That was the last of the spiders we could see, as far as I understand.
Canvy, moves forward into the chamber from where the spiders came, he enters looking into the room for more beasts and to see if this is safe for Crommard to take a look round. His falchion, ready n his hands to beat off any beast that may challenge him. "Tiana, can you do a quick check for any traps, I don't think we'll find any. These spiders would have triggered most I would think, but its best be safe than sorry."
Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 looking for dangers in the room, taking particular note of the ceiling.
Broccan Dunchad
(Broccan steps into the room cautiously, ready to swing at any other spiders that might drop from the webs. If nothing else attacks, he will retrieve his javelin and motion the others to enter.)
"There'ssa mess'o webs all ov'r. Iss gonna take time t'clear'em unless we burn'm, annat migh'd'stroy som'n unnerneath."
Canvy Mandrain
|
@Broccan, then @Tiana "It's best we stay together when we take down those webs, best let Edrukk join us, I'm sure Tiana won't be far behind finding things in the webs that might be useful to us all...eh Tiana?"
As they walk over to the area where the webs are, he turns and says "Be careful the rest of you, shout if you need us for anything, but keep clear until we've removed all the webs."
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"C'mon, lass." (Referring to Erine) "C'n ye watch 'r backs?" With that, he will move forward and use the greatsword to reach up and break the webs as near the ceiling as possible so they can be pulled out of the way.
"'s t' bad we dinnae 'ave a fire spell among us, eh?"

Canvy seeing Edrukk look like he's about to fall down a hole, stretches out a hand to pull him back. "Edrukk, here!"
Reflex Save to aid Edrukk 1d20 ⇒ 20
Or me if I need to make a save for this.....I'm back tomorrow morning now. Have fun! Don't let Canvy slow you down.

suspect the door was chewed through by rats, then the spiders moved into the room and had been living here on rats for quit some time.

