I won the GM competition portion of the Grand Melee in Pacificon in Santa Clara, CA and was told I would get an extra star for winning. I haven't received it yet so far. I talked to Mike Az. a while back and he told me that he'll see about it, but so far I still don't have it.
That seems kinda odd. I’ve never heard of awarding a GM star based on “winning” an event. My understanding was you earn a star by GM’ing a certain number of scenarios, and I believe to get your second star, you need 30.
If someone knows differently, please let me know.

Likewise, I am confused and intrigued. I normally think of special event winners earning a special boon. Stars, on the other hand, traditionally have been reserved for GMing scenarios.
I did a quick check of the Pacificon website and game registration, but I couldn't find much regarding Pathfinder. Do you have any paper or digital statement of your accomplishment? Can you link us to any information about the Grand Melee event and its prize list?
Addition: I've found the Warhorn registration for that event, and it simply references a big prize for a table (text reproduced below):
"This is a special Pathfinder Event. The Pathfinder Society is looking for the best of the best from amongst their ranks. The Grand Melee is a 5 round battle against the worst of the worst designed to test the mettle of the Pathfinders while finding their champion. Score points by vanquishing your foes quickly! Help your table score high to win top prize. This 1-round scenario is for all levels (Tier 1-11)."
I wasn't at the event, but I'm increasingly skeptical about the reward of a GM star to every member at a table. Again, any information you can send our way would be helpful.

The bonus star was for only the GM rated highest by his or her players at the end of the Grand Melee, which was me.
I don't have any written proof, but I do have the word of the Bay Area Venture Captain, Mike Azzolino that this was the prize for winning the GM portion of the competition.

The granting of an extra star was something the winner of the tournament won at PaizoCon, but was never offered at any of the other conventions that ran this exclusive event. The event coordinator should have received a special boon that was meant to go to the winning GM. Please have Azmyth contact me or Mike about this and we'll get it squared away. Sorry if there was any confusion.
