"ROBOT" INDISPOSED.
THE Christmas break was a lapse even for Robot, Manchester's automatic policeman at tbe junction of 'Cross-street and Market-street.
It was on Monday that Robot felt the first pain. The traffic was just at its height, but it was Christmas Eve, and he ceased work. Hurriedly his medical advisers were sent for, and they persuaded Robot to work after a six hours' rest.But the rain had got into Robot's works, and on Christmas Day he felt too ill to start at all. No doubt he had earned a day's rest. However, he was able to have his inside works replaced, and all was well.
Just what someone gave Robot during the night to keep out the cold is not known, but on Boxing Day at noon Robot became hysterical. His three eyes began to blink with the rapidity of a sky sign, and once more drivers could only gaze helplessly at the "moving" scene.
