Hunter the Vigil?

Is this anygood

I am trying to find all my old mortal books but I have an entire large tote of WOD books curently missing

So if I cant find them is this a good replacement

Liberty's Edge

I like 'em. If you want to run a mortals scampering around in a world inhabited by vampires and werewolves and mages and other weirdnesses, it can be quite fun... especially if you go a bit X-Files and keep them guessing about whether what they find has a mundane explanation or not.

I was going a little more supernatural then X files

Liberty's Edge

I was really referring to the way in which the X-Files tended to leave it open as to whether whatever was being investigated had a mundane explanation or not...

My game started with a bunch of cops who knew nothing of matters supernatural, and who gradually came to realise that there was much more out there than they'd heard about in police academy!

I would recommend just getting the World of Darkness main book. The Armory is great too, but the Armory Reloaded is not so great.
I bought the Hunter the Vigil book thinking I would use it alot, but haven't touched it since reading it through. I'm not into the organizations & things in my game, but you may, so if you want a lot of premade things to toss into your story, go for it.
Otherwise, stick with WoD. & if you want some supernatural, get the Book of SPirits & the Second Sight books.

If you want modern supernatural horror that is very investigative you might want to check out Esoterrorists, which uses the Gumshoe system. I don't personally have it, but I do have Trail of Cthulhu, which also uses the same system, and it is a really interesting game from a mechanical perspective.

However, if you want to check out Hunter they have a free quick start that includes an adventure on Drivethrurpg. The quickstart is about 60 pages, so given its free you can't really go wrong downloading that.

Yeah, while I like a lot that was redone with nWoD versus oWoD, I did not like the ways the old Hunter The Reckoning was changed when Hunter The Vigil was released.

As for supernatural horror RPGs in general, Call of Cthulhu is always a good one. Lovecraft's mythology does not have to be used and the system is very investigative in nature, or at least was with the group I played it with. You can also just get the core rules of the system, called Basic Roleplaying, with nothing setting specific included so that you can make your own world around the mechanics.