That sound you hear is gravity suddenly taking hold of an armored dwarf.
Black Tom
Edrukk:
You are too late to save Edrukk, but you can hear him and vice versa.
Edrukk Thorvirgun
BT:
Oh! Missed it by that much!
The crashing comes to a sudden stop and you quietly hear what you assume is a prayer... but it might have been a muffled curse, too.
Black Tom
Edrukk:
Edrukk Thorvirgun
Edrukk is heard casting a spell before he speaks up the shaft, "Bah! Th' only way outta 'ere looks like up th' chute! C'n ye drop me th' end o' a rope?"
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"I didnot bringin a rope, I can send downa blanket so hes a least comfortable fer tha time bein!"
"Keep yer blanket, I dinna plan t' be 'ere 'at long!"
BT:
Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 +2 when examining the door (stonecunning)
Edrukk Thorvirgun
The dwarf's voice comes up through the pit trap. "I'm fer bein' 'n a small room 'bout 30' below ye, I reckon. There's a orc skeleton questionin' me dwarven-hood 'n a throne, but 'e dinnae seem t' be interested 'n doin' more 'an talkin' 'n I dinnae know 'is grunts fer words. 'n me left 's I fell through, 'ere be a stairway, but I were t' slow t' get 'ere afore it were sealed off. I still be searchin' th' room fer anythin' I c'n use t' get out o' 'ere."
"What're ye findin' up 'ere?"
Broccan Dunchad
"We cou' make'arope from'r belts, bucklin' one t'th'end ofanother."
(Broccan unbuckles his belt and begins unfastening his scabbard and pouches from it.)
Canvy Mandrain
|
Canvy looks a Broccan taking his belt off, remembers his embarrassment at the Inn and decides the better of it, "What you doing Broccan, do yourself up, there are ladies present. it's never gonna hold Edrukk!! If we've all got blankets, we might be able to knot them together in a rope and pull Edrukk up. An what's this about stairs, you got delirious down there."
Quietly Canvy asks Tiana, "You couldn't study the trap and it's mechanisms, see if you can find anything that might open up those stairs Edrukk has supposedly seen?"
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"Dinnae worry 'bout me jus' yet. I'm fine 'n searchin' fer 'n exit."
BT:
If he finds nothing of interest, he will study the block that slid across the stairway to see if he can find a way of returning it to its original position. Or if he can determine what triggered its original motion. If he can take 20, he will, as he appears to have time. Otherwise, here are some rolls:
Perception (Stonework bonus): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Perception (Stonework bonus): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Perception (Stonework bonus): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Perception (Stonework bonus): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Where is the exit to the chute in this room? In the ceiling? Coming out of a wall?
Broccan Dunchad
"This bel'tiss good leathern'brass, Cap'n. Iss no diff'rnt'n thana saddlegirth, far as I can see. Ifit can holda'knight'narmor onna horse, it shou'be strong enoughta pull Mast'r Edrukk uptha slide. If we all have som'n similar, we shou' have near twenty feet. But, if y'prefer, y'can have m'bedroll. Ripitup'r tie together with som'n."
Black Tom
Edrukk:
The way I see it, you have two options: either you go back to the mine for some rope or you make an untrained Craft check to make some.
Edrukk Thorvirgun
BT:
Edrukk will spend his time trying to free himself first, then. Am I correct in assuming my greatsword is lying on the floor somewhere in my vicinity.
STR check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
If that allows me to get to my feet, I'll pick up my holy symbol/weapon and cast Detect Magic, especially on the altar, the throne, the skeleton, and the spear. If not, I will try again at the next opportunity.
Broccan Dunchad
Oh what the heck. Here goes...
(Broccan attempts to fashion a rope from his bedroll and/or whatever else anyone is willing to contribute)
"I'm gonna try'n make som'n t'throw down t'Mast'r Edrukk."
Untrained Craft Check (Wis): 1d20 ⇒ 13
Black Tom
It takes Broccan some time to make the rope safe but he manages eventually. In the meantime Edrukk extricates himself from the webs and explores the chamber. There is no magic down there except a faint lingering aura on the skeleton's head. On top of the oval altar is painted the image of an eye.
Finally you get Edrukk out of there and can continue to explore the dungeon.
In the meantime Crommard (and the rest of you) have ascertained that the doors are false. They bear the inscription: "The tomb of Mondru the Conqueror" in Orc. Crommard says that Mondru was a renowned orc chieftain. He insists to climb down and examine the orc skeleton, but he finds nothing of interest as he does so.
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"Thank ye fer gettin' me back outta th' 'ole. Odd t' 'ave false doors fer a crypt -- jus' t' bait folks int' droppin' down th' 'ole, I'm guessin'. But where be th' real crypt? 's 't 'n 'is room, I wonder?"
Do we get xp for dealing with the trap? (Hey, falling through is dealing with it - we each do things in our own way...)
Broccan Dunchad
"Th'spiders migh'be som'n we can sell to'an alch'mist back'n town. I have some sacks in my pack we could put'm in. We couldalso jus' cutoff th'fangs an' web-sprayin' parts an' leave the bodiesn'legs. Sanstree, are y'familiar enough with spiders t'know if i'could be done?"
Broccan Dunchad
(Broccan will attempt to remove the fangs, poison sacs, and spinneret from one of the spiders. Hopefully Sanstree will provide guidance for the process.)
Survival Check:usual check for animal skinning/gutting, correct?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
(Assuming success, Broccan will do the same with the other spiders, wrap the parts in the remains of his bedroll, put the wrapped bits in one of his empty sacks, and put the sack in his backpack for transport.)
Broccan Dunchad
"P'raps we shou'lookinna room cross th'hall 'fore we vench'r deep'rin. We dinna
wan'som'n gett'n us from behind."
(Broccan cleans his dagger and sheathes it, then picks up his shield. He turns toward the West passage, looking over his shoulder to see if anyone follows.)
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"Sounds fine t' me, Broc lad."
Quietly to Crommard, "Perfesser, 'at's 'at symbol on th' altar fer meanin'? Did th' skeleton talk t' ye, too? What did 't say?"
Broccan Dunchad
(Javelin in hand, Broccan approaches the western passage, and cautiously looks into the area.)
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 4
