Save or Die vs Sleep Spells

Sleep is nerfed because it's a Save or Die situation, sure.

But, for the sake of Witches, Fey, Hags and such, what if Sleep were designed more like Invisibility, Suggestion and Time Stop; that is, you magically make someone asleep but if you do anything to "harm" him, he awakes and gets an Immediate Action "or something."

This way witches and Hags and certain Fey get their Fluff-background Sleep spells without creating Save or Die situations.

A PC can cast Sleep or Deep Slumber against the BBEG's mooks and just not deal with them until after the BBEG is dealt with -- or to sneak past the higher level NPCs they need to sneak past. (Maybe the new design includes a mechanic where, upon awakening, a character knows (DC 5 Perception?) he was magically put to sleep.)
