Megan's Council of Thieves game is in need of 2-3 players. This is not a super fast posting game, but usually averages 5-6 posts a week per player, not so much on weekends.
We are currently at 2nd level, and remaining players are a Human Paladin of Shelyn (Me), and a Human Universalist Wizard.
I honestly don't remember the creation rules, but post concepts and interest here, and hopefully Megan will chime in with some rules.

Arazni |

Well shucks, the other two times I tried this adventure, I played a Human Paladin of Arazni, and an Elf Universalist Wizard. I guess I can come up with something else.
BTW, what happened to the other players?
I'm thinking an air elemental wizard / monk (zen archer) (since we're starting at 2nd level, presumably). :) I'll try to come up with a background. How far have you all gotten into the game? And can my character be an aasimar? (as ridiculous as it sounds... lol.)
Traits: Westcrown Firebrand, Courageous (unless you want me to take some other trait to weaken the aasimar abilities, if its allowed)
Gerinelle DiAcosta has long kept to the shadows in Westcrown, and to the rooftops as well, keeping an eye on the corruption of the city after Aroden's death, and noting the rise in the population of tieflings in the city. Still, everything has its place and its purpose, and she could feel the hum of holy laws in her blood. She watched, aching, as the laws of Cheliax continued to bend towards Asmodeus than a more healthy balance between good and evil faiths. The Inheritor was ignored, it seemed, in the fallen shadow of Aroden, and she had a duty to see that goodness itself was not lost in the threats of villainy. Some lights shine secretly in shadows, however, and she had spent some time protecting the lights that shone in secret places. And she would continue to do so.

i'm thinking bear shaman.
because bears are awesome
and they like hanging out with people, so no problems in towns

Talomyr |

I would be interested in posting a character concept, most likely a Rogue of some sort, and possibly a Tiefling if it is being allowed as a PC race in this game, if not I would probably go with a human or half-elf.
The big question for Megan is, is she willing to allow a PC into the game that happens to be running one of the other Council of Thieves PbP on the Paizo boards?

Fraust |

Interested in playing this.
If the APG/playtests are fair game, I'd love to play a half elf magus, or a human battle oracle.
If only core I'd go elvin rogue or a sorcerer/rogue (arcane trickster eventually, tiefling preferably, though human would work).
Personalities 'n stuff...
magus-swashbuckler type, think Mad Martigan with spells.
oracle-gruff military medic "quit belly-achin' boy, I'm tryin' to work here. Hold your guts in while I put your eye back in, don't want me steppin' on them while I'm workin' do ya?"
rogue-honestly, just another excuse to make my own version of Merisiel.
trickster-female master burglar, enjoys thumbing her nose at the powers that be.

Poor Wandering One |

Good evening. I would like to present the respects of Dr. Emil Etranger. Alchemist.
The Dr. is rather busy as the moment as a thunderstorm is building but I am certain he could fit you into his schedule.
IT'S ALIVE! ALIVE!
Sorry have to go.
Also on offer is Caelin True, Private Detective.
'Can it narrator, I'll tell it like it is. It's a bad night in Westcrown. It's always a bad night in Westcrown. The rain washed the dirt out of the streets but it will take more than rain to clean this city. And maybe, maybe that just the way I like it. Caelin True, confidential investigations. You're in trouble, I can help. 35 silver a day, plus expenses.'

Salm |

I was in a couple of these adventures that died out. Both times just after rescuing an elf whose name escapes me at the moment. Anyway I present Salm, the half-orc inquisitor of Milani (the patron deity of hope and uprisings) for your approval. I believe it was a 20pt buy and he's still 1st level. I can easily make any changes that are required.

Making sure the whole post is visible. For some reason, its not. (Creepy)

