Liberty's Edge

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Not only is this just one hell of a great movie, it's a walk back in time for we grognards! It's like finding a lost Speilberg film from the 80s. Camera angles, close ups, pans, sound design, even lens flares--vintage awesome!

Very highly recommended.

The Exchange

I'll admit it. Super 8 was Awesome. It was on my two best superbowl ads list (the other being Aliens vs Cowboys). Captain America and THOR were DVD fodder by comparison.

They are however going up against the likes of Tucker and Dale vs Evil which I consider the funniest film to come out of North America in 2011.

Silver Crusade

I have yet to see this film. It sounds pretty cool. I read one review that Abrams pretty much ripped off Spielberg, but that was okay since Spielberg was a producer on the film. Considering how cool, IMO, the new Star Trek was back in 2009. I think Abrams fills the director's chair well enough.

There is such a fine line between "rip-off" and "homage" but I'm pretty sure that JJ Abrams would be the first person to tell you that he crafted Super 8 to look and feel like a Spielberg movie. I had all sorts of feelings and questions about it when I came out of the movie theater smiling this summer. But maybe my biggest question was,

When was the last time that Spielberg himself made a movie this cool?

This is an amazingly good review of the movie. Enjoy.

I agree this is a good movie with an old school feel to it.
