So I ran the scenario yesterday and one thing popped up that's confusing me to no ends. In the scenario after each encounter there's a listing of the amount of gold the PC's get. When you tally that up it adds nicely to Max Gold amount, but only if they didn't find the pouch containing 30 gp on the kobold in area 11 and the pouch with mixed coins (worth 100gp) in area 5. If they find that pouch they go over the max gold limit to a total of 549 gp.
Additionally there are gems and other valuables (I'm thinking the opal Maurit Zergo carries and the gold crown on the skeleton in area 5, both of which add up to 500gp) that if the PC's find them and then sell for half price increases the Max Gold value in the scenario to an additional 250 gp making it seem to me that the total treasure value is actually 380gp more (30 for kobold gold pouch, 100 for skeleton pouch and 250 for selling value of the two valuables).
I'm very confused by this. Should I have let the players get the additional gold (and/or valuables which they could've then sold) or? How is additional treasure/valuables/gold handled?
Signed,
One confused newbie GM.

Max gold is meant to represent what each player's share of the loot would be. Remember that just because something is worth 100gp, it doesn't mean the players were able to sell it for that amount, or even half!
Usually, the gold values listed during the scenario are there for players who are running the scenarios outside of PFS, at a home game, and therefore don't use the chronicle sheets.

No, they cannot have more than the max gold listed on a chronicle sheet. (and day job)

That gold amount is for PFS GMs, but more for adjudicating either total gold earned, when they don't complete the scenario, and might not have capped the gold, or, in some scenarios, where they have a chace to go shopping between encounters, and might need the gold to pick something up in the middle of the scenario.
In the first case, you lower the max gold by the amount missed.
In the second case, they need to mark the gold spent in the appropriate box on the chronicle.

The treasure they get is already divided and calculated in what they get after every encounter. Supposedly if you were to calculate the sell value of all the treasure they get then divide by 4 or 6 you get the amount it says each player gets. That's all you have to worry about, no calculations needed.
The only time you really have to even do anything with those numbers is if they miss some hidden treasure or skip an encounter. Then you need to subtract that amount from the max gold.
