A year into the series, the current DP is easily my favorite ongoing series put out by DC. Giffen take on the characters is dead-on, and the love he's showing for all of Doom Patrol's weird history is apparent on every page.

I have to agree. Giffen is great at taking a minor character/team and making them compelling, ala Justice League International, his run on Defenders for Marvel, and now Doom Patrol.
I believe Keith Giffen is largely underrated in the comic community, and deserves more recognition for what he's done than he seems to get from comic fans. His work as a whole is consistently solid and a very good read (With the exception of his "Heckler" series back in the '90s. Not sure what he was thinking, there...) regardless of his subject matter or the characters he's working on.
YMMV, as I'm a bit of a Keith Giffen fanboy.
