Freya moves around Tao and down the dark passage past Rauno ending in N10. "Finish them and let's get going," she hisses, preparing her crossbow in case she has to shoot it. Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Up next: Sarien throws his spear, then the bad guys....

Initiative order (just to have it on the new page):
Kael - 26
Freya - 23
Sarien - 22
Armigers - 8
Tao - 6
Hardin - 4
Rauno - 3
Rauno pummels the female armiger with a burst of force, knocking the air out of her, but not much more.
Sarien's spear flies true, clipping the female armiger on the leg and drawing a spray of blood and a pained grunt. She remains standing, however.
The male armiger, who had been reduced to fleeing down the hall, screams You she-DEVIL!! and moves back in the direction of the party, reloading his weapon and firing at Rauno as he does so.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Fortunately for the mage, the projectile flies harmlessly over his head.
The female armiger steels her will, drops her crossbow, draws a longsword, and takes a wild swing at Tao.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Tao easily dodges the obvious swing from the armiger and watches her eyes go wide as she overextends, knowing that her life is probably at an end.
>>Map, Round 4, Sarien's Betrayal<<
Tao, you're up!
| Freya Gilles |
The male armiger, who had been reduced to fleeing down the hall, screams You she-DEVIL!! and moves back in the direction of the party, reloading his weapon and firing at Rauno as he does so.
Freya's face twists with rage at the armiger's epithet. "The 'she-devil' is your whore of a queen, and I have nothing to do with that b!@#*!" she shouts, raising her crossbow and firing, Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 Damage 1d8 ⇒ 4 Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 before backing further down the passageway to N7.
EDIT: Or, y'know, with that Acrobatics check, falls. You're up, Sarien; go get your spear.
| DM J |
Sorry for the delay, folks!
Intent on her angst, Freya slips and slides briefly into the mire before quickly pulling herself out.
Fort Save, please, Freya!
Kael stops moving, and ostensibly, breathing. The final remaining Armiger advances, laughing madly - either at Freya or at the oncoming spectre of death, it is impossible to know for sure.
The Armiger will advance to N-17, which I believe is within range of Rauno's spell-like ability, so...fire away good sir!
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
As the armiger laughs crazily, he winds the winch on his crossbow, again firing at the most prominant target, this time Hardin.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Ouch! Crit confirm?
Confirm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4 X2= 8 Damage
That is really insanely terrible luck.
Seeing his shot at the Cleric strike home against near-impossible odds only serves to bolster the Armiger's mad laughter. Hardin gasps audibly as he sees the crossbow bolt protruding from his chest.
Hardin is at 0HP, and is Disabled as described in the Core Rules, page 189.
| Freya Gilles |
Fortitude 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Since she fell when she fired, she didn't get to move and is still in N10, right?
Hardin is up; Rauno's initiative moves to just before the armiger.
Hardin Clegane
|
Hardin slumps to his knees, and grits his teeth, pulling a scroll out of his pouch.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure light wounds scroll used.
A burst of divine radiance comes from the paper as it turns to ash in his hands - and the crossbow bolt is visibly forced from his chest, the flesh knitting as it slides out.
| Freya Gilles |
She got to stand up with her move action last round, correct? So she can act normally this round, barring another fall.
Her teeth gritted in anger, Freya shoves her way past Rauno to N12, right behind Tao, points at the armiger again and spits out some arcane syllables. casting daze DC 13; Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
| DM J |
Will Save vs. Daze: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
The armiger's insane laughter falters as he is again befuddled by one of Freya's spells - he stands there, temporarily vegetated.
Thanks for making that turn easier, Freya! Finish 'em off guys, I'm as tired of this fight as you are :-)
Do we need a map? Let's see... Tao, go ahead.
Hardin Clegane
|
Hardin picks up the fallen sword, edge still grimed with sewage, and runs the Dazed armiger through.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
He stands, and pulls the crossbow bolt out of his armor. "We need to move. Which way do the swords run?"
This doesn't keep him from grabbing the crossbow at the Armiger's feet as he turns to stake stock. "I can heal on the way. Anyone else need it?"
| DM J |
The mechanics of that last turn were off - the movement here is still doubled (squeezing), but I'm ready to move on from this combat, and I suspect the rest of you are as well, so let's just do it, eh?
188 XP each!
The holy-symbol most recently pointed down the "Northernmost" hallway in the last maps. Kael had a Longspear, a Dagger, Leather armor, and 6gp, and each armiger wore chainmail and had a longsword and a light crossbow (so there are 4 each of those). There are a total of 55 crossbow bolts all told, as well. If you want to take any or all of those items, please do so - usually what seems to work best is for one character to carry most things as a "party Pot" but you guys can do it however you want - talk it over in the OOC thread if you want to.
