendees - great games and concessions at a low price. MAG CON is a fundraiser for The Learning Center campus in New Caney ISD. All proceeds from this gaming convention go to support the The Learning Center and its educational mission.

The Learning Center deals with many students that are considered "at risk". The programs mission is to provide an educational environment that helps provide opportunities for these students to refocus their attitudes and academics. This is achieved by fostering positive teacher-student relationships and helping students realize their own potential.

That's all I'm asking from you for today. Nothing too strenuous. Just save the date. Go to your google calendar or whatever you use, mark the days. Talk to the boss and/or the SO or whomever you need to.

We're still planning out scenario offerings, so if you have a request - now's the time. Its a small con, but we'll make ya feel welcome.

Sovereign Court 3/5

We're ready for ya now. Head over to www.magcon.org to register for MAG CON 5, the first MAG CON to offer Pathfinder Society gaming. You'll find a link on the schedule page to the Houston PFS warhorn page (as if you don't already have the URL memorized and bookmarked).

Things I want to point out here:
1) GM a scenario, get in free. Yes, just one slot.
2) Even then, admission is relatively cheap - and its a school fundraiser. Didja notice the group discounts?
3) Pretty decent scenario list. Newbie friendly, and stuff we haven't seen a lot of lately. Don't worry, there's new stuff too - including the season 4 exclusive "Day of the Demon".

So go sign up and give The Learning Center your money. Don't forget to choose your scenarios on the warhorn site, linked from the schedule.

Sovereign Court 3/5

All tables now have GMs... until we need to create more tables (a good problem to have).

www.magcon.org - admission is cheap, parking is free, its a school fundraiser, and group discounts are available.

Make sure you click the warhorn link to secure your place at the scenario(s) you want.

The Exchange

GM for a 1.0 game @ MAGCON - also want to play a PF module :: Am a PF Soc. member (5708) but have no PF group near my home in Hearne, Texas.
Trying to get on Warhorn, but having problems since ISP change.

Anyway, best wishes to all and hope to see you at MAGCON.

Sovereign Court 3/5

www.magcon.org - trying to fix that link.

Once you've registered for the con, choose your scenarios at http://www.warhorn.net/houston-pfs. Trying to make sure we have enough tables to meet demand. First time running PFS at this con, so things are a bit hazy.

Silver Crusade 2/5 RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

I'll be there on Saturday only, planning to play in all three slots!

Sovereign Court 3/5

Welp, we already have one table full - and many more will definitely make. Not bad for a con that's having its first foray into PFS.

Wanted to point out that if you see a table you want to play, go ahead and sign up for it anyway and waitlist. We'll make sure to add another table for you - but we can't prepare for you if we don't know you're coming.

www.warhorn.net/houston-pfs to select your scenarios.

Hope to see lots of you there.

Sovereign Court 3/5

I guess I should mention which scenarios are going to be available for MAG CON, huh?

Sovereign Court 3/5

Talked to Dave last night, who's running MAG CON. He's adding more tables for us.

Moral of the story: if tables look full, sign up anyway. We're adding more. We'll get more GMs, too - and this area has FANTASTIC GMs.

But we can't prepare for you if we don't know you're coming.

http://www.magcon.org to register for the convention, sign up for PFS scenarios at http://www.warhorn.net/houston-pfs.

Sovereign Court 3/5

t-minus 1 month til MAG CON!

we can't prepare for you if we don't know you're coming.

http://www.magcon.org to register for the convention, sign up for PFS scenarios at http://www.warhorn.net/houston-pfs.

Sovereign Court 3/5

Two weeks til MAG CON! (less, actually)

Tables are filling up, and I'm a lil' concerned about being able to accommodate surprises. So please, if you anticipate playing Pathfinder Society, please sign up at http://www.warhorn.net/houston-pfs.

Don't worry about waitlisting - we'll getcha taken care of. But we can't prepare for you if we don't know you're coming.

Sovereign Court 3/5

What I said before about tables filling up way more than I expected...

Yeah, I would mind an extra GM or two.

That shouldn't stop anyone from signing up to play, but I'm adding to the call for players with a call for GMs as well. Better yet, do both! GMing one slot gets you free con admission.

http://www.magcon.org to register for the convention, sign up to play or GM PFS scenarios at http://www.warhorn.net/houston-pfs.

Sovereign Court 3/5

T-Minus One Week Til MAG CON!

If you haven't signed up for your Pathfinder Society scenarios, do so NOW at http://www.warhorn.net/houston-pfs. Don't worry about waitlisting, that's what preregistration is for - so we know what to prepare for.

