Gladiator - Combat only

DM - Round 4 update:
Axe throw, if necessary - distance penalty included 1d20 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 3 = 9

Since I haven't moved this round, I'd like to 5-foot step to put the wall between Varos and myself, after I throw. As I understand it, this should be possible.

Male Azlant Wizard (Universalist) 20

Standing there and looking at the wall and thinking the best solution. Moving to K-17 and watching around to see anything suspicious, Varos takes cover from the corner as he took fast glance

a Few Different things.

You cannot Stealth while Charging.

You can only ready a standard action, a move action, a swift action, or a free action. You can Charge as a Standard action, but you can only move up to your speed, and cannot draw a Weapon, the Charge must be in a Straight line.

You also have to move at least 10 feet

You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don't otherwise move any distance during the round.

So you cannot 5ft step out, then charge if you see him.

Based on your post, you are hiding until you see lekku, then chargeing.

Your charge will only go off if lekku appears in a square you can Charge more than 10 feet in a straight line and still threaten him.
let me know if this is Ok.

DM:

Yah, sounds reasonable and I agree. I am little bit tired and can´t clearly think, so getting mistakes now ahah. But yes, that is okey for me

Gladiator - Combat only

DM:
I'll ready an action - if he comes within 35 feet, I'll throw the axe at him.
Attack - 1d20 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 3 = 1 the move probably wouldn't help me anyway

Perception:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

round 7

Varos:

I'm rolling another perception check for you.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

You wait around a few seconds, and lekku doesn't appear, but you can still hear His Breathing in the same location as before.

No map update

After his mistake, Varos must have focused on staying quiet, becuase you do not hear him anymore, but he has not come into your line of site either.

In Lekku's Haste for first blood, the throw does wide!

since that was a readied action, it's my turn again, right?

Gladiator of Lekku wrote:

Readying an Action:

You can ready a standard action, a move action, a swift action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it. Then, anytime before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition. The action occurs just before the action that triggers it. If the triggered action is part of another character's activities, you interrupt the other character. Assuming he is still capable of doing so, he continues his actions once you complete your readied action. Your initiative result changes. For the rest of the encounter, your initiative result is the count on which you took the readied action, and you act immediately ahead of the character whose action triggered your readied action.

You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don't otherwise move any distance during the round.

Initiative Consequences of Readying: Your initiative result becomes the count on which you took the readied action. If you come to your next action and have not yet performed your readied action, you don't get to take the readied action (though you can ready the same action again). If you take your readied action in the next round, before your regular turn comes up, your initiative count rises to that new point in the order of battle, and you do not get your regular action that round.

Bold mine, I believe so, yes.

Gladiator - Combat only

With the axe thrown, the gladiator now grips the greatsword with both hands, and charges his opponent with a mighty roar!

Charge:
Move to G-18
Attack=1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 = 22
Damage=2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14

Did he finish his movement? If not, disregard the +2 for charging, and make it a regular move/attack.

K, no worries.

Evil Ginger DM wrote:

Since you had not pre-rolled the attack from your post prior to round 8, we'll assume if you had, it would be the roll you made in round 8. Going forward, if you ready an action, please make a new roll each time. In a table top situation, you wouldn't roll till the action happened. But since we are doing PBP, rolling each round will speed stuff up :-)

I'm confused. edit: I pre-rolled for each readied action since round 4, but take whichever one is appropriate.

The readied action triggered at square I18, he finished moving to square H18, you can still charge, and 22 is a Hit.

Hit or miss, I would have made the same attack afterward. Please continue - I hear cries for blood.

Xythian steps into the arena, seemingly unaware of the cheering crowd. Xythian's demenor is one of discipline and focus as he begins scanning around for his opponent.

Spoiler:
While moving to L2, he draws his bow and readies an arrow, unless this movement brings his enemy into sight. He will shoot at the first chance he get. Otherwise he will ready an action to fire at anything that comes into view from the south (well if down is south, that is)

Edit: Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Response to DM::

With my greatsword locked in one hand, a Javelin held in the other, I begin searching around for my opponent. I take care to not make excessive noise while running through however since I am double moving I can not use the Stealth skill.

