For reasons you find hard to fathom, you find yourselves exploring a ruined temple. Along the way, the signs that some hideous ritual is under way have been hard to ignore and now you find yourselves face to face with the perpertrators.

A heavily cloaked figure raises bloodied hands from the lifeless corpse on the altar and chuckles horribly, drawing the attention of his cohorts to your intrusion.

Two of the black clad hooded figures wield blood-stained longswords that flicker with infernal fire, while the remaining two are clear practioners of the necromantic arts. Clutching the bones of earlier victims, they turn to attack.

Things to note:
Round things to the west (left edge) are statues. They're big and they provide cover.
The platforms are variously 5 feet (one square) or 10 feet (two squares) high. Climbing onto them costs no extra movement if you use the conveniently provided stairs, but costs one extra movement point per level if you don't.
The blood on the floor is fresh, slippery and constitutes difficult terrain.

Please place yourselves on the map within the shaded area (no significance at all other than to mark a starting place) and roll initiative.

Before anyone else can react, the burly hobgoblin moves with astonishing speed to engage one of the necromancers.

Start in B5. Speed of Thought (free action on rolling initiative, move 9) to loop around to C11. Init. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Before the villains have time to do more than cackle murderously, the nearest necromancer finds himself nose to nose with an outraged and vengeful hobgoblin.

Peasant - I use Fractal Mapper. It's fairly intuitive and it's fast. I'm not the most technically savvy person in the world and it does far more stuff than I've worked out yet. I load the basic unadorned version into Flickr and add monsters and pcs as text.


Question for Rev:
Is the blood in I9 going to prevent me from stepping into that square on my turn? I have 5 squares of movement and I just want to make sure the blood won't require more to step into w/o sliding all over the place or anything. Thanks :D

Darion - the blood is difficult terrain, which means it costs 2 movement points to enter each square.

Norrin - 56 damage? Bloody hell.

Norrin takes the removal of body parts seriously and shows his extreme displeasure with two well-placed and horribly wounding arrows.

The necromancer eases away from the onslaught and risks an attack from Lyan in the interests of summoning some support. Bones rise from the floor. Most of the ungrateful dead attack Norrin, but three of the warriors focus their attentions on the runepriest, sensing his healing powers and hating him for them.

Lyan - please make an OA v Necromancer 1 for having the temerity to use a ranged area attack next to you.

If I'm not mistaken, it's more like 86, for the two attacks. Also, if I read it right, N1 is quarry but not marked. I assume this below.

Lyan instinctively lashes with his flail as the necromancer casts his spell, then, more consideringly, declares his intent for the latter. "You will fight me," the hobgoblin says coldly. He then steps up the stairs and sets about the undead, smashing into two of the skeletons.

Urf. You're right. Norrin bloodied Necromancer 1 with a single attack.

The battlemind's concentration slips as the necromancer eases past him and his attack narrowly fails. Promising further retribution in the near future, he turns his attention to the waiting undead and removes two of them.

Lowering his head in prayer as he steps closer to the hooded figure, Darion's sword begins to glow faintly. Stopping short and raising his sword toward the figure, he shouts a challenge.

"Come at me vile wretch!"

Minor Action: Bless Weapon
Effect: Gain a +1 power bonus to attack rolls, and deal 1d6 extra radiant damage on a hit. In addition, you can score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20 against creatures vulnerable to radiant damage.

Move Action: Put me at H9 please.

Minor Action: Divine Challenge
If the target is undead, it takes 4 radiant damage from the challenge.
If the target attacks someone other than Darion it takes a -2 attack penalty and 14 radiant damage.


Darion invokes Pelor and moves purposefully to engage the Shade.

At this point, no :) I'll always tell you if something is vulnerable to a damage type if it's hit with that damage type.

The archers and bone warriors are undead. For the others, you can run Nature checks on the necromancers and warlocks and Arcana or Religion on the Shade for further identification as a free action.

Got that Lyan. Will amend and update.

Darion, you're quite right and I do apologise. It missed. Please take back 23 hp worth of damage.

Standard Action - Binding Shot, 1d20+19=27 vs SA AC, 1d20+19=25 vs N1 AC, 1d10+1d8+11=27 damage and if both attacks hit, slide N1 5 squares through the flames to O6, and each target is bound by vines (save ends). Until this effect ends on a target, that target can’t move by any means to a square that isn’t adjacent to the other target. When a target makes a saving throw against this effect, the target can take 10 damage to gain a +5 bonus to the saving throw. Sorry this is a very verbose power.

Levana draws back on her longbow and unleashes an arrow that if it strikes true should create a viney situation for the two intended targets.

Move Action - Shift to C2

On a miss, Levana may invoke either Elven Accuracy or Inevitable Shot. she'll decide after seeing the outcome.

He then charges to B10, making a melee basic attack at Necromancer 1 with one of the enhanced claws on his Feral Earthhide armour.

Standard Action: As part of the action used to attack, Norrin quick draws his axe and swings with Twin Strike.

Special: Relentless Reincarnation: Rechargeable (4,5, 6). Necromancer summons a bone warrior on the corpse of up to three dead non-minion allies.


Levana's arrow sings across the chamber, sprouting vines that bind the Shade and necromancer together.

Both attacks hit. Necromancer takes 2d6=6 fire damage as it's pushed through the flames.

Norrin explodes in a frenzy of blows, reducing the Necromancer to a barely walking being.

Shifting away from the half-orc, the N1 conjures forth more undead to surround Norrin and Lyan.

Bound to his master, N2 does the same, surrounding Levana.

As a free action, when N1 shifts, shift to C11 with Blurred Step. Going to assume B9 is still somewhere next to me.

Lyan, pursuing the wounded necromancer, invokes a deadly set of nightmares, affecting all enemies around him. The hobgoblin becomes substantial again, all the better to menace the antagonists.

Nightmare Vortex, close burst 1, vs N1, B8, B9 AC 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 351d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 181d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 361d10 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Crit vs a minion, oh, well. 9 to N1, B9. Here's the important part:

Lyan - please check that I have your effect correct in the init list. It looks to me as if you're saying power only affects a creature targeted by the power, not any creature that moves within 3 squares of you?

The hobgoblin's attack wipes out two more undead, but amazingly the Necromancer survives the onslaught.

Reverse, I think -- that was the misreading. Here's the original text:

"Until the end of the encounter, whenever an enemy starts its turn within 3 squares of you, you can slide the target 1 square as a free action."
So, by my reading, it's any enemy triggers it, but the slide is the original burst target(s).

Also, I should have hit N1 and B9, but not B8.

I'm using IE at the moment, but I have Firefox and may well switch back. I did have a handy-dandy thing that did something very similar (and might even be the same) but I managed to lose it in the transfer to the new computer. Thanks for the link :)