If you haven't volunteered to GM yet, please do that too. Maybe we won't need you - but we could use a couple of prepped GM's on standby just in case. Go ahead and pick your slot on Warhorn.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Having mobile food, drink, and trash carts visiting each table may have been the single greatest amenity I have ever experienced at a Con. This was a wonderful event and I will be looking forward to it next year.

-Jessie, you did a wonderful job keeping us entertained and on track on notoriously difficult to GM adventures, Murder on the Silken Caravan and Murder on the Throaty Mermaid. Someone at Paizo must love Agatha Christie!

-Matt, The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch (aka the pantless wonder) was quite a fun experience! My wife was sorry she was unable to attend as we both had a blast at your table for Race for the Runcecarved Key at Owlcon. Sorry for turning every encounter into combat…Please give Chris and Jamie my regards and tell them to contact me on the boards.

-Jacob, thank you very much for picking up a third table on The Citadel of Flame on such short notice. You were able to keep the scenario together while having to deal with the first and last humanoid encounters rolling 1s VS Michael’s charm person, no easy feat.

-Kelly, once again a spectacular job storytelling and DMing! Day of the Demon was a blast and I am looking forward to season 5 as a result.

I also wanted to chime in and say that MagCon was an excellent experience for me (though I was sadly only available for Saturday). The food carts were a great idea, and even though the venue is fairly far-out for me, I'll definitely come back next year!

Sovereign Court 3/5

So glad to hear it, guys.

It should be pointed out that the con was put together by Dave, the Assistant Principal at the learning center and the mobile vendors were teachers at the learning center... with some student council help as well.

Thanks for the support, and please tell every gamer you know.

Sovereign Court 3/5

...and we're back!

MAG CON 6 is ... three months away. Wait, three? (Counting) Yeah, three. Wow.

If you're like me, you're probably still tired from Space City and don't want to be thinking about another con three months away yet. I'm trying to limit my promotion as much as possible until after Owl Con, but I do need a sense of GMs.

If you didn't make last year's MAG CON, you missed something special. MAG CON is our local convention - held at the New Caney ISD Annex Building. It is the sole fundraiser for The Learning Center, which deals with many students that are considered "at risk". The programs mission is to provide an educational environment that helps provide opportunities for these students to refocus their attitudes and academics. This is achieved by fostering positive teacher-student relationships and helping students realize their own potential.

Last year's convention raised $2800 - $700 of which went to rebuild schools in West, Texas following their disaster. Last year, Pathfinder Society was the dominant gaming activity at the convention with 45 players participating in 22 sessions. Naturally, we're hoping to surpass both attendance and fundraising this year.

That's all well and good for the school - but this is a great con for gamers. $20 gets you in for the weekend (and there's lots of group discounts available), and parking is free. We also have "the single greatest amenity at a convention, ever" - the mobile concession cart. That's right, Om noms delivered to your table. You'll still have to get up to go potty, though.

We'll get to the offerings for PFS in a second, but there's more gaming if nothing but PFS is too much for you - they'll have Stellar Horizons RPG, an auction, a dealer's room, and a ridiculously large board game library. Last year's con had X-Wing, Warmahordes, Malifaux, Savage Worlds, old-school D&D, Zombicide, Khet, and Steve Jackson Games - we expect that and more this year, including an appearance from the 501st, Arkham Horror, Takenoko, Civilization, Stellar Horizons, Small World, and a Ticket to Ride tourney.

Its by far the smallest of the Houston-area cons, but its a great time and a great value.

To sweeten the pot, GM *at least one* session and your admission is free. Our Pathfinder Society options are going to be pretty cool this year - including the season two special "Year of the Shadow Lodge" and the appropriate scenarios leading up to and following it. If you've played those already, great - GM it for us and get in free. We'll have scenarios at all levels of play - slightly weighted towards the lower-level tables. That includes "The Confirmation" - the new introduction scenario. We'll have FOUR brand-new scenarios. You're not going to be bored.

And yes, I'm still looking for GMs.

So, join us. Raise money for some kids and have a good time in the process. And hey, for the majority of y'all, we're a shorter drive than Moody Gardens.

Register for the convention itself at: http://www.magcon.org/ - you'll still need to register here, even if you volunteer to GM - so we know to put you on the list.

Pathfinder Society scenario sign-up is at: https://warhorn.net/events/mag-con-6

Sovereign Court 3/5

This is shaping up nicely. The con has added Arkham Horror, the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, Catan, the Firefly board game, Civilization, OD&D, Iron Kingdoms, Nuclear War, Small World, and Call of Cthulhu since last I posted here.

Me, I'm still looking for GMs. Remember, GM *one* session, and your admission is free.

Did you pay way too much for parking at OwlCon?

I feel I should point out that parking at MAG CON is free. Save yourself some money for the auction and concessions. Yay!

Mag CON!

