Journal Entry 1

Off to explore the "Green Span" in the company of five would-be heroes...

  • Gavader - an elven paladin, you can always tell by the shine of their armor and the holier than thou vibe they give off. Although I'm not sure what deity he answers to. He wears a holy symbol of a sword, I'll have to ask him about it sometime.

  • GoblinSlayer - a human warrior. Not sure if he's actually earned his name, but he seems capable enough.

  • D-Ork -a half-orc. Some sort of alchemist if the odd smells and foul looking concoctions are any indication.

  • Nameless - she hasn't given a name, doesn't speak much common, or very well for that matter. She's an elf, some kind of wizard I guess since she's not wearing armor and theres a large book shaped object in her backpack.

Day One
We arrived at the only trading post for hundreds of miles. Olag's is the name of the place and it's owner. It's run by himself and his wife, although I missed her name. Apparently there's some local group of bandits hassling them.
We set up an ambush for their next visit and killed two and captured the other two. Would have been simpler to kill them as well but they surrendered so now they're someone else's problem. I expect they'll be carted off for the nearest magistrate to hang, if Olag doesn't just slit their throats when they're sleeping. Probably be simpler.

We waited till they came in for their monthly tribute. GoblinSlayer hid behind the gate, while D-Ork and I took the higher ground, him on top the cabin and me on the parapet to the right of the gates, while Gavader and Nameless took cover in the stables. I took out the gangs leader with two arrows while Slayer closed the gates and Gav and Nameless took them from the side and D-Ork threw acid from above.

Day Two
We explored an area to the east of Olag's and discovered a ramshackle hut. A crazy old man named Boken lives there. He's a brewer of potions apparently. Said he'd pay well for enough "fangberries" for seven potions, said they were located fifty five miles south though. He also said if we meet his younger brother who lives in a hollow tree somewhere south of here that we should feel free to kill him. Might reward us for it, apparently the bastard bit off Boken's pinky some time ago before running off.

Day Three
After returning to Olag's we explored to the west. Came across a local hunter named Bob, a fur trader. Said he hadn't seen any bandits lately, but had heard that one of the other hunters, a cantankerous bugger apparently had joined them. I can't remember his name though, evidently he's a very unpleasant fellow though.
Late that same night we were attacked by some kind of cat/dog creature. Knocked Gav out almost before the rest of us even awoke and gave me qute a gash as well before I could put it down.
After reviving Gav with one of his potions, he was grateful enough to give me one. For the hep maybe? I wouldn't normally waste such healing if I can tough it out, but if it's free I guess why not?

Day 4-7
Two new self-professed adventurers joined us at Oleg's. And I can't find any sign of GoblinSlayer either. Anyway, one is some sort of fire druid, a half-elf named Desto. The other is someone named BSF, a human who weilds a polearm he calls a "lucerne hammer".

After provisioning up, we left Oleg's and headed southwest to another area of forest (b4). The new guy, BSF, apparently lived up to his name. While on his watch, he must have seen something and instead of waking someone, he wandered off by himself to investigate. The rest of us woke up from the sounds of combat. Making our way towards the noise we arrived in time to see some sort of lightning spitting spirit kill him. We attempted to slay the beast but our attacks proved ineffectual and it just wandered off. It was too late for BSF though, he had bled out already.

This area of forest seems to be inhabited by some annoying fey. They steal stuff from one person and put it in the equipment of another person. D-Ork said he saw one while he was on watch one night, called it a "bogart". Still don't understand why he didn't kill the damn thing while he had the opportunity.

The next day I spotted some unusual looking nests about 15 meters up in the trees. Nameless, if I understood her right, she speaks very garbled common, said they belonged to the same fey who had been annoying us. And that if we bribed it with shiny stuff maybe it would leave us alone. That didn't seem like the right way to take care of a bully to me, I'd rather have hunted them down and killed them, guaranteed problem solver.
Nameless and Gavader had other ideas though, they scrounged together about 30 gold between the two of them and Gav shucked his armor and climbed up to deposit it in one of the nests. He didn't do to bad at the climbing either, although he did fall the last 3 meters on the way down.
I don't think the offering did any good though, cause some sort of little winged dragon thing appeared briefly and said something to the effect of "that paltry bits, as if". I would have shot the damn thing but it disappeared before I could ready myself.
Stupid fairies!

Day 8-10
Disaster!

