tarrasque good puppy

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

well I posted about a powerful player and talked it out so that was taken care of they got to level 20 and I put them up against the final boss. I was worried they would have trouble but the gnome looked around on his own and found the tarrasque by himself it attacked and almost killed him so he healed himself and talked to it using diplomacy after three turns of talking to it and rolling high enough to beat the dc the little gnome druid almost died twice but managed to make the dc and he made the thing all the way up to helpful. so he now has a tarrasque friend. just want to see what you all think personally I'm impressed he looked at it and said "im going to talk to it."

What language did the gnome use?

It sounds like it was fun. But I'm pretty sure if you followed the rules strictly this wouldn't be possible. But doing the impossible is what the game is all about. :)

Speaking as the player of said Gnome... I used Aklo, my gnome had a ton of languages.

I used the straight dcs from the book it is possible. it was just a surprise he stayed alive. and thank you it was a blast

I'm glad that the Bard tried an alternative means of doing things, and that you let him.

Adamantine: You're correct. You can't use diplomacy on the Tarrasque, it's INT 3.

what about handle animal?

I think the druid was rolling handle animal...unless I heard wrong during the game. Handle animal as diplomacy via wild empathy.

sorry I should have said handle animal since thats what he was using my bad. and it can understand languages it just cant speak

Even if you could use diplomacy on the Tarrasque, I'm pretty sure you can't just stack diplomacy rolls until you pwn the target.

Ah yes...

Still, was definitely out of the box thinking.

Same thing, but in reverse. Handle Animal only works on animals. You can also use it on magical beasts, but only if their intelligence is 1 or 2.

It's cool, man. No one is arguing with you, it's cool and it's your game so you can allow whatever you want. It doesn't work by RAW, who gives a crap?

Feylon: The bit on diplomacy is an "or". you can't use it on things that don't understand a language OR on things with int 3 or less.

thank you glad you liked it.

~shrugs~ Who cares, it was freaking AWESOME...Tarrasque came up, with a little gnome basically saying "Hi guys, how do you like my ride." Not to mention the magically enchanted castle that expanded to handle the Tarrasque's size when normally it was sized to handle medium folks.

Wait so 3 intelligence is the nice sweet spot where you are neither animal or intelligent and cannot be swayed by other people?

Correct. You can't be an animal if your intelligence is 3 or more, you must be a magical beast. Handle Animal can be used on magical beasts, but only if they are Int 1 or 2. Diplomacy can't be used on anything with Int 3 or less.

Basically, you're too smart to be Handled and too dumb to understand Diplomacy.

I believe that a Tarrasque is capable of understanding language though...

Doesn't matter, it's an "OR"

I suppose...either way, it was still a great way to end a game.

Yup, sounded like a blast. The only reason I'm posting these is not to say "OMG YOU DID IT WRONG!@%!@%@! REDO YOUR LAST SESSION!". It's merely to provide the posting GM with the information of "this is why it doesn't technically work, and is information you might want to take into account for the future."

I only posted because the OP said: "just want to see what you all think".

Well, that's what I think.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Mhm, I actually have to say that this is the most polite thread I've read so far XD

if you really wanted to make a challenge you should give a giant levels and cavalier and have it ride the tarrasque

sorry to jack your thread

Still need to see that build...

Influence Attitude: Using Diplomacy to influence a creature’s attitude takes 1 minute of continuous interaction.

This is not happening in the middle of combat.

The non-rules lawyer in me says-->"That was interesting."

its a spawn of freaking Rovagug! no i say no the Gnome says "just calm down its ok no one wants to hurt you" then the tarrasque eats him!
