Canvy moves to attack the summoner, yet as he moves the one Canvy becomes 2 Canvys, with falchions raised they bring them down in a single stoke.

Canvy strikes the summoner a vicious blow with his falchion, and then Broccan hits the reeling orc again. He is dead before he even hits the ground.
The mound of earth grunts and sinks back into the ground. You are victorious. And you all get 300 xp and a hero point each, the latter including Goat.

"Crommard...I sees magic in yah, I been wantin tah learn tah be a wizard, Ive even a book and components fer it if ye would but show me thah way!"
Santree moves toward the summoner casting detect magic
"Imah knowin this one had magic an maybe a clue tah how itsa werkin"
Erine Wintyle
After a few seconds of relief as the orc falls, Tiana glances around, then shrugs, sheathes her rapier and proceeds to check the orcs for valuables (or food).
Erine hurries to Goat and hugs him. "Goat, I didn't cast that spell so you'd attack the first thing in our way!"
She looks up at the glowing figure. "Be at rest, spirits." The figure vanishes.| Edrukk Thorvirgun |
As the earth creature sinks into the ground the oversized dwarf's shoulders sag with weariness and he leans on his greatsword, point down.
"Gather 'round, all. I 'ave a bit more o' Gorum's blessin' t' share wit' ye 'is day. After 'at, I'm afraid I'm not good fer naught but restin'."
As he says this, he moves away from the prone orcs so they are not included in the effect. Once everyone in the party is within 30 feet, the dwarf will intone, "Gorum, we brin' glory t' ye 'n battle 'n ye 'ave seen us victorious 'is day. Wit' yer blessin', we will be bringin' ye more glorious battle 'n th' days t' come."
A wave of energy flows from the massive sword. As it reaches you, you hear the distant sound of sword on shield, of cries of victory, of screams of the defeated.

Reinvigorated after the healing wave passes over him, Edrukk looks around as the effects of his spells wear off and he shrinks down to his natural stature. "'at's it fer me. 'r we goin' t' be settin' up camp 'ere 'r do we retreat t' th' minin' camp fer th' evenin'?"
Sheathing his sword, he will walk around the courtyard, examining the stonework and looking for anything that might escape the casual observer such as secret doors. He won't enter any of the openings in the courtyard walls, but he will peer into them with his darkvision before moving past each one. Please roll for him as necessary, BT. +2 Perception, +2 bonus from stonecunning where appropriate

Canvy, exhausted from the fight, moves to the dry well and sits on the stone there, resting on his falchion. Taking an old rag, caked in dried blood, he proceeds to clean as best he can the fresh bright red blood dripping down his blade. With his heavy eyes, a blue steel gaze following Edrukk, Canvy takes his waterskin and rasies it in the air taking a long lasting swig. The aroma of a sweet alcoholic beverage wafts on the air.
When Edrukk returns, Canvy speaks "Thanks Edrukk, I thought my story was told then, but fortunately your god was benevolent. Here have a swig of this, it'll revive you." he says passing Edrukk his waterskin. Canvy continues, "Did you see anywhere where we might put up for the night, I think we are all done in and low on magical aid and assistance. If worst comes to the worst, we can lay up in the entry rooms used by those archers, just need to make sure we have a good watch again and rest. We can continue again in the morning, but I don't think it's safe to go and return, better to stay quietly here. What say you?"

The orcs carry little of value, apart from their weapons. You manage to scrape together 27 gp. The old shaman on the other hand is wearing a nice embroidered cloak, a strange vial with something that looks like mercury, and a scroll, as well as a pouch containing 75 gp.
There are many openings around the citadel, but just as Edrukk starts to look around you are interrupted by a shrill chattering coming from the far left corner of the courtyard. A small band of kobolds emerge, obviously upset and chattering something in Draconic.

"Can we go about this one without killing anything?" Erine asks wearily. "I don't think we should kill more things until we get the chance to rest. I know Draconic, and I've met some kobolds, maybe we can reason with them."
She walks towards the kobolds, Goat trotting alongside her. When she is within 15 feet of the lizardmen, she starts yapping in Draconic. She sounds a lot less nervous when she speaks in this tongue.| Broccan Dunchad |
(to everyone in the group, face turned away from the kobolds.)
"I din'know wha'she's sayin', but I heard tales'at kobolds'r sneaky. We bes' be ready t' fight again."
(Turning back towards the kobolds, Broccan attempts to discern any duplicity from the kobold's body language and tone of voice. He casually retrieves his javelin and keeps it in hand, resting the butt on the ground.)

