It's just kinda three blocks down from where I was parked at a light and saw this dude who for some reason proceeded to pull out a hand cannon and fire at a speeding away vehicle.

I had the AC/DC crunk, so I didn't hear the bullets at first.

And, the corner has the cheapest gas, but I get panhandled for a fillup every time I go there.

Not as bad as Deep Ellum, though, where you can go get a beer and punched in the back of the head and relieved of your wallet.

I lived the first 23 years of my life in Irving, TX. Until I got shafted,...I mean drafted.

Actually we lived in Corsicana, TX til I was 1 then moved to Irving.

I was in Las Colinas for a year. It was nicer.

There's a hill at the corner of MacArthur and 625 that God stood on overlooking a plain there, waved his hand, and said "let there be apartments," and it was good.

My Father has a home that he is going to rent out over on the southwest side where it is almost as easy to go to Grand Prairie as it is to downtown Irving.

I'm not too bad off; it's like a patchwork in Dallas.....there'll be two blocks of warzone then two blocks of really swank estates......

One time I was lost around the fair park, and I drove past about two blocks worth of swank estates, then 200 yards later there was about 15 kids mugging a Mexican guy with one of those little ice cream push carts......

Thank you so much, whoever gave us that gift. You cannot imagine how much it has picked me up. I just saw the email after a day of sorting out things to sell. Thank you. <3

Rant for Urizen's ears or anyone else who cares...

Pure Steam rant:

I figured I would add this little blurb from my rant separately because I think it is funny...
Note: I first read "augmented feral beasts" as "augmented feral breasts". Huzzah! Followed by disappointment.

Pure Steam
Launched: Mar 10, 2012
Funding Ended: May 9, 2012
Playtesting has been ongoing, and we start open playtesting as soon as we're funded. We're going to hit as many of the Cons as possible this summer (Origins, GenCon Indy, etc) to give you a chance to see and play the game
Pledge $150 or more
2 Backers
All lower rewards plus exclusive access to our initial round of beta playtesting. You'll see the game before anyone else, play it, and help shape the game with your feedback!
Est. delivery: May 2012
Note: So, playtesting (alpha) has been ongoing and they would be starting Beta (open, at cons and closed via backing at a certain level, $150 and above).

Pure Steam Twitter 23 May 2012
Working feverishly to clean up our docs for playtest next week
Note: Sounds like it is almost done for estimated delivery of closed Beta (open at cons). Not the same as advertised in their Kickstarter home page.

Kickstarter Update 09 June 2012
We are almost ready to send out our playtest materials to our $150+ backers.
What you'll be getting:
Original base classes and archetypes to run through the ringer.
Original subrace source material to set your character apart.
A multi-level adventure module set in Ullera--big booms and quick action!.
Stats for our one-of-a-kind steampunk vehicles.
Our module is complete with maps for the continent, nation, town, and battles.
We originally planned to get this material out to you by 5/31. Thanks for being patient as we polish it up and goat-rope our artists.
Note: At this point it just needs polishing up and artists to be "goat roped". But, how were they planning on starting this when funding ended if they weren't already ready to do so?

Pure Steam twitter 27 Jun 2012
Our web-site is evolving, our playtest is almost released, and new cosplay 'stumes are being finished. This is the summer of Pure Steam.
Note: Apparently this is the Summer of Pure Steam, but I thought it was the summer where so many things were happening in the personal lives of the team that they were unable to get things done? (see later)

Next on twitter comes a couple nonsense posts (nothing wrong with that, it is twitter after all), a post of congrats (the wedding or adoption, I suppose) and a pic of a couple of them at some sort of cosplay steampunk fest (29 Jul 2012).
Note: Time for cosplay conventions but not time to get things done on the Kickstarter project despite being behind schedule.

Pure Steam twitter 31 Jul 2012
Our playtest module has chlorine, cellophane, augmented feral beasts, and a time bomb. Coming Soon.
Note: I first read "augmented feral beasts" as "augmented feral breasts". Huzzah! Followed by disappointment. But, there is nothing in the update since they were supposedly just polishing up and waiting on the artists since June 9th. The funding was only a two month project. Just exactly how did they expect to meet their Kickstarter homepage advertised criteria of beginning playtesting at the end of funding if they weren't already ready to playtest when the two month funding project began?

