Numerous sources are reporting that Anne McCaffery has died. Link to one is HERE. She was 85.

I didn't read much by her after I started paying attention to nitpicky orbital mechanics, but I still have my autographed copy of Cooking out of This World, and a high point of my young fannish career was playing in a con production of "The Smallest Dragonboy" when she was GoH. (I was the villain; it was great fun.)

Really sad news.

Liberty's Edge

I think I will do what someone over at RPG.net said they would.

Tonight I will not slay any dragons in Skyrim in memory of Her.

We've lost one of the greats. I think I'll raise a glass tonight in honor of one of the best fantasy writers we've seen in my lifetime. Tomorrow, well, maybe the dragons will be fair game again :) Rest well, Anne McCaffery. May your stories be told forever.

Oh no. I loved her works. Sad day indeed.

She was one of the few living authors I cared enough about to write to. Her books were a joy to read. I read most of her books. While she is best known for her Dragonriders of Pern series, I also enjoyed her Talent, Freedom, Crystal Singer, Brainship, Arcona and Petaybee series as well as her many stand alone books. The first book of hers I read was coincidentally the first book she published, Restoree. While many authors writing style are a little choppy, hers always flowed smoothly. My bookshelf always had an open space for her next book, which will now remain bare. She will be missed.

I had no idea she was 85. Wow. This is sad news. Sh was quite a champion of our collected interests and loves.

Liberty's Edge

The world has lost both a gentle soul and an author who moved many with her works. May Anne McCaffrey rest in peace, and may her works be read with joy for many years to come.

I read her stories for many years. I always enjoyed them. My condolences to her family and friends. May she Rest In Peace, she will be remembered.

Dragon Riders of Pern is fantasy canon.
Thank you Anne McCaffery and rest well.

It's been well over a decade since I read any of her books, but I loved Anne McCaffery's books. Not just the Pern series, but also the Crystal Singer trilogy and I had started in on the Acorna series before moving on to other authors as my tastes changed. She was a wonderful author, and I was sorry to hear that she had died.