We set out from Oleg's to explore farther west of the last area(b3). We came across the trail of some sort of large biped.

D-Ork said he recognized the tracks as something called a "troll" and that there were four of them. He said they were big green and roughly twice as tough as an orc.
The group wasn't completely decided what to do, but I figured I didn't care if we tracked them down, a little bit of math and 8 orcs worth of bad guys didn't seem like a bad encounter.

We tracked them for a couple hours before we spotted them 40 meters ahead of us. I shot at them while they were still surprised and Desto threw fire at them. Nameless covered herself in glowy armor and Gavader shot his heavy crossbow at them, D-Ork followed suit by throwing a flask of something, fire I think.

Man, they crossed that open ground quick running full bore at us. Gavader equipped his shield and drew his sword only to be literally torn limb from limb within moments. Nameless unleashed some kind of screaming spell at one before it dropped her bleeding to the ground. I tumbled away and shot another, it seemed like a small wound to it.

Desto kept tossing little fireballs at them and slowly stepping back. D-Ork (asmodeus take him) tossed some more flasks at them before falling bleeding from mortal wounds.

Three down, two to go, I decided it was high time to make a hasty retreat. I was already at the edge of their reach so I beat feet out of there. Looking back as I was running away I saw Desto fall soon after while the rest of the trolls fell upon our three horses. Probably why I was able to get away from them.

Curse that damn alchemist for so wildly misjudging the danger of these "trolls". I think I'll avoid mentioning this when I start looking for new party members.

Day 11-18
I made it back to Oleg's safely after the disastrous Troll hunt. It didn't take very long to pick up another couple companions for my mapping exploits. A holy, or more likely unholy warrior who worships Asmodeus. I don't recall his name for some reason. If he survives for very long I guess I'll have to ask him. That and get him to sign the charter once he proves himself capable enough. The other fellow is a sturdy looking fighter called Meat Shield #2. Something tells me that may be a bad sign.

On another note, Oleg's had some new non-adventurer arrivals to the trading post. A man named Kestin Garess, has apparently been assigned to, I guess, garrison here as protection for the outpost. Apparently the Swordlords didn't believe I was enough. He has a handful of soldiers with him and is camped in tents outside Oleg's palisade.
The other newcomer appears to be a priest of Erastil. He is looking for the location of a lost temple of his god that is supposed to be near here. He wasn't willing to come along and help look for it though so I'm not sure he's of much use.

After resupplying and securing some new horses, we made our way back to the west where I'd left off mapping. The first day we didn't find much of interest, other than coming across the body of a dead logger. He appeared to have been killed by his own log deadfall trap in some sort of accident.
The following day, moving south we came across a sulphorous pond and were attacked by some really large frogs who inhabited it. Meat Shield #2 perished in the encounter and we were soon bolstered in our ranks by a relative of his, Meat Shield #3.

Marking the frog pond on my map, we travelled east and coincidentally found the lost temple that cleric was looking for. I'm sure he'll be happy to hear the news. We did have to clear it of its previous inhabitant though. A huge ravening grizzly bear which I managed to kill mostly by myself, with a little help from Meat Shield #3. When it died, it turned into an old man, who appeared to be at peace with his death, and swiftly deteriorated into bones and then dust. The Anti-Paladin was pretty useless in that fight and just complained the whole time about how the holy temple area made him feel sick and weak. On the plus side the decorative pool there seems to have healing propertys and may prove useful later as a place to stop and rest.

Continuing east from the temple on the following day we discovered a wagon of goods seemingly bereft of an owner. As I was looking around for the wayward merchant, Meat Shield #3 decided to rummage inside it and discovered to his dismay a bear trap which caught his good arm and immobilized him just as some hidden bandits ambushed us. By the time that fight was over, the Anti-Paladin and I had both sustained severe injuries while Meat Shield #3 met his maker as a combination of bear trap, poison, and several arrows did him in.
We managed to make the leader of the little band run away after knocking her unconcious 3 times only to have her minions heal her back awake again. After she left we still had a bit of a fight on our hands but managed to kill her 8 bandit followers. Including one particularly vexing archer who required me to prove who was the better at the art of the bow.

Afterwards we gathered up all their loot, along with their ears and the wagon to haul off to sell back at Oleg's. Overall a tough week but still rewarding. I have the feeling we'll find Meat Shield #4 waiting for us upon our return to the outpost. Soon I think we may be able to use all the bodies for cover from our enemies.
