dealing with death in a module

Sovereign Court 1/5

Hello all,
What are the procedures for dealing with dead players in a module? I am running Carrion Hill and I am guessing there will be casualties. If they do not have the PP to return or other issues, would you let them return as a pregen and earn either less gold or no prestige awards at the end?
...or just out of the mod all together?
Suggestions?

Dead players? You should probably call 911.

Dead characters, on the other hand, is variable. Technically, if they die and can't be brought back then they're done.

However, especially for new players, I'm willing to be a bit more lenient. If they're in the early part of the module and it makes sense for someone to be able to join the party, then I'd likely allow them to come back in with a pre-gen if they so desired. If it's towards the end, then it probably isn't worth it as they won't qualify to get much, if any, of the rewards. Also, story has to factor into it -- the party is unlikely to have someone wander up and join them deep in a crypt full of undead, for example.

Also, stop the game for a few minutes (not too long, mind) to allow the player to look through his paperwork for mitigating circumstances like a favour he can call in to turn that failed save into a success.
Meanwhile, other players can do the same if they wish, and you can check your math to make sure that hit really WAS a hit. Mistakes happen, and both as a player and DM I've forgotten to factor in a bonus/penalty that turned out to be the difference between life and death for the PC.
