IDW D&D Comic

Comics

For a DOLLAR.

Its a jump-off point for two titles: one regular D&D comic, and a Dark Sun comic.

I hate 4th ed with a passion, but I've been wanting a monthly dose of D&D in comic form for a while now. Here's hoping it lasts a while.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

And now the 1st issue is on the stands!

I really enjoyed the story. It's a bit of kitsch, a bit of humor, and a bunch of hack-n-slash, with a twist to boot!

All in all, pretty much what I wanted from a D&D comic book.

My favorite lines came from the Elf, Varis to the Dwarf, Khal:

Clever Dialog:
Amazing how everything good is Dwarven work. "This sword be flawless with magnificent detail. Dwarven work."

"These pastries be fluffy and filled with delicious custard. Dwarven work."

Go pick this one up!

Dark Archive

If nothing else, pick it up to see attack of the zombie orphans.

Issue three is out... and I think this continues to be a great D&D comic. The story arc is moving in a direction similar to a campaign arc... one thing leading to antoher thing, leading somewhere that wasn't initially thought of, with fights, traps, and character banter galore.

I've enjoyed several of the previous D&D comics over the years (particularly by Kenzer & Co.) but this one feels like reading about a good game.

I only glanced at the Dark Sun mini-series... it seemed good, and I kinda like that they printed it on the non-glossy paper for a change. It makes the desert seem more... arid, maybe?

I'm definitively getting this in trade. It's hard getting single issues to the middle of nowhere of Norway sadly :(

I've heard great things, and I'm a big fan of John Rogers (one of the creators of Leverage) and think he can write a plucky group of adventurers well :)

Dark Archive

Finally done. I have finally statted the whole group for Pathfinder.

I just read issue #4 and am loving this comic. I think this is probably one of the most entertaining comics that I buy each month.

John Rogers is establishing a clear voice for each of the characters. I loved the internal dialogue for Bree, the halfling rogue, as she disarms a trap in this issue. Andrea DiVito and the art team are doing a great job as well. The action is easy to follow and the characters (including the supporting cast) are distinctive and well designed.

And if you are worried about an overwhelming 4E tone - don't. While the last page of the comic has contained stats for the main characters, the story itself is rules agnostic. Pick this up even if you aren't a comic reader, as I think the quality of the series will make you a fan.
