Space: the near future.

So there is this Kickstarter by the National Space Society to create a video on realistic near term reasons why space exploration and development is important to society, and what it will look like.

I might support this at the minimal level, ten bucks for a decent video isn't a bad price. The organization itself has a bit of pedigree to it, so it's probably an honest deal. It looks like it should achieve it's goal of making the film, but honestly I really doubt that the film itself will accomplish anything beyond making it's backers feel good about themselves.

Private investors aren't going to do anything that doesn't show a profit in relatively quick terms, and the Tea Partiers who have both Democrats and Republicans running scared, aren't going to be keen on any government initiative in this area.

School films should be about education, not policy advocacy. This film iss too short, and too focused on advocacy, to be a good educational tool.
