Hung Parliament means both Labour and Liberal must seek the support of independants and Minor Parties to take power and a simple mood swing of disatisfaction could see any Standing Government easily deposed and unstable at the best of times.

Last time one party won a single majority in the Swedish parliament: 1948.
Number of Swedish governments that have fallen due to internal squabbles since then: 3 - all during the 1979-1982 mandate period, and all quickly reformed with the same parties after some minister-shuffling.

My point: hung parliaments can actually be good for democracy, forcing politicians to work together to forge compromises instead of squabbling over petty details.

It may be good for Democracies, but Australia and all the other Commonwealth Nations have been dodging their responsibility to conform to a Process of Government whereby every Act of Government, Law, Constitution, and Sovereign requires the direct and regular Approval of every citizen. Its been embeded in our Legal system for almost a Century.

Canada's been dealing with them for the past 6 years or so (and 3 elections).
It just gives the politicians more excuses to do nothing but politic.

Counterwise, domination by a single party for a extended period is what really bad too.

Consider, George W. Bush was allowed to do as much damage as he did because of the Republican Party's six year domination of the U.S. Congress.
