Advice on sorting out gaming music...

Music & Audio

TL;DR version = I have a lot of soundtracks and music for gaming I have gathered... I'm looking for advice on must have "categories" for dividing it up into themed playlist.

Non-TLDR:
I was taking a break from planning out the upcoming game of Pathfinder this Sunday to play Oblivion when I thought of something... A while back I added some theme music to the folders of Oblivion to add some diversity to the song choices. For those that don't know, Oblivion's folders are sorted into Battle, Dungeon, Explore, Public, and Special.

My idea is to sort all of my various scores/sountracks and gaming music into playlists in a similar fashion. The advice I seek is for what kinda suggestions of "themed playlists" to create. I'll include the obvious "Boss music" to the list.

Any other ideas?

Yar!

My current gaming 'soundtrack' includes the following playlist titles:

Ambiance
Battle (regular)
Boss (epic)
Castle/Royalty
Creepy
Diabolic
Dungeon
Exotic/Foreign
Goofy
Grand Entrance
Happy
Heroic
Holy
Mystery
Peaceful
Sad/Dire
Time Limit/Chase
Town
Travel

If you have a system that can have multiple tracks going at the same time, it's great to have something from Ambience going non-stop (depending on location/weather) while fading in and out music from the other playlists (depending on present circumstances).

Awesome! This is definitely a step in the right direction...thanks! :)

Yar!

...and you're welcome! ^_^

...and one little addition (two actually)…

SFX (for those one-second individual sound effects, monster roars, rocks falling, spell blasts, "found an item riff", flatulence/burps, animal mating calls, etc)

…and the one that my group absolutely loves:

Level Up! (a collection of the various victory fanfares from the Final Fantasy games, Crono Trigger/Cross, etc. A sure fire (albeit possibly a bit silly) way to let everyone know when they've gained enough XP to level up)

...

Have fun filling up your playlists! (and perhaps finding/creating some new ones that fit your gaming group specifically... I’ve also found that even the music selection for each one evolved and mutated slightly after some use and input from my fellow players)