I am planning to use my full double move (80'), so this post will only be a part of my turn depending on what I see. Assuming that we have started on opposite sides of the arena, I start moving to the opposite side.

I move 40' to M9. (Unless I see him at any point during my move, then this movement location will change)

My Movement Steps

(1) If I see my opponent and I am able to move right up to him, then I use my remaining 40' of movement to do that while dropping the Javelin.

(2) If I see my opponent and I am further than a 40' move away from him, then I will either:
(a) If my opponent has no cover, then I will throw the javelin at him.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
(b) If my opponent has cover then I will need you to describe where he is and what he is holding. I am assuming the stinking elf will have his bow in hand, so since I can not close with him, I will intent to use my other 40' to get cover from him (I will post this movement after you give me the description).

(3) If I did not see my opponent, then ignore all of (2). I will then move another 20' to L5 (with still 20' of movement remaining which I will continue with, depending on whether I see him or not. (Again this movement location may change, depending on whether I see him prior to entering L5).

Perception Roll 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

EDIT (Oops, this perception roll is supposed to be after Step (1)

Elodan Threolith:

Please Pre-Roll your attacks when you ready an action.

Go ahead and roll it for this round.

Male Elf Ranger 1

Xythian moves to the north, Listening /looking for Elodan, Hearing nothing, he continues north to Square L5 Where he Catches Sight of Elodan! The Sneak Elf Was ready to fire when he Saw Xythian! The Arrow Sinks in Deep into his neck for 12 Dmg!(+1/+1 point blank shot)

Xythian, you still have 20 move to use.

Readied Attack? I thought I won the initiative? Right now Elodan could not have a readied attack and actually is considered flat-footed to me?

Is there a reason I did not see Elodan in L2 from my starting position? I would have charged him?

Male Elf Ranger 1

That is true. I would not move to L2 until my initiative was up though. But I sure would hate to let a good roll like that go to waste ;). Whether or not I'll be spottet before I move, well, let's just let the good evil DM decide on that.

The readied attack roll was just one option he had in his post.

Quote:
"While moving to L2, he draws his bow and readies an arrow, unless this movement brings his enemy into sight. He will shoot at the first chance he get. Otherwise he will ready an action to fire at anything that comes into view from the south (well if down is south, that is)"

You moved up to M9, made a perception check, Its a DC 25 to Hear a bow being drawn (+10 for the wall, +2 for range, a DC of 37.) It was a DC22 to Hear you walking (+10 wall, +10 walking +2 range)

Since you did not see him un till you hit L5, your Readied action for a Charge/ throw did not Go off.

His action was to move, unless the move birng you in to view, which after your turn, you where right next to him, So he attacked.

Thoughts?

Evil Ginger DM wrote:

I hate to play rules lawyer, but there are a couple problems here.

1. He can only ready an action on his turn. His turn has not come up yet, so he can not ready an action at this time.

2. A readied action is different from a delayed action (people confuse these all the time). In a readied action you chose 1 action that you wish to ready (i.e. a standard action, a move action, etc. You can not attack and move in a readied action -- that's 2 actions).

Evil Ginger DM wrote:

I didn't ready an action. I only gave an option what I would do at the 40' part of my movement, should I see him which I didn't.

Xythian wrote:
"I am planning to use my full double move (80'), so this post will only be a part of my turn depending on what I see."

So here is what should happen based on the options I gave above:

1. As a move action I move to M9 and do not see or hear him
2. I take another move action.
3. While moving (when I enter L5 which has only consumed 20' of my 40' of movement available on this move action) you indicate that I see my opponent. (So to speed things along I will now looked at the opponent's map, rather than wait for a post to see what square I see him in... He is in I5).
4. As a free action I drop the javelin.
5. I continue my move to I4 (he does not get an attack of opportunity because he is still flat-footed due to me winning initiative, and because he his holding a bow). To move there consumes a full 40' of my second move action.
6. As a free action I go into rage.
7. I give him a cold glare, like death itself ready to pull him into the underworld.

