Freya Gilles |

Freya glares down the far corridor after the armored figures. directing the dancing lights to keep moving to stay ahead of those investigating, trying to get them to keep following until we have a little more wiggle room between them and the intersection

Freya Gilles |

There's 4 of them, correct? A woman and 3 men?
Freya shies away from Hardin's breath at her ear. "I'm making them all go down that corridor, if you hadn't noticed." DM, her plan is to let the pursuers get, say, 60 feet down the left-hand passage, or until they reach a bend in the tunnel, then slip around the corner and continue in the direction of the swordpoint marker. If they stop following her lights, she'll dismiss them and work from there. Do they have any lights themselves down here that they were hunting us by?

Rauno Redpath |
Without the spell, do we have any light down here, perhaps filtering through a sewer grate, or is it pitch black? If so, then Tao would be the only one who could see anything. I would say that once the soldiers are mislead far enough out of sight, we start moving down the tunnel with the markers. At that point perhaps Freya will illuminate things for us again.

DM J |

Light in the area is currently being provided by a sunrod held by the closest Hellknight Armiger, who is 30 feet from Tao. Tao is in dim illumination, as is Kael and Hardin. Everyone else is in darkness. Again, the current marching order is Tao, Kael, Hardin, Rauno, Freya, Sarien. If there are any changes to this, please let me know ASAP - I have a big update coming, but I need to know where you're all standing.

DM J |

First, I'm retconning something: Kael drew a dagger, not a longspear. I'm only retconning it because nobody mentioned any response to him having taken the original action. I don't mind when you guys (and gals) retcon things, but I try to avoid it as much as possible. In this case, it's needed to move us along.
As the party watches the group proceed down the opposite hallway, the relative silence is rent with a shrieking voice - Kael's!
They're back here, you idiots! About face!
Kael whips around and drives his dagger at Hardin, attempting to skewer the newcomer with a single blow.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 Hits Flat-footed AC 18
1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The dagger bites home, drawing blood from the surprised Cleric.
Initiative:
Freya: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Rauno: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Sarien: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Hardin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Tao: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Kael: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Armigers: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Initiative order:
Kael - 26
Freya - 23
Sarien - 22
Armigers - 8
Tao - 6
Hardin - 4
Rauno - 3
Kael takes advantage of the party's surprise at his trechery to wheel and strike at Tao, attempting to carve his way out of the party and toward his allies.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 (Hits Flatfooted AC 15)
1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The Druid's dagger punctures Tao right above the larger warrior's kidney, gushing Blood. Tao, however, remains standing.

Freya Gilles |

"Looks like you mistrusted the wrong man, street rat," Freya snarls to Sarien. casting daze at Kael (DC 13); Acrobatics check (Is Kael making these to avoid falling into the sewage too, hint, hint? ;) ) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
DM, can I hold my move action until I know whether Kael saves?

Sarien Ruseff |

Sarien's lips curl in anger as the druid betrays them all, but he says nothing. His hand darts to his waist and he pulls out a star knife and throws it in one, fluid motion.
Move action to draw star knife, Standard to throw.
Acrobatics Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 4 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Note: Since Kael is in dim light, there'd ordinarily be a 20% chance of a miss. Sarien's Shadow Child trait, however, means he won't suffer that.
Edit to ask: Since I can't possibly fail these acrobatic checks, do I need to keep wasting a dice roll on them? Also edited to include penalty for throwing into melee.

Freya Gilles |

Sensing that the treacherous druid shrugged off her spell, Freya spits an epithet and withdraws past Sarien deeper into the passageway. not far, just getting one more person between herself and danger :)

DM J |

Edit to ask: Since I can't possibly fail these acrobatic checks, do I need to keep wasting a dice roll on them?
No, you don't need to, unless there are some sort of modifiers that make failing possible, which there aren't currently.
Sarien's starknife comes to rest in Kael's arm, drawing another sharp curse and a burst of blood.

DM J |

The lead Armiger moves back down the tunnel toward the party, followed by the rest. He draws a crossbow as he moves and snaps a shot off at Tao.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (13) - 3 = 10
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
The armiger's shot sails into the shadows harmlessly. The armiger behind him also fires a shot off...
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
...which almost grazes the ear of the man in front of him before sailing high. The first armiger turns around and (presumably) glares dangerously at the second. The remaining two continue to move up behind the first two.
Map coming up, I promise!

DM J |

>>Map, Mid-Round 1, Kael's Betrayal<<
Tao's mighty blow crumples Kael where he stands - Kael's limp form slides quietly into the sewage trench, face down.

DM J |

>>Map, Mid-Round 1, Kael's Betrayal, Take 2<<
OK, that should work. I'll email it over, Sarien.

