The Exchange 3/5

so i played pathfinder the other night n had to run one of the pregen npcs. i played the elf rog. i was blown away at how poorly made the character was, n to top it off her ability scores were completely wrong. so i looked into all the pregens provided by paizo. the first batch of characters, fighter, rogue, wizard, cleric all get a second ability point at lvl 7, instead of 8. the rogue herselfs stats get completely messed up when she makes lvl 7, she actually turns out to b a 25 point build if u count it up. Now the newer pregens, oracle, cavalier, n alchemist they are completely correct. Just a heads up b4 u make someone use those characters.

Hopefully fixed in time for Gencon and Paizocon, but since the pregens are leaving the APs, I'm not sure how much importance will be placed on correcting the PDFs.

It makes me think that all this time there has been a magic item missing from the 7th level version that boosts her Dex by 2 points. That would put her build back in the 20 point range. But I never noticed before that the 7th level pregens all get their 8th level bonus ability point a level early.

Does it actually matter in any way?

The whole reason for these characters is that you take them, play them, have fun
with them and move on.

Rules for character generation are needed to make it as fair as possible between players. Is anyone thinking these Pregens are overpowered?

If not, then again I ask - does it matter?

I admit in my early days here I also got riled up about the pregens as they seemed to proof a certain rule should be interpreted in a specific way. Jason Buhlman wasn't happy the way I looked at it.

I learned since then and sometimes also look at it from other angles.

So most players regard the pregens as underpowered. So if they get the +1 skill increase a level early for the 7th level - shouldn't that be good for game balance and fun? Shouldn't we applaud it as GMs and players as it allows a better character.

Yes - it generates a character that no player ever could have created. But do the pregens have to follow the same rules? Just once in a while let's allow some artistic freedom and don't follow RAW according to the letter.

Just my opinion.
