Pathfinder Online

Scarab Sages

So, I just saw a video done by Extra Credits about Transgaming and realized something.

What if events and experiences people had in Pathfinder Society had an impact on people's experience in Pathfinder Online, and vice-versa?

Now, don't get me wrong, coordinating something like this between two separate (if associated) companies could be difficult, but it'd definitely be a great way to get MMO players excited about PFS, and PFS players excited about trying Pathfinder Online.

Basically, you could tie your PFS ID# to your Pathfinder Online account, and completing various modules and adventures would be credited towards your account, granting you access to extra benefits based on what happens in PFS, such as access to items with unique appearances, a resource boon, or maybe even (as an extreme example), access to a special ability associated with your PFS character.

Or on the other hand, playing Pathfinder Online could grant you access to special benefits in Pathfinder Society, such as very small increases in fame, access to limited, novelty gear, or maybe even one-per-session abilities associated with your Pathfinder Online character's abilities.

I know it'd be tough to balance and work out, but what do you think about the possibility?

Shadow Lodge

I think that in principle it's a good idea, but on the other hand I've never seen or heard of Pathfinder Society games happening anywhere over here other than at the UK version of Paizocon.

The upshot of this is that it's basically a benefit that other people in PFO get, but I'll never see. You can doubtless imagine that this doesn't excite me much.

Before anyone makes the obvious suggestion, there are already enough non-PFS games going on that starting one on my schedule is pretty unlikely.

Scarab Sages

Well, here's the thing:

If you're interested in Pathfinder Online, then you're going to try it one way or another. The benefits gained in this manner shouldn't be game-breaking in any way, and should provide only very minor benefits or cosmetic applications.

Another thing we could link: Factions

People have been asking about factions in Pathfinder Online for a while now. What if we simply tied them to the factions in Pathfinder Society? That way, not only would you have contribution and change in the actual game from players, but from PFS characters as well, as completing faction quests could grant boons to the associated factions in Pathfinder Online.

Grand Lodge

Trans-Gaming works because the impact is immediate. The lag time between things going on in PFS which is aggregate, would pretty much dilute the impact on PF Online.

That and the lack of the personal connection which is the exciting element about TransGaming. So yes I see it as exciting but I don't see the applicablity here.

Later thought:

One way it could work.... Modules that give you boons that you could redeem on Pathfinder Online.

Goblin Squad Member

One of the issues here is the DM. In a computer game, the DM is impartial and indifferent. In PnP play, a system like this is so incredibly open to abuse and fraud. Sure, some players will use it fairly, but what's to stop a group of dishonest people from giving each other credit for completions they haven't actually done?
