Is there a good system-agnostic fantasy setting out there?

I have a fantasy RPG that I will be publishing online relatively soon but I have no campaign setting to accompany it as of yet. I was kind of wondering if there was anything out there like this that I could use (or more likely recommend)?

Nothing comes to mind. Most settings are supplements to existing systems or are presented with the core rules. It is often the only reason I buy supplemental material for a system I never plan to run - to get to the fluff.

If it's out there, chances are it's someone's property. You can't even refer to that system without approval. Before the TSR purchase WOTC put out a setting called Primal Order. and the back appendix included rules to use it with popular systems such as GURPS, AD&D, and RIFTS. All of the above companies asked them in varying degrees of politeness not to do it again, with Eric Siembada siccing his lawyers on them.

So there really isn't something you can just go out and take.

Talk to Twin Agate Dragons, he created a very expansive fantasy setting for use with D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder. He posts fairly often here on the Paizo boards and on his Sarunia blog.

I've run campaigns using many different systems in the Duchy of Kernan.

Heck, you could even use Golarion with GURPS or 4th Edition D&D if you wanted. There's pratically nothing in the descriptive material that can't be mated to another system.

Thanks for the input guys. Sorry, I kind of lost track of this thread. After a few days it looked like it was going to sink into obscurity. I'm only four months late so ... um ... yeah.

But yeah, thanks again. I'll check out the links. I'm not really interested in using anything copyrighted for obvious reasons and so far, I'm just stating on the site that you have to plug in your own campaign world of preference. If I find something that fits with the rules well, I just plan on linking to it or referring to the book as a suggestion.

Harn/Harnworld is mostly system free
Harnmaster is the rules set
but Harn is fairly pricy

Books for such a setting that I would recommend would be Saga of Pliocene Exile by Julian May or any of the Gor series. The D&D Dark sun setting could be considered Agnostic. As could any of the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Star wars minus the tech could be considered a Non theistic Fantasy.