Pure Steam twitter 02 Aug 2012
Pure Steam hit up #wyvacon last weekend... http://puresteamrpg.com/?page_id=138
Note: Obviously they have had enough time to go to another convention in the summer of Pure Steam but still haven't had time to finish polishing up the rules that should have been ready to give to backers at the end of funding.

Pure Steam Kickstarter update 02 Aug 2012
Herding Kittens
We've had some significant events happen in almost every team member's life:
-LanJemWezz is moving back to the U.S.
-Sellsword just got married
-B'omarr Punk adopted a girl from Ethiopia
-SoftServo's wife just delivered his second baby
As you can imagine, these events have set us back a bit here and there. But you don't want excuses, you want updates. Understood! And happy to oblige.
Note: No, backers want progress instead of being told that everything is exactly as it was when the funding project started, much less when it closed. Adopting a kid from Africa doesn't happen at the drop of a dime but somehow they were oblivious to the fact it would set them back when they started the project and did not plan accordingly when announcing their release dates for playtests. Same for getting married (most people plan at least a little) and a baby being born. Considering that the baby was just born (say 01 August 2012 at the latest, pregnancy something like 37 to 42 weeks), they should have known about the baby before the project started 09 March 2012 and when it would be due. I also think it should be noted how beneficial it would be to have a bundle of cash dropped in the lap of someone with any of these "significant events". The update also contained a link to their new web-site. A link that doesn't work...

Paizo forums 02 Aug 2012
We apologize deeply for keeping you guys in the dark on this. Ever since the project funded, we have been working on putting together our Alpha playtest for backers, as well as bringing content together for our Beta playtest for the public.
At the same time, however, almost our entire development team has undergone major life happenings; engagements, weddings, relocation, adoptions, births of children, taking on second jobs, and traveling. These events have been the primary factor in our project's delay and news blackout. This is a secondary project for the entire development team, as we aren't full-time developers (yet).
As posted earlier, here is an update posted on our Kickstarter page, pretty much saying the same thing.
Rest assured, the project is not dead. We have gotten much of the alpha playtest together for our backers, and should have it out to them in the next couple of weeks. Once we have collected our alpha feedback, we then hope to have our Beta playtest released sometime in September (which will be hosted here on Paizo).
The Alpha playtest will include:
- A 1st-Level module set in the Pure Steam campaign world of Ullera. It will feature anarchist shootouts, clockwork foes, vehicle encounters, a train encounter, and ticking time-bombs.
- Pure Steam artwork.
- The new Chaplain base class. A character who's charisma has the power to both inspire allies and demoralize foes. Something akin to a divine bard. A chaplain's association further defines their abilities; battle-field physicians, trade tycoons, spiritual icons, squad leaders, spies, and more.
- Several new archetypes.
- New feats.
- And more.
We hope to include much more in our Beta playtest.
We are also working with our website designer to get the official forums up and running for playtest feedback and general Pure Steam discussions. When they are fully functional, I will let you guys know.
I personally just want to thank you guys again for your support and your patience. Developing this project is truly a passion for us (me especially), and we are very excited for you guys to play it and give us feedback.
Note: As stated above, their "new" web-site listed on the update isn't working, much less their forums. I can find a working site using google, but the forums don't work. They state they have gotten much of the alpha playtest together (and that they started doing so when the project ended) but playtest was supposed to be started when the two month funding ended (rather than then starting putting it together). Before, they were just polishing up, and after that just waiting on pics from the artist, but now it is that they have gotten most of it together. WTF? Nothing accomplished since the funding project started and the playtest was supposed to be at the end of the two month funding project.
It gets worse for me. On August 2nd they state they will have the alpha out in a couple weeks (just a few days away since that was posted on the 2nd and today is the 12th, I'm supposed to get it via email as a pdf) and start the beta in September. How do they actually expect to get useful information back from a handful of people in that short amount of time?
Considering that I put in $165 to be in the $150 backer category and the only thing I got over the $75 backer category is access to the closed Beta (what is now being referred to as Alpha, I think) before it is offered to the public, I feel like I got bent over real hard with the open playtest supposed to have a lot more than the closed and coming a month after I (am expecting to) receive my closed version that I paid extra to have access to when the funding ended as they advertised...

