Pathfinder Beginner Box as E6-type Pathfinder variant?

Beginner Box

Would the Pathfinder Beginner Box work well as an E6-type Pathfinder variant? I ask, as I've ordered the World of Avlis setting from Lulu and am not 100% certain that I want to invest in the larger Pathfinder game line. I thought that D&D 3x was waaaaaaaay too rules-heavy and Pathfinder complete doesn't really seem to have improved upon D&D 3x in that regard. That said, the Beginner Box looks like it could function as a kind of "Pathfinder Light" - especially if coupled with the principles in E6 (well, E5, given the box's range of levels). How 'bout it? Will it work like that?

Sounds like you're familiar with both Pathfinder and E6. I would say yes, but be aware that the options for PCs are more limited (the tradeoff for more ease-of-use): there are 4 classes, 3 races, and fewer feats and spells than you would find in full Pathfinder Levels 1-5.

You might feel limited by the 4 classes in fleshing out your campaign world. EdOWar has made "Beginner Box" versions of the 11 core classes and 9 base classes and posted them on this thread. Be mindful however that, if you include spontaneous casters, you may have a balance issue because spontaneous casters don't acquire third-level spells by Level 5.

Good luck!

Given that I am not big on E6, but have nothing against it, I do think the Beginner Box may fit the bill. You could flesh it out with the rest of the classes from this thread. you may want to go ahead and add level 6 for your needs.

What's E6? aside from a variant of the Klingon Escort class from the SFU?

Since advancement past level 6 in E6 is done using feats, I suspect you would want to import some more feats from somewhere (from Pathfinder or 3.5 D&D, presumably).

it's a low-power style of play where 6th level is the cap and you only gain feats afterwards. infact my next campaign will be e6

Absolutely.

I brought my players to Pathfinder using the Beginners Box and they said that was good for them with no additional Core+ so I am in a way running an E5/6 campaign already, and other than less 'stuff' I don't see the difference.

I plan to expand EdoWars template even more than I already have to make it go to sixth level with far reaching feats allowing limited 4th level spells. Like a total a 6 overall. All weapons are capped at a max of +4 in any combination, and those are VERY rare.

BUT(I love starting statements with BUT, it makes grammar ppl twitch)... The BB is a great stand alone product. You do not need to change anything to have a wondrous time, as many threads in this area have shown.

Don't forget there is a fifth class with the Barbarian download as well.

Thanks for all of the replies and the great info!

Where are the rules for this?