Rauno Redpath |
No guts, no glory! I believe it is a Acrobatics DC5 to get past each person, so here goes....
Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Moving past Hardin and Tao, Rauno charges straight up to the nearest Hell Knight and unleashes an intense flash of magic.
Color Spray. Will save DC 15 for the three closest; the fourth is out of the spray cone.

DM J |

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Rauno's flamboyant spell is artfully dodged by the lead Armiger, who leans to the side in order to allow his fellows to bear the full onslaught of the spray of colors.
The two middle armigers drop instantly to the pavement and slide into the refuse channel, stone-cold unconcious and extremely likely to drown in very short order (same goes for Kael, for that matter).

Freya Gilles |

Directing her energies against the lead armiger who avoided Rauno's effect, Freya points an intimidating finger at him as she intones arcane syllables. cause fear DC 14
EDIT: Forgot the Acrobatics roll again 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Freya Gilles |

Feeling her spell take hold, Freya's lips curl in a slight smile of satisfaction. "Take out the one in the back," she instructs the rest of the party, as she moves up behind Hardin, ready to move on quickly when the last pursuer is dealt with.

DM J |

1d20 ⇒ 13
1d20 ⇒ 18
1d20 ⇒ 13
1d20 ⇒ 20
The closest armiger, clearly in a state of great distress, immediately flees down the lefmost tunnel, moving as quickly as possible. (he ends in N-16, these guys are NOT fast)
Acrobatics:1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
Acrobatics{1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16
The remaining Armiger curses, steps backward (ending in I-12), pulls out a crossbow, and shoots at Rauno.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
1d8 ⇒ 7
The shot grieviously wounds the Wizard, catching him in the ribs. The Armiger cackles with glee!

Initiative 4
Hardin, not trusting his balance very much, just step down into the sewage, putting his first foot tread on the head of Kael while he does so, to see if he struggles.
He walks to the center of the intersection.
He then channels energy to heal Tau, himself and Rauno. It may (or may not) get Kael, if Kael is in any condition where it would hurt.
Next Up - Rauno

DM J |

Everybody, this is my fault, I should definitely have caught it before, but please remember that you're eating double movement when you're moving into a square that contains half-sewage, half-walkway - you are effectively Squeezing. This would have prevented Rauno's bravery last round, and Tao's big move this round. Tao's going to edit, he'll end up in O-12, and we'll live with my mistake in allowing Rauno's action. Hardin, you can't get to the intersection and still channel, although you can catch the whole party (and Kael) right from where you are now. Still want to channel?
Kael does not move when stepped on - he is unconcious, and a serious risk to drown in sewage.

![]() |

Hardin steps aside and touches Sarien's shoulder. "Iomedae's justice grant force to your arm." He then steps down into the mire and sewage, a look of visible distaste coming across his face as it pours into his boots, to let those who are more nimble of foot and faster in pursuit go ahead.
I'll move as close to the intersection as I can after buffing Sarien and staying out of the way.
(Battle Rage ability - the next attack Sarien makes will be at an additional +1 damage) Don't forget the +1 to hit from the Bless spell

Sarien Ruseff |

I am not going to be act again until later this evening: Sarien is not going to charge off after the lone remaining Arminger. However, assuming his turn comes up before the combat is resolved, he'll prepare to attack with his spear thrower.
Remaining where he is, Sarien draws a short spear and places it in his spear thrower, preparing to throw it at the Arminger.
That's a full round action, he can attack on the following round.

Freya Gilles |

Freya, if that's all you're doing, I think you can do it with a fair amount of care. I'll say no Acro check to squeeze by each other.
Hey, Rauno, I think you're all right, as long as all you were doing was moving.
Freya moves up double move to P12, making her way toward the passage leading to the safe house.
EDIT: The guy running away is the one with the sunrod, right? So we have a bit of light coming down the passageway from him as he retreats and Freya's leftover dancing lights down the lefthand passage behind the other guy as our only illumination now, right?

DM J |

1d20 ⇒ 11
1d20 ⇒ 2
1d20 ⇒ 19
Horrible wet slurping sounds continue to come from Kael and one of the two armigers laying unconcious in the refuse stream, although the other (the one currently in M-12) stops moving and making noise.
Sarien loads a shortspear into some type of contraption that seems engineered to launch the weapon.
>>>Map, Round 3, Kael's Betrayal<<<
(The D is the location of Freya's Dancing Lights spell.)
The armiger who fled continues to do so, but he does distinctly stop moving when he reaches N-20.
The female armiger with the crossbow squints into the darkness as she reloads her weapon, and fires off a shot at where she last saw Tao. As she does so, she screams, You slime! Get back here! I can't see a thing!
Attack: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2
The crossbow bolt skitters harmlessly off the pavement at Tao's feet.