Fair Enough.

Elodan, Please update your action based on Xythian's Move to I4. Your Previous attack roll can be used if you choose to attck this round.

Sorry to butt in here, but I have a message from Gworeth/Elodan.

He's experiencing some major computer problems and is unable to post right now. He hopes to get back online very soon, but ask you to bear with him until then (any experts on upgrading processors and RAM resulting in a non-functioning computer are welcome to offer advice to speed up the process ;-) ).

DM, this sounds like it could be a couple days delay. Maybe best to press the "pause button" on our fight and proceed with the next match?

Aye we'll suspend this one for now.

Male Elf Ranger 1

I'm posting from GentleGiant's computer, so just a short message from me. I hope to be back online again Thursday or Friday at the latest, so I hope you can bear with me until then.
Aside: Thanks to Wraithstrike for offering his help in sorting out my computer problems, but I've decided that it's much easier just to buy a whole new computer, which I'll do on Thursday. :-)

Welcome back.

If you can post your action right away that would be great, as I am leaving in 40 minutes for 3 days. (Back on Sunday night).

Male Elf Ranger 1

Dang! Tooo late!

Startled at the proximity of his opponent but trying hard not to let it show on his face he side-steps to the left and draws his dangerously looking elven curve blade and slashes it across and down on Xythian. Thank you for making this close and personal, Half-Human

taking a 5ft step to J5. Since I am only to move now I suppose I haven't got my bow and therefore draw my sword as a move action. I assume I hit with the previous roll, though it's 1 lower but he's raging, so a net +1 there.

Damage from curveblade:1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Updated Round 1

Xythian moves up to I4, draws and drops his Javelin, Draws his Greatsword upon finding Elodan, and presses in for an attack.

Elodan Steps to the Side and attacks Xythian for 8 Damage, The attack leaves a Decent Gash in Xythian's Side, but still up and fighting.

For Xythian:

FYI, its a full round action to attach the Locking gauntlent by yourself, so its not locked right now. Weapons do not start in hand, Per the hall thread, you took 2 move actions, allowing you to draw both Weapons this round.

Male Orc!!!! Level 18 Orc King

Xythian seems unfazed by the large gash that has been opened up on his upper arm. Xythian's eyes remain locked onto Elodan as he moves to the side.

Feeling an inner rage begin to consume him, Xythian's pupils grow larger while his face turns into a scoul. He raises his greatsword high above his head and descends the blade mightily towards his foe.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 272d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 3) + 9 = 15

Feeling the rage of ages mistreatment, Xythian unleashes his full savageness against the elf.

Critical damage (x2):

2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 1) + 9 = 14

Xythian looks down at the ground at the corpse split into two halves. He looks back at the gash in his arm. He shrugs. "Fair trade". Xythian leaves the arena, ignoring the screams and cries of the fans.

Please confirm the Crit.

Male Elf Ranger 1

As his lifeblood washes out of his garrish wound he fixes his eyes on the half-elf. "You will never be anything but a half-human", he says in defiance, then he spits blood at the half-elf before he embraces the darkness....

or not, lol your hit prior to the crit was enough to kill him.

Removing Elodan's Body from the Arena as the spell fades, Xythian finds 2 bags of loot waiting for him.

Xythian's Loot:

Since you just dropped your javelin, you can recover it.

500gp (award moneys for winning)

50ft rope (50 sp)
Grappling Hook (50sp)
Dagger (1gp)
10 gp

The Next Fight will begain Shortly

Whoops, sorry about forgetting to confirm the crit -- I was just surprised to see the 20. Although the initial hit did kill him, I too am interested in seeing if he died from simply a well placed blow, or a mighty powerful savage strike...

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Xythian grits his teeth in disappointment, having not been able to make as big of a spectacle out of his opponent's defeat as he could have.

As the blood gushes out of his opponent he gathers all of Elodan's gear and retrieves his javelin. Xythian grabs his 500gp cash prize and heads to the nearest shop to sell the loot.
