Smurfs are obviously derived from Drow (blue skin, thinly veiled Matriarchy where the one female holds sway over an entire nation of males...) and thus are destined to win in the end.

100+ diminutive creatures count as a swarm right? Give them the cannibalistic black-skinned template and I think the smurfs stand a decent chance.

Hmm, well, following the plotting of such things you need to define "win" first.
But that said, I'd imagine that the encounter happens after Gargamel gets a copy of the Necronomicon. He's already mad, so he'd be able to use it handily, though of course it would at some point be stolen by the Smurfs and read by Brainy, who would of course go mad from the revelations. Not that anyone would notice, this being Brainy we're talking about.
There would also be some confusion with Azathoth the mindless piping god and Azrael the cat named for the angel of death.
Again, with the "win." Following Smurfy plotting, the smurfs would finally destroy the Necronomicon and mindwipe Gargamel and Brainy, as they have plot immunity and are always reset anyway. And all would be happy in Smurfland until of course Azathoth destroys the universe, Smurfs included.
So, Smurfs will win the first battle, but Azathoth will win the war.
