A bunch of Scientists have concluded that Corrupt Cops are vital for keeping the rest of us in line

Finally someone is prepared to admit that States dont rule with the consent of anything other than the thugs with guns in charge.

Everyone knows this, there is nothing to admit.

An Axiom upon which society it built goes the strong rule the weak.

A Theorem, which is farther up the logical food chain, says the only reason Judges have any power is because there is a police man with a gun willing to do what the Judge said.

Police officers rule everything. They can let you off a speeding ticket, or one can shoot you in the dead of night and claim, "the guy made a tactical move on me, I was in fear for my life," and then go home.

That is actually one of the "specious" arguements behind the U.S. 2nd Amendment.

So law enforcers work more when the have incentives, wow, just wow.

This thread is mislabelled.

The study, according to the article, showed that people tend to stay in line because they don't want to get punished.

Fear of punishment is the most unhealthy basis of social order, however. So, rather than being "good for society", I think the research shows the opposite.

What an amazingly ill-conceived study. The tendency for power to corrupt and to attract those who would profit from corruption has been observed for millennia.

They'd make fine candidates for an Ig Nobel award.

The logical jumps in that study are amazing, they should go to the olympics or something.

IgNobel nominee?.

Don't forget that they get a promotion too in many cases.