Sovereign Court 3/5

I'm hearing MAG CON PFS GMs are already getting their scenarios in their paizo.com accounts. If you're GMing, and didn't get yours, please let me know.

Sovereign Court 3/5

If were unable to join us last year for Pathfinder Society at MAG CON last year, you really missed out on something special. Make sure you're there this year for what I think is the best bang-for-buck gaming convention around. Clear your calendar April 12th & 13th and come play with us.

Gaming sign ups are at: https://warhorn.net/events/mag-con-6/ - HURRY! Tables are filling up!

To pre-register for the cheaper admission, go to http://www.magcon.org/

Just like last year, the convention is at the New Caney ISD Annex Building (reminder, it is the sole fundraiser for The Learning Center), located at 21569 U.S. 59, New Caney, Texas 77357
(Northeast Houston Area)

We'll have scenarios at all levels of play. That includes "The Confirmation" - the new introduction scenario. If you haven't yet played "Year of the Shadow Lodge", we'll be running that special on Sunday morning (and if you have, well, the con has plenty of other gaming to offer). We'll have FOUR brand-new scenarios. You're not going to be bored. Plus, this year, we have prize support in addition to boons!

Remember folks, we have "the best amenity at any gaming convention, ever" - the mobile food cart. Concessions brought to your table as we game.

Hope to see you there!

AW SNAP, YO! WE'RE BACK!

The Pathfinder Society schedule for MAG CON 7 is now finalized! I know, I know, we haven’t even had OwlCon yet. But with the new Pathfinder Society con sanctioning stuff, I need to get my list of GMs in by the end of this month. By all means, yes – go sign up for OwlCon too, if you haven’t yet.

If you haven’t yet made a MAG CON, you’ve been missing out on what I feel is the best bang-for-buck gaming con. MAG CON will be held on April 11th and 12, again at the New Caney ISD Annex Building. It is the sole fundraiser for The Learning Center, which deals with many students that are considered “at risk”. The programs mission is to provide an educational environment that helps provide opportunities for these students to refocus their attitudes and academics. This is achieved by fostering positive teacher-student relationships and helping students realize their own potential.

Its by far the smallest of the Houston-area cons, but its a great time and a great value for a good cause. Last year’s convention raised $4800, and Pathfinder Society had 44 players participating in 21 sessions. Naturally, we’re hoping to surpass both attendance and fundraising this year.

That’s all well and good for the school – but this is a great con for gamers. $20 gets you in for the weekend (and there’s lots of group discounts available), and parking is free. We also have “the single greatest amenity at a convention, ever” – the mobile concession cart. That’s right, Om noms delivered to your table. You’ll still have to get up to go potty, though.

We’ll get to the offerings for PFS in a second, but there’s more gaming if nothing but PFS is too much for you – if last year is any indication, we should be able to expect Stellar Horizons RPG, X-Wing, Warmahordes, Malifaux, Savage Worlds, old and new D&D, Zombicide, Khet, Ticket to Ride, Steve Jackson Games, an auction, a dealer’s room, and a ridiculously large board game library. We expect that and more this year.

To sweeten the pot, GM *at least one* scenario (or three quests) and your admission is free. Our Pathfinder Society options are going to be pretty cool this year for both noobs and veteran players. If you’re playing The Emerald Spire Superdungeon at OwlCon (or elsewhere), we’re picking up where they left off and offering levels 5-9. Of course, you can jump in and out as you please. We’ll be offering the “Scions of the Sky Key” trilogy that ties in with the current metaplot, the two newest season six scenarios, and the best scenarios from season five for those of us that missed them the first time they came around. For noobs, we have all of the Silverhex Chronicles – the one-hour introductory quests – as well as this year’s intro scenario “The Wounded Wisp”. If you’ve played those already, great – GM it for us and get in free. We’ll have scenarios at all levels of play. You’re not going to be bored.

Like every other convention organizer, I’m looking for GMs, and I have to have my GMs squared away soon. We have need for GMs at the following slots:

Saturday, 10am – Pathfinder Society Introduction 6-10: The Wounded Wisp (levels 1-2)
Saturday, 3pm – Pathfinder Society Quests: The Silverhex Chronicles – Crash / Webs / Silverhex (level 1)
Saturday, 3pm – Pathfinder Society 6-15 (levels 1-5)
Saturday, 3pm – Pathfinder Society 6-17 (levels 5-9)
Saturday, 8pm – Pathfinder Society 6-17 (levels 5-9)

So, join us. Raise money for some kids and have a good time in the process.

Pathfinder Society scenario sign-up is at: https://warhorn.net/events/mag-con If you want to register without GMing (a paid registration), its at http://www.magcon.org/registration.html Don’t forget to sign up to both GM and play.