I'm sorry to hear that, Thing. That really sucks. I respect that people have things come up in their lives, but this is leaning towards people being stupid with their kickstarter projects and running off with the cash.

I was unaware you were in that (I don't see you listed as someone I can subscribe to when you sign on to a Kickstarter project; you may have opted out of that option for people to follow you). Only other folks I know that are on the project as patrons are Flash, Brian Harris, and Wicht. I left comments as well as Wicht did on the Kickstarter comments page as to updates.

But that's nothing; I plunked $100 on this and have yet to see $#!+. Go to the comments page.

And don't get me started about Adamant Entertainment (or especially Wolfie, for that matter). Heh.

You might find this discussion interesting.

Depends on the author and/or project manager. For instance, if it's Open Design with Wolfgang Baur, I have the confidence that it'll be seen through.

You want to give certain upstarts a chance, but sometimes you have to take your risks accordingly.

"A lot of the problem is that people still think of Kickstarter as pre-ordering a product, when it's quite clear that they're FUNDING A PROCESS. The fact that you get product as a reward for your backing is just a bonus.

As a related example, you don't really think you're buying a coffee mug from PBS for $50, do you? No, you're backing them, and as a thank-you, they're sending you a mug."

Are you f#+&ing serious, dude?

I see where the quote is coming from, but verbage is VERY IMPORTANT with respect to kickstarter projects. If they make it sound like you're pre-ordering, then people are going to treat it like you're pre-ordering.

Wow.

As people get increasingly flighty with their projects, you will see more of this attitude. Having lower denomination levels of sponsorship will go a long way to keep people from feeling like they have been taken advantage of.

Wow, I hope you don't mind me saying that you have gotten royally screwed on the e20 project. On his (GMS) gamesite webpage he last posted december 27th and said he would have something out for you guys soon. He seems to me to be taking you guys as investors knowing they were taking a risk instead of gamers looking for a game. Uggh.

For me, I think I did opt to not be followed. Maybe I will change that. I am the one backer in the $150 category and was chosen as the winner to get written into the game as an NPC.

It remains to be seen if that will happen, I guess.

Um, funding public broadcasting is funding a social service.

Funding a kickstart is about capitalizing a business.

AND, besides, funding PBS you've allready gotten something out of it.
To whit, the ability to read, write and post. THANKS SESAME STREET!!!

I don't know.

This wasn't Logue; he's not talking about this at all.
But, for example, when I saw Razor Coast starting out, I got a feeling in my gut that Logue was promising too much, and there was no way he was going to deliver. So, the whole Kickstarter thing makes me leery to begin with.
I remember being 12 and offering to do a chore for a $10 book in advance for my parents. I never finished the chore, until ultimately I was guilted into it by my parents who were showing me that I was f!%~ing up. I think a lot of Kickstarters are the same way. You get the money, what's the impetus to finish? The guy who did that quote, I get the feeling he's pretty sure that he's entitled to Kickstarter money.

If the authors of that project appear at GenCon, I'll be sure to find their booth and/or where they're hanging at.

As for e20, I'm now reading this thread I've been re-directed to for further follow-up information.

So, I mean, I don't really expect them to know that they're necessarily f$*~ing this up. "Preorder" vs. "Patron of the Arts" is a moot point in my mind.
I'm just glad I learned this lesson when I was 12, because being an adult and being that douchy would be more than I could stand.

With regard to the "process" discussion that Spanky was referencing, I can let you figure that out really fast here and here. That was prior to the Kickstarter trend that nearly everyone jumped on board for alternative funding.

The funds from Kickstarter will cover additional artwork costs, publishing fees, and a small amount of marketing costs.

Pure Steam was conceived as a general concept over two years ago, and dedicated development commenced in Summer 2011. At this point, we've got enough content to fill a hefty tome, and we wanna share it!

Playtesting has been ongoing, and we start open playtesting as soon as we're funded. We're going to hit as many of the Cons as possible this summer (Origins, GenCon Indy, etc) to give you a chance to see and play the game.

The fundraising campaign is two months (from 10 March 2012 to 09 May 2012) with the beta playtesting (at the cons) advertised to begin at the end of funding and including backers of $150 or more.

I see the description as saying Beta rules are done and that backing $150 or more is buying first crack at the Beta. That looks like a preorder to me on that count, not to mention the books etc.