Hardin Clegane
|
Hardin straps the crossbow across his back, and grabs and fills a quiver of bolts.
He listens intensely for a moment for any sign of further armigers.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
"I'll help you get the set off of this fellow here; I think the one down the hallway will fit me if you're willing to return the favor. Anything we can't use, we should stash someplace where we can send someone back to retrieve it."
He hands the 6 gold to Sarien.
| Freya Gilles |
Freya retrieves a bolt from one of the Hellknights to complete her quiver before contemptuously kicking the one who had called her "she-devil" deeper into the muck. "You seem to have fastidious ways, with the foofy scarves and exotic scents" she remarks to Rauno. "More than one of us could use a magical bath if we ever make it out of here." While the others pull armor off their fallen foes, Freya rekindles the light on her ring and moves partway down the passage indicated by the swordpoint, waiting on the rest to continue.
| Rauno Redpath |
"You seem to have fastidious ways, with the foofy scarves and exotic scents" she remarks to Rauno. "More than one of us could use a magical bath if we ever make it out of here."
I'm glad the... "foofy" ways of my people meet with your approval. And when we reach our destination I'll be glad to use my modest abilities to cleanse everyone, as much for my own benefit as theirs. It is no substitute for a hot, scented bath, but it will be a delight just the same. Thank you, dear lady, for lighting our way. And... Rauno says, tapping the area near his healed wound and nodding to Hardin thank you for your timely care. If nothing else, I think this little encounter made it clear who is on which side of things.
Rauno will keep watch as the others collect the useful and valuable. If anyone hands him anything to carry (up to, say, 20 pounds), he'll accept it without complaint.

As the party moves up the tunnel following the direction of the last holy symbol, the surrounding masonry begins to change somewhat. The stonework around the group is clearly older, for one thing, but more importantly, the path widens out (to a full 5 feet of path and a full 5 feet of sewage channel, as will be the case unless otherwise specified going forward). The walls, pipes, and other fixtures are covered with a greenish moss or lichen, although the tunnel floor itself is relatively clear of the growth. The group travels in these conditions for some time - roughly 30 minutes or so pass without anything really happening. Several times the group comes to an intersection of one sort or another, and each time the holy symbol is found without much effort. Finally, the group arrives at a three way confluence. The symbol is not readily apparent anywhere.
Perception checks, everyone. Give me two.
| DM J |
Good Lord, guys and dolls. It's tough to put anything past you.
Rauno, Tao, and Hardin all notice that the moss is growing thick in this room, and they spot the very tip of a chalked sword-point peeking out from behind a large swath of the growth on one of the pipes leading into a side tunnel.
Unfortunately, when the party begins to make their way down this new corridor, nearly everyone (except Sarien, whose mind is clearly elsewhere) immediately notices a small blobby shape skittering away from the light, around a corner. This scuttling thing looks at first glance like a colorful, animate blob of slime, but its thin insectoid legs and eyestalks suggest it is a more advanced creature. Its antennae-like appendages wave about curiously, and its multiple legs carry forth its transparent, hand-sized body at a surprisingly swift scuttle. The ticking sound made by it's small legs quickly disappears around the corner... until the group realizes that really it's faded into a much larger set of ticking, scraping sounds. It sounds like there are literally 50 or so of these things right in your way, directly around the corner.
Knowledge: Nature checks to know what you're up against, if you're able.
| Freya Gilles |
Knowledge (nature) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
"'Safe' house," Freya spits in disgust. "'Just fight your way past the skeletons, Hellknights and swarms of Nethys-knows-what, and you'll be safe as can be.'" She draws her punching dagger and holds it in front of her defensively.
| DM J |
To more clearly describe the situation, you're in a larger room, but positioned at the entrance to an offshoot tunnel. The tunnel turns to the left at about the point where the dim light from Hardin's spell ends - so 40' into the hallway. It was in this last space where you saw the whatever-it-is skitter out of view.
As the group steels themselves for what lies ahead, a swarm of the skittering creatures moves into view at the end of the tunnel. There are roughly 45-50 of the things, all in a mass. It moves slowly, but methodically.
Going forward? Going down another hallway? Once two of you agree, I'll accept that course of action. Also, I have the marching order as: Hardin, Tao, Sarien, Freya, Rauno - anyone need to amend that?
