Hmm. I haven't messed with Warmachine in a long time, and the local store has a league! Yay! A nice relaxing night enjoying minitures! I love miniatures.

(opens new Cygnar Battlegroup box)

Holy crap! They're not metal any more, they're plastic! WTH! Oh my goodness, just look at all the little parts. Don't they know I'm old? WTH? Oh crap - these aren't plastic - they're RESIN. I HATE RESIN! OMG - did I just stab my finger .... great - now there's blood everywhere. Where's the head at? Is that what the cat is gnawing on? OMG! I HATE SUPERGLUE! It's all over my hands - how did I get ... WTF? Why is my eye glued shut? When did I rub my .... AUGH Not another stab wound! NOOOO! I just glued a thumb print all over this guy's cloak - I hate superglue ... Noooo! Not another finger? How does such a little cut bleed so much. Cat! Get away, you mongrel - I just glued ... OMG!

*sigh* I hate miniatures.

LOL. The nice thing is that superglue doubles as an excellent cauterizing agent! Add a little tissue paper to the mix and it's almost as good as sci-fi synthetic skin.

Edit: As a semi-psychotic side note, I used to do a fair bit of rock climbing many years ago. Tends to make the fingertips pretty ragged, especially as you get better and start to do climbs with smaller and smaller holds. One morning my more experienced climbing partner whips out a tube of superglue and suggests I put it on my fingertips. I did, a little cautiously, and it was like magic...instant skin-like protection against scrapes and "flappers". I've actually thought about trying it for guitar practice but usually get frustrated and put the thing away long before my fingers start bleeding.

I actually had a good time, but I was a bit miffed that the figures were resin. I've gotten so used to doing GW plastics, and I really prefer the forgiveness that is in plastic model glue. I'd not worked in super glue in a while, and the brand I am using is very "wet". Once I remembered all my old tricks, like paper towels to wick away excess glue, etc., things went pretty well. I did pretty much ruin the Commander Stryker miniature though with the initial glue errors, but he's easy enough to replace - I'd already decided to get the alternate figure before I goofed anyways. Right now I have the three warjacks primed and curing (I always 'cure' the primer at least 24 hours before painting over it.)

I am not sure if it is available in the US, but the brand of superglue I use, has "gel control"...it is fantastic, no more superglue slopping everywhere.

Totally agreed. I prefer the gel to the runny type. Problem was, I did them at 10pm. Now the box says PLASTIC miniatures, but they're really a type of resin that does not glue together with plastic model glue, so I was caught unawares. Had to use what was at hand.

Sounds like Privateer Press's move to plastic/resin has not notably improved their ease of assembly.

I assembled a number of Warmachine figs back when they were still metal (and Privateer Press prided itself on its "heavy metal warfare" and swore up and down and 10 ways to Sunday that they would NEVER, EVER switch to plastic, LOL)... and had a number of comparable issues. The big, complex warjacks often had serious mold-line issues and even if not were not easy to assemble. Pinning was often required just to hold everything together (I'd pin anyway, but I was used to pinning being optional). Often there were big gaps I needed to fill with Green Stuff. And I DID in fact poke myself with sharp metal bits. :)

At least with plastic I imagine they're not so heavy (don't have to worry about top-heavy 'jacks, etc.).

Privateer Press makes beautiful figures; some of the best sculpts I've seen anywhere. But they weren't "user friendly" then and looks like they haven't come very far.

I don't pay close attention, are they switching all their warjacks to plastic or is this just one sub-line?

I got a Mangler heavy warjack back in the summer during the Alliance sale and it's lovely and metal. (Very pointy and dangerous though.) I didn't pin it but used a combination of super glue and green stuff to assemble it.

Wolf, my understanding is they're switching stuff over to plastic. This is in part based on stuff my friends told me (and seeing some of the plastic sets they got) and in part trying to scour the Internet for information... it's been a dang long time since I went to the Privateer Press site and I don't know what they did or if I'm just being stupid, but I can't find any useful information on there now.

I would imagine even if they are switching things to plastic, they wouldn't take existing metal models off the market (and some of the new figs may also still be metal, I don't know).

I bought my army ages ago and haven't added to it recently so I don't know a whole lot. My apologies for any misinformation.
