Due to an unexpected change of homeport, announced within days of my arrival at my new duty station, I will be working at the Everett Naval Station for the next couple of years. Since my family was not expecting to move for that time, I will have to find a small apartment in the Everett, Washington area.
I'm hoping some of the Seattle-savvy Paizo folks can offer me advice on where to look for apartments and on locations where I should/should not focus my efforts.
I'm not looking for anything fancy, since a lower rent will allow money for more trips between San Diego and Seattle to see my family.
I guess I'm looking for something with no more than 2 bedrooms, within about a 20-minute commute to the Everett Naval Station. Apartment community amenities (exercise facilities, etc.) would be nice, but aren't a must. Broadband internet access IS a must, however.
I've had recommendations to look in Mukilteo. Any other advice would be highly appreciated.

Welcome to the Puget Sound area! I'm not in a position to offer specifics on housing in Everett at the moment (I used to work in Everett, but that's been some years now). You may want to consider looking a little bit north toward Marysville; the housing there was a bit cheaper than right around the Boeing plant and family friendly. Mukilteo is a nice area, but you have to be careful with prices; it used to be drastically more expensive the closer you get to the Sound. Think long and hard before considering going any further south for housing (like to Lynnwood or Mill Creek) because the commute can quickly get frustrating and blow your 20 minute preference.
Trips to Seattle should not be an issue. Outside of rush hours, it is maybe a 40 minute drive each way. If you time your trips to avoid peak commuter hours, visiting family most places in Puget Sound should be pretty painless.

Thanks!
I'll definitely take all of this advice into account. There are still a lot of details to work out, but I need to start planning now. It would be different/easier(maybe) if we were just looking for a house. (Having them with me would be far better, but just doesn't work for my kids' school situation at the moment.) So since my family will be staying in San Diego, I just need a small place that will allow them some room for when they do come to visit.