Here is a concept I have been wanting to play in this campaign. I made if for another Council Of Thieves game that ended up falling through.
Ferro Hasslebottom
Halfling Bard
Neutral
Personality:
Like many halflings, Ferro always seems to be optimistic, even in the face of the society he was forced to grow up in. He is a fan of riddles and has learned when it is best to speak the truth and when it is better to lie. Having spend much of his life serving Westcrani elite, Ferro knows when one should hide and when making a spectacle of oneself is the best camouflage. As a result of his life under the deceptive power of the Phandros , Ferro does not trust easily, and puts his family's safety before his own. Though he has learned to think his actions through, sometimes his instincts cause him to act brashly. In these cases, he often pays a visit to his mother, the elderly halfling woman, with years of experience, often acts as a moral compass to keep her son from doing something that could cause more harm than good for the young halfling.
Background:
Born the second son to a widowed cook of the Wiscrani House Phandros, Ferro grew up learning how to serve the Chelaxian elite. His mother also taught him how tact can be his best ally when dealing with the narcissistic personalities that made up the House they served. As such, Ferro learned how to massage the egos of his masters in order to protect himself and his family from the persecution faced by many of his fellow slaves. Sometimes this involved knowing what words to say, or simply entertaining them with a dark play or song. Learning that words posses a magic in themselves, Ferro learned to utilize his performances to awe and stun the nobles he was ordered to perform for. After many years, his skills grew until he became the favorite of Marcus Phandros, the House patriarch, with his rendition of the Rise of Twilight, a short, one man play which depicts an unknown Westcrani noble as he lives the events of Westcrown's return to power as the City of Nine Stars. With this came many benefits, such as use of the House libraries as well as a finer style of living. The young Ferro was even allowed to leave the House on his own to run private errands for his master. On one such trip, Ferro had the opportunity to pass by one of the markets run by the church of Shelyn and was amazed by the beautiful pieces of art and dances he viewed there. Since then, he has taken to secretly following the Eternal Rose and has taken to writing songs and short plays focused on things of beauty instead of the dark themes that his master enjoys.
Even with these freedoms though, Ferro still recognized that he is slave to a society he did not fit in to and that one misstep could spell the end not only for himself, but his entire family. Therefore, he continues to act the part of a good little halfling slave, though deep down, his heart desires to view a Westcrown that can thrive without the need for the diabolical pacts that many of the city's mover and shakers make.
Description:
Ferro, bearing the porkchop sideburns, round, likable face and tough, hairy feet of his kind, is only distinguishable from others of his race due to his finely crafted clothing in blues and reds as well as the brand on his arm which marks him as belonging to Marcus Phandros. Possessing of a slim frame, Ferro prefers to avoid combat when possible with many acrobatic moves that help to not only keep him out of harm's way, but to also add theatrical flair to the parts he adapts in his plays. Hanging from his fine, leather belt is a small pouch and a leather sling which he uses to protect himself when necessary as well as a dagger, both sized for a man of his stature. Ferro's blond hair is held back with a strip of fine, red silk and his gray eyes hold a whimsical playfulness that reflects the optimism inherent of his race. Having learned to act in order to please his master, Ferro has learned to take on the role of various people and, with the right resources, can even assume the role of people three feet taller than himself.
Please let me know if he would be a good fit for your party.

Just sticking my nose in... I'm the GM of this game.
I am notorious for allowing novel concepts. There's a pseudodragon oracle who thinks he's a baby bronze dragon in another of my games... :)
So I don't have any problems with bears. I like bears.
In the game so far, the characters have hooked up with a bunch of folk who want to improve the governance of Westcrown, been chased through the sewers by Hellknights and, yes, 'rescued the elf' as mentioned earlier. They've just been to the theatre, met an obnoxious actor and a couple of folks involved in theatre management and... that's when it ground to a halt somewhat. But I'll be happy to carry on, especially if a few more players join in.
I'll keep an eye on this thread if anyone has specific questions.

Mark Sweetman |

I've a concept for a Halfling Barber (Vhailor Falk) that I'd be keen to play.
Thematically he is a halfling who grew up as a slave in a minor noble house, working as a barber like his father. When his parents passed, the noble cut him free and he took up with a Varisian theater troupe for a time. After a time with the troupe, he has returned to Cheliax to improve the lot of his fellow halflings.
Flamboyantly dressed and spoken, he is hard not to miss in a crowd despite his short stature. Brown hair drawn into a ponytail and with a meticulously maintained goatee.
Mechanically he is a two-weapon archetype fighter that dual wields war razors (from Adventurer's Armory). High dex finesse build with Pirahna Strike (from one of the Sargava PDFs - is basically power attack for finesse fighters).
If you would like to see more I'll stat him up as a profile. What's the point buy, etc?
FYI - I'm also in another PbP with Scranford, though I promise that this character would be a bit more stable and balanced than Dibbets

<Pauses in writing presentation for Friday's job interview...>
Fraust:
1. 20 Points
2. Average
3. Any Pathfinder core book. Other sources, ask. Playtests if you really must (no gunfighters!).
Arazni:
I already said "Yes" to a bear. As long as he's occasionally sober - stay off the whiskey :)
KenderKin:
Stop knocking yourself out, you're making the place look untidy. Either yield to temptation (go on, you know you want to...) or go away :(

I've never played Council of Thieves, and I don't really know anything about the AP.
I'd like to introduce a gnome rogue, acting as a face/skill monkey. Part-time theatrical actor, he noticed the party's recent efforts at the theater, and is willing to help. He's trying to keep up with new experiences because there are only so many plays, you know, and he's hoping that some new activity will be just the ticket.

![]() |

If you are still taking requests to join the game I would like to submit a half-elf sandman bard I've been wanting to try. I don't have much experience in pbp but have been trolling for a while. Her concept is that she is the child of some failed actors and is using her acting in order to become a more effective spy. I am on my iPhone now but will repost a character later when I can sit down with some books.

