This is interesting. I generally look at CN as the "opt out" alignment (which to my mind is what Neutral should be). Surprising that CN is so popular and N is so unpopular. Actually it's surprising that ALL the epitomic alignments are the least popular.

I'm not sure using the alignments people prefer is could for the spread. That'd be like the statistics for education in imaginia saying that every one has average iq 200, how did they test it, everyone was asked what they'd like to have.

I gave them descriptions of what each alignment represented...and asked them the Aligmnment that represented them/they prefered. Can I help it if the D&D playing people who frequent Polls like that are serial killers?

52/96 exhibit neutral alignment tendancies. Frankly that is like Nazi Germany. THe sort of look the other way and ignore it culture that we all feared has come to pass.

I like polls to generate alignment spread in D&D communities...it fels more real.

Interesting. I have a random alignment generator as part of my NPC generator spreadsheet, but no poll was involved. I assigned percentiles based on observation. My spread was WAY different from yours! I think people tend toward neutral, but good outweighs evil for the general populace. Call it optimism if you will.

I made the assumption that only "broken" people are truly evil and would fall into the roughly 5% of the population that could be classified as psychotic or sociopathic. Even they were weighted toward lawful, since most manage to live within the bounds of society for fear of reprisal. So my LE/NE/CE percentages were 3/1/1.

I also counted good as actively good. Do no harm is not good in my eyes, it's neutral. My good group totaled about 15%.

I wonder how accurate people are at self-assessing their alignment.

But then again a 27% any Lawful doesnt fill me with hope - it screams minority ruling class imposing its authority on the disaffected many.
