Thank you all for the help. I am in the Tacoma, WA area. It appears that the only 'local' games are an hour north near Seattle. Not out of bounds for a weekend trip.
I did email the Venture-Captain for the local area to see why not/if there are any games perhaps closer to me. Also, the Emerald City Comicon is in March and would be another great option to play.
It sounds like I need to pick up a copy of the Field Guide as well.

As a follow-up question, do I (and a friend or two) just show up at the day and time for an event? I'm guessing that contacting the person running the event ahead of time is a good idea.
More than likely they have a facebook page/webpage with sign-up information .. you said earlier that you contacted the VC for the area, hopefully he'll respond soon, if not see if you can find the VLs for the area (kyle elliott is one if I remember correctly) and they should be able to help you get signed up.
All else failing,, show up at the time/place of the event and work with the coordinator to get yourselves into a game ... make sure you get the sign-up information for the next one
have fun :)

For a local event, yes, it's a very good idea to contact the organizer and ask about whether they have any sort of pre-registration / sign-up system for their games (many do). While most organizers will be glad to do all that they can to get you involved in PFS, and get you a seat at a game, it's a great idea to give them forewarning that you're coming.

You lucky bum! You're only an hour from PaizoCon, Paizo's own Pathfinder convention.
If at all possible, go to PaizoCon. I'll never be able to make it myself. I envy you.

I coordinate the Friday and Saturday evening games at Games & Gizmos in Redmond. If you want to make the trip up and veer east, we'd be happy to have you join us. (And we have a crew that comes up from Olympia, so you wouldn't be the longest driving player, either!)
The Northwest Pathfinder Society has a website for the entire region at nwpfs.org. We have forum boards for each area; the Eastside board is where you'll find my location discussed. We do signups during the week in advance, but we also have a lot of walk-ins and rarely run out of room for everyone.

Yes you do. I hope to see you at GenCon again this year. You have always been a good spokesman for Pathfinder. :)Awesome! I'll be there. Hopefully we'll get a chance to game together. It would be nice to be on the same team for once.

That is true.
Of course, we make spectacular enemies. ;)
ps - I'm excited for your Browns. The new brain trust should be a good one.
