A weird buying and selling exploit I found

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Buy 20 obsidian arrows for 5 silver pieces but in the core rulebook for gemstones it says that obsidian is a gemstone worth 10 gold pieces. so does this has a redicolous rate of return if the gm allows it gaining 199.5 gold pieces for each 20 arrows purchased. It is worse than ladders and ten foot poles. Oh wow what have I discovered...

I don't have my books within reach right now, but I'm guess the obsidian arrows don't have a full gemstone's worth of obsidian on them. And the GM would say no pretty fast.

It's not a video game.

the 10 gp is for a solid gemstone, not shattered pieces tied to sticks.

or do you accept shredded bills as currency?

The only thing you have discovered is that worked or cut obsidian is worth more than arrow heads. Just like a diamond isn't really worth much until it's cut either.

Now, here's something I found.

A pig costs 3 gp.

A slab of bacon costs 5 gp.

How many slabs of bacon can you get from one pig?

Not enough to justify spending time butchering pigs rather than adventuring :)

Well, just find that poor schmuck of a sorcerer who was born with the innate ability to cast Recompose Corpse, or whatever it is. Infinite bacon!

2 slabs of bacon per pig. 2 loins, 2 hams, 2 racks of ribs (short and long) 4 feet, and 1 tail. yes buchering has a great profet margin.

Also you need to smoke the slab of pig to make it a slab of bacon. You lose time and when you fail the skill check the bacon when doing this. Also I think a pig only has 2 slabs of bacon.

I bet I could make a spell that does that in dramatic fashion. Of course it will have to be tested... Any volunteers?

While I greatly applaud the quest for infinite bacon I don't believe that would work, I believe the spell you are looking for is

Restore Corpse

You grow flesh on a decomposed or skeletonized corpse of a Medium or smaller creature, providing it with sufficient flesh that it can be animated as a zombie rather than a skeleton. The corpse looks as it did when the creature died. The new flesh is somewhat rotted and not fit for eating.

Pretty much says right there that it won't work, unless you are looking for a higher then level 1 ability. I think we should invent a new grand discovery for an alchemist, "Regenerating dire pig". Forget the philosophers stone, Just give him a pig that never dies. Perhaps it also needs to be selective bred like the creature in Hitchhikers guide, at the restaurant at the end of the universe (the one that was bred specifically to want to be eaten). Heck awaken it, give it ranks in profession butcher, make it enjoy making bacon.

I see your Restore Corpse and raise you a Purify Food & Drink:

Purify Food & Drink

This spell makes spoiled, rotten, diseased, poisonous, or otherwise contaminated food and water pure and suitable for eating and drinking. This spell does not prevent subsequent natural decay or spoilage. Unholy water and similar food and drink of significance is spoiled by purify food and drink, but the spell has no effect on creatures of any type nor upon magic potions. Water weighs about 8 pounds per gallon. One cubic foot of water contains roughly 8 gallons and weighs about 60 pounds.

Please report to the Recruitment thread, because I'm starting a new PbP: Undead Pigs and Iron Cooks: the Quest for Infinite Bacon.

Pssst. "Bovine" is beef. Bacon comes from porcine animals.

they make bacon out of chicken, so why not from beef as well :P

lol. Oops. good catch.

How about anything caught in the blast. Just add a D6/caster level damage and call it a day. Trolls often use this spell for procreation. ;-)

If you die from the damage you should be turned into bacon.

Then this spell must be from the Transmutation school.

While the prize of bacon surely can bring in some cash, you need to take the amount of time into account.

Cutting that slab of bacon from a pig, of course depends on your skills, but even a lvl 20 master butcher with int 26, skills focus and masterwork tools is going to have a craft (meat) at +39.

Assuming that a slab of meat is a typical item sets the DC at 10.

Even while rushing the job (+10 DC), assuming an average roll(10), he is only able to make 20 slabs per week, or around 3 per day.

There is also the prodigy feat which would give another +2(UM) but that is highly irrelevant as it is still slow.

Ehh, just make a golem that does it. Measures the pig, lines it up, chops it up, throws the carcass away to be remade / purified.

I just envisioned a funny adventure idea have someone be turned into a pig and sold to geb where you have to save a person from being slaugthered and turned into baccon by undead.

Aehm... I'm not exactly sure whether the pig sold for 3 gp is already a fully fattened one, but sure that bacon making must fetch some money back (as bacon must be properly smoked and prepared).

The same goes for gemstones - only the nice ones fetch good money, just like with pottery. A jug is worth a bit more than a pile of shards.