![]() |

Sounds terrific, Megan!
I'm thinking of taking the Breadth of Experience feat, which requires that my character be at least 100 years old. For a gnome, that's Middle Age, which would normally mean -1 Str/Dex/Con, and +1 Int/Wis/Cha. Should I take those rules, or assume instead that Bleaching rules are in effect for gnomes and assign no ability adjustments?

Patcher |

I would like to join, but I'm not sure which kind of character I'd go for. I had in mind a Paladin of Shelyn who fights with 2 weapons and focuses on Perform (Dance), essentially focusing on the beauty of a bladedancer. Horrendously inconvenient to be sure, but still...
Will follow this topic and may conjure a character for review.

...snip...
whoah, whoah, i was just thinking a druid with the bear shaman archetype and a bear animal companion, but are you saying here you'd let me play an actual bear? oh man, oh man, that is so AWESOME.
so i'm thinking now an awakened bear, perhaps with the power of speech, maybe class is ranger, and disguise maxed out. he wears a long leather coat and a hat to try and blend in. bears can walk on their hind legs pretty good, but he'll probably still need acrobatics too.
hmmm, hmmm, thinking......

Okay, if I'm not taking age adjustments, I'm thinking:
Str 8 (0pts, -2 race)
Dex 17 (13pts)
Con 12 (0pts, +2 race)
Int 14 (5pts)
Wis 10 (0pts)
Cha 14 (2pts, +2 race)
If I am taking age adjustments, I'm thinking:
Str 8 (1pt, -2 race, -1 age)

Int 14 (2pts, +1 age)
Wis 10 (-1pt, +1 age)
Cha 16 (3pts, +2 race, +1 age)
Come to think of it, I could do the second array whether or not there's an age adjustment (spend 0/10/0/5/0/5). I'll take that.

Balnibarbi "Bob" Bollynocker is a jack of all trades; ratcatcher, sewer cleaner, sailor, coachman, choir member, librarian, tutor, translator, ditch digger, carnival barker, clown, potato farmer, and, as of late, thespian. He hasn't spent longer than a few years in any pursuit, which means that by this time in his life, he's done just a little bit of about everything. Sure, the lack of dedication to any one cause has been hard on his finances, but he has traveled the world and seen most things at some point. But now, he's looking for the next big opportunity, and who knows? There's this new group speaking with Michael Wentworth. They look like interesting chaps, carrying a few things you wouldn't normally think of.
Haven't bought equipment yet.
Now, yes, this guy is in NO WAY combat-optimized. If you need someone who is better in a fight, let me know and I'll adjust.

Angryscrub: Sorry, I thought you said you wanted to be a bear... oh, you do now? Goodie!!!!

ok, so i've never made a bear pc before (which i think is a sad commentary on the state of rpg's these days), so here are my thoughts based on the bestiary.
magical beast (augmented animal): An awakened black bear is considered a magical beast.
Medium: Black bears are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Fast walker: Black bears have a base speed of 40 feet.
Low Light Vision: Black bears can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
Keen sniffer: Black bears have an excellent sense of smell and have the scent special ability.
Water lover: Black bears receive a +4 racial bonus on Swim skill checks.
Tough skin: Black bears have very thick skin and fur, and have a +2 natural armor bonus.
Natural Weapons: Black bears have 2 claw attacks and a bite that all do 1d4 damage. These are considered primary natural attacks.
Languages: Black bears begin play speaking Common and Bear. Black bears with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Elven, Gnome, Sylvan, Dog, and Cat.
thinking maybe no stat adjustments, just do a straight 20 point buy and go straight into class levels. or if you want me to take racial hit dice first, i suppose the racial stat adjustments should come into play. thoughts?

I have a WIP in progress, I reckon I should run the initial concept by you before I start levelling him up and fleshing out the backstory. The WIP is currently in my profile.
"The Reaper" (WIP name, will not be his nickname nor his name) is a mercenary, known for his absolute loyalty to the mission and his absolute disinterest in the living. He specialises with the scythe, a symbol to 'reap' the bounty that he is hired to kill; to him, gold is the only thing that matters; gold, and honour. The lives of his comrades matter only if the contact called for them being alive by the end. Once he has set out on a contract, however, he will never drop it unless the employer calls him off - once, when hired to dispose of a minor crime lord, he was bribed with twice, thrice and even four times the initial sum, but he refused. He was hired to kill, and he came back with the crime lord's head, just as the contract states. His dedication to the job is what sets him apart from other mercenaries.

Vhailor Falk |

This is Mark Sweetman's submission of Vhailor Falk, Halfling Barber extraordinaire. Most of the crunch is finished in the profile. Avatar isn't the greatest, but best I could find.
A short colorfully dressed halfling sashays into the room surveying all around him with a smile "Well met good friends, may we hope that acquaintance blossoms into a greater sense of welcome. I am Vhailor, and at your service if you need a haircut or some throats slit."
Updated avatar so there isn't a clash now