Given the opportunity, Edrukk will cast Detect Magic on the orcs' gear.
Seeing the kobolds, Edrukk will stop what he's doing, cross his arms, and watch. "D' any o' ye speak 'eir language?" He makes a point of not reaching for his weapons.

Edrukk is relieved to hear the kobolds do not have any intention of attacking. He continues his search around the room.

Returning to the well, he declines Canvy's proffered waterskin, "Thank ye, lad, but no." Listening to Canvy's suggestion for camping in the archers' room, Edrukk nods, "Aye, 'at's not a bad idea 't all. We c'n use 'eir own defense ag'n 'em if'n 'ey come back."

(to Erine)
"Askin see ifen thar are more orcs an about tha best place tah camp, invite them fer food iffin they be hungry."
"They said we killed 'all the big bad orcs'. But, um, I'll ask them about the other things." Erine nods and turns back to the kobolds.
"Also, we are going to eat soon. We have not much, but we would be willing to share our food with you if you hunger. I am sure our food is less than you deserve after all your trials, but it is undoubtedly better than what the orcs gave you in their foolishness."

Canvy seeing the strange young gnome talking with the kobolds call over "An' remember to ask if there are any safe places to stay and sleep for the night. Somewhere we can make a camp. See if there's and food and DRINK left anywhere. Ta Erine would be really helpful. Me old back could do with a nice soft and safe place to eat."
To Edrukk, Canvy says, "Maybe we'll have a more comfy and spacious place to sleep than those kill rooms, let's hope Erine gets a result".

Goat looks at him condescendingly. At least, it seems condescending.
Erine doesn't look away from the kobolds, who she is still smiling at benevolently. "Goat, do you suppose that human is deaf, or does he just selectively ignore certain comments so that he can repeat them and think himself shrewder? Because I could have sworn the druid already mentioned asking about a campsite. Not to mention him already asking whether we could offer the kobolds food, which any fool would take as an indication that we have enough already."Nothing personal. :P

"'ey 'r orcs, lad. Comfy 'n spacious 's somethin' 'ey dinnae know."
He walks over to Tiana to look at what she's found on the bodies. "'ave ye found anythin' interestin', lass?" He takes a moment to cast Detect Magic on the items.
If it hasn't been done, he will move around the courtyard collecting crossbows and crossbow bolts, bringing them back to wherever the rest of the items have been collected.

(to Erine)
"If y'sayso, wee-lass. We cameso close t'dyin' I'm jus'a bit wary."
(to the kobolds, with both hands raised and empty- a little loud and slowly in carefully enunciated Common.)
"NO. OFFENSE. INTENDED. LADS. WE. MEAN. YOU. NO. HARM."
Black Tom
The orc's items are all magic (the cloak, the vial and the scroll. All have faint auras. To know more you need to make a Knowledge (arcana) check.
The kobolds say something in Draconic: [spoiler]We just want to get away, o saintly lady. There are more orcs that went down the stairs and we don't want to be here when they come back. We wish you luck in your adventures and may there always be peace between you and us children of the scale. May the great dragon shield you with his wings.{/spoiler]
With that they skitter off unless you stop them.

Canvy watches as the little ones run off.
He turns to Erine, "So where did those little ones say we'd be safe tonight and what did they say about any threats we may face? I didn't understand a word those little reptiles said. You got good intelligence off them before you let them go, yes?
Sanstree
Sanstree assumes Erine will at least tell goat what the kobolds had to say.
"Seems tah me tha the stairs should be secured first an tha way in better"
"I suggest tha casters an clerics re-new tha magical energies tha might be needed fer the comin o tha orcs"
"I meself trust in Broccans might tah protect me in this hour o meditation"

Canvy looks over to Sanstree, his piercing blue eyes looking deep into Sanstree's soul. "At the moment lad, the only safe place we have is the rooms those green 'uns took pot shots at us from, on the way in to this citadel. So if you're gonna be safe, be safe in there. There's only one entry we have to secure and keep lookout from.
But before we do that, we need to tidy up out here, leaving them dead 'uns for any carrion eater to find, is a sure way of attracting unwelcome visitors. C'mon lad let's get them outta here and secured away in a hole or something. Edrukk, Broccan over here lads, let's remove these and the others outside the citadel and we don't want them coming back either in the stomach of some vicious predator or as some reborn vengeance seeker. Tiana, when you finished searching them bodies, can you take Erine and her animal to check out them rooms they used to greet us, make sure one of you keeps a lookout over the interior, whilst we get rid of these bodies. Take Crommard with you and look after him, we need him to help us further.
Tiana, you finished searching them bodies, so we can take away? Com'n then set to lads, we haven't got all day."
These words were spoken, expecting to be obeyed, there was a command in his voice, a throwback to the days before. His body seems more erect, his head held higher, his actions sharper, his motions more definite. He appears to be at home, in this more organized post battle situation. Marching with gusto towards the dead bodies, organizing and acting, Canvy seems in his element.

