True. Do not enter the teaching profession for the money or "the holidays"! The great myth is teachers have lots of holiday leave and that means a grand lifestyle between terms.
Not true. I spend my holidays preparing for the following term. If I am going to ensure I offer the best standard of teaching and address the varying ability of students, I need to bring my A-game to classroom.
Teaching is a rewarding profession and you will have a chance to really achieve some amazing results with your students. However, it does encroach on your lifestyle if you allow it too. I spend a lot of time at school events and time away from my family.
When I first started teaching I had the wrong mindset for the job. Now I could never see myself back in an office, I love being in front of the classroom. The rewards are more significant than an annual bonus or an end of quarter party.