Edrukk is not eligible to regain spells until morning, as I suspect is the cast for Sanstree.
Edrukk looks at Canvy evenly while he's giving orders. After a moment's thought, he heads out into the hallway and starts dragging the dead out toward the entrance.
Erine Wintyle
"What were 'ey sayin', lass? 'r we gonna be able t' camp 'ere t'night?"
"They just wanted to leave. We should be able to camp here, but they had no advice. They probably know little of these parts, anyways."
She didn't relay it to Goat, actually.| Broccan Dunchad |
(Broccan assists in the disposal of the orc corpses. Once the grisly work is done, he waits for the group to reconvene from their various tasks so that a decision can be made on where to set-up camp.)
Black Tom
As Broccan goes about his grisly task, he finds a number of human bodies on the slope down into the sea, members of the original expedition that obviously had been killed by sword blows.
In the meantime you are hailed by a young boy who appears in one of the openings on the other side of the citadel. He waves uncertainly and asks whether all the orcs are gone.
Sanstree
Sanstree puts his meditation on the mysteries of nature on hold and approaches the other young boy
"Tis a young adventurer come tah join us! Well met young adventurer, tha orcs tha were here are bein draged an gotten rid o....we are preparin tah stay fer tha night an get rid o tha rest o them in tha morn."
"Are ye interested in some food?"
Black Tom
"Alex!" Crommard exclaims. "You're alive!" "Yeah, but just barely", Alex pouts, "and all because of this stupid expedition. Who ever heard of collecting orcish pottery? Well, it was lucky that we did collect as much as we did, because I was napping behind the sacks as the attack came and they never found me. [To Sanstree:) I would gladly take that food if you got it."
Sanstree
Sanstree unpacks 2 days worth of rations and will use create water to offer Alex both food and drink
"Alex! did yah happen tah find an orcish cup tha yah can drink from?"
"I have this food fer yah an can make yah some water."

Canvy aids Edrukk and Broccan in the 'tidy up' operation, including saying words over the dead, to send their souls to Pharesma. He stays after the others leave to go through his own ritual to the mother, returning to the party to make ready the safe area for sleeping.
Canvy will regain spells tomorrow morning too.
Broccan Dunchad
What time of day is it when we finish burying the dead? I imagine digging a dozen or so graves might put us either close to nightfall, or even in to full dark when all's said an done.
"We bes' decide soon where t'camp. If other orcs'r still inside, they might be abit mor'active inna dark."
Black Tom
You can only retrieve a few of the bodies. Most of them have been dragged out to sea by some kind of creatures. Crommard fusses a lot about the burials, but Alex just shrugs. "It's too late to do anything meaningful for them."
You do need to decide where to spend the night, though.
Black Tom
Tiana's examination of the various rooms around the citadel turns up a good deal of equipment, like daggers, hand axes and spare boots, all orcish in origin according to Crommard. You also find the six crossbows tossed aside.
Crommard's stuff is also recovered, but much of his clothes has been slitted open and all valuables removed. He's happy to be able to recover some of his books, though.
In another room you find a spear that appears to be newly manufactured and unused. The head of the spear bears some runes in Orc.
The dry well is more of a cistern as it turns out. It is about 60 feet deep and its floor is covered with a layer of sand.
Edrukk Thorvirgun
In another room you find a spear that appears to be newly manufactured and unused. The head of the spear bears some runes in Orc.
An unused weapon in an orcish citadel seems unusual to the dwarven cleric. He wonders if there's not another reason the spear seems to fresh and casts Detect Magic on it. "Crommard, would yer learnin' of orcs mean ye c'n read 'eir scribblin'? What's 'is say?"
If we are remaining within the citadel, the only thing I've heard mentioned that seems reasonable is the archer's room. Wherever we end up, he fully intends to bring any weaponry we've found along lest it be used on us later.
"Tiana, did ye find a better place t' be campin' 'an th' archers' nest?"
"Do any o' ye know of magic 'n magic items? I'm no student 'n I dinnae know 'ow t' know what somethin' is. 'ese items th' ol' orc was wearin' 'ave a magic about 'em, but I'm no able t' be tellin' ye what 'ey do."
When we settle in for camp, he will cast Detect Magic again and study each item for a few rounds to determine as much as he can. Knowledge (Arcana) and Spellcraft are both trained-only skills that Edrukk lacks ranks in. Perhaps next level.
