[4E] "Curses" PbP recruitment

Gamer Connection

I'd like to see if anyone would be interested in playing a module I wrote myself called "Curses". Below are the details...

Premise: This is a one shot 4E adventure for five, 7th level characters. Recruitment will be first come first serve and I will keep in mind alts, but I will need to approve the character concept before you're in for sure. Although it is a one shot, if people want to continue to play more once the adventure concludes then that is also a possibility.

Setting: Points of Light; Nentir Vale (only slightly modified). This adventure has been written by me and is totally complete and self-contained, with options to expand depending on how it plays out.

Style: Probably a 50/50 balance in combat/role-playing with variations in-between. It kind of depends how the party likes to play, as the adventure will have kick in the door moments that can be played out in a more subtle way if the party likes. The party will have a good degree of freedom to choose their path.

World-wise, it will be more mysterious and somewhat dark. Only small pockets of civilization exist, acting as "safe zones" in between the vast wilderness. The surrounding lands and forests of the world are wondrous, mysterious, and dangerous places, filled with strange creatures. Think along the lines of Legend, The Brothers Grimm, and Mirror Mask, to name a few.

Races: Generally I’d like to stick to the more conventional races, but if you have a good concept involving a stranger looking race, then I can make exceptions.

Classes: Any combination of all classes are allowed, I’ll leave party balancing up to the party itself.

Ability Scores/Equipment: Standard point buy per PHB, standard wealth for 7th level characters (1 8th level magic item, 1 7th level magic item, 1 6th level magic item, and any extra money can be spent towards whatever you wish). Can take as many non-magical items as needed, within reason of course, I don’t wanna see “Galleon” in your item list…

Background: A short 1 to 2 paragraph background is acceptable since this is a one shot. The party is considered to have been together for a decent amount of time, so you can work together with backgrounds, and you will start the adventure knowing each other. As far as character backgrounds to select, any are fine with the exception of Forgotten realms or Eberron.

Alignment: For the most part and for party cooperation I’d prefer good aligned or Unaligned characters.

Rules: Pretty standard stuff:
· Try to post at least once a day, although I’m not going to be a nazi about it, but if you are unable to post any kind of notice would be appreciated. If needed or if you do not post within a 24-48 hour window, I can/will run your character for you.
· For your characters, create an alias and detailed information for your stats/bonuses/powers/items so that in case I need to run your character, I can do so fairly easily.
· Pantheon will be core deities, although if there is a deity you really like outside of the core ones, I can make exceptions for this as well.
· This adventure will be pretty no-holds barred (since it’s a one shot), so expect the monsters to behave appropriately in respect to downed opponents and such. If a character dies, then that’s it, but I am more then happy to work in a replacement for the dead character ASAP.
· In combat it’s ok to go out of order if your turn is coming up; any retro rulings will happen for immed interrupts/reactions or if I happen to miss something. I do plan to run the monsters realistically as far as actions, so that means intelligent monsters will tend to make logical choices in regards to status effects, choosing their targets when marked, etc, while less-intelligent ones will have more knee-jerk/instinctive reactions to effects, marking, etc. This is not a hard and fast rule, but will be the general behavor...but there are always exceptions...

About me: I’ve been DM’ing since I was 13ish (red box), now I’m 32 and still DM’ing, so I have experience, but this will be my first PBP game, hence the one shot adventure. I’d like to get my feet wet but not set up a massive campaign. I will be using maps for encounters so being able to access photobucket or some similar site will be necessary.

I’m always up for a good time and friendly, so if there are any issues in game (something I miss during combat or if you have any questions) let me know in game or you can send me an email to

Sounds good, Chozyn, let me know when you've got your concept together and character sheet. Do you have character builder? Let me know if you have any further questions.

I would like to start by next week if possible, but I am flexible.

I'll get it together tonight when I can get the books in front of me, but I'll play a Warlord. So anyone else who's jumping in can plan their chars.

Edited: Corrected errors lol

Me me me , pick me.

Would a minotaur charger(fighter)be to far off the mark?

Hmmm...I always like to say yes to characters, but I would need you to come up with a reason why a minotaur would be with the group, since it's a bit far out there as far as racial harmony and all that. But like I said, I'm flexible, but I would need your input to the "whys".

Either way, I choose you, pika-errr Xabulba.

I've been wanting to play a dwarven warlock for a while. And I'm unemployed right now, so time is in an abundance.

Well then here's your chance, Ghetto :)

The party so far:

TheChozyn-Warlord (unknown race)
Xabulba- Fighter (possibly minotaur)
Ghettowedge- Dwarven Warlock

My character is done. Shoot me an email - ghettowedge@yahoo.com - and I can send you the file.

Spoiler:
Z was born into a tribe of Baphomet worshipers living underhoof of their bestial savagery until his Budding Ritual, when a Minotaur’s horns first break through the skin.
Z was taken before Baphomet’s alter to either swear fealty to the Horned god or to be sacrificed on it.
Deep inside Z knew that his path followed the path of civilization and could never follow Baphomet. Not willing to be sacrificed the young calf ran away and fled into the sounding labyrinth leaving his former tribe behind.
Z was able find his way out of the labyrinth and into the even more dangerous underdark.
A band of Drugar slavers found and captured Z and used him as a beast of burden until his horns became too sharp and he managed to injure his handlers and attempt escape. It was during captivity he was branded on his snout with a Z mark and getting his name.
The Drugar recaptured Z and faced with the choice of killing or selling someone so dangerous they sold him to the Drow to fight in their gladiator games.
Z fought and won and was bought and sold many times passing from one Drow household to the next. The last time he was sold he escaped during transit to the new house.
After a long chase Z made it to the surface world and began following the setting sun. A few days later he wandered into a druid’s grove and was attacked as a wild beast. After Z easily beat the old druid, the druid begged to be spared. Z took kindness on the druid and took him back to his camp and nursed the druid back to health.
The two became great companions and defended the grove and local farmlands becoming well know in the region until old age claimed the druid’s life.
Packing his things Z once began to follow the setting sun until reaching the beginning of your game.

Is that good enough background to play a Minotaur?

Sounds good to me, Xabulba. It's not necessarily a question of it being good enough, but just as long as it works with your character and story, thats all :)

One of the reasons why I ask is because some of the more exotic or "monster" races will have a more difficult time in the human dominated settlements, so interaction with them could be difficult (but not impossible)
In the end I want you to have fun, so if it's something you want to try and are really behind it, then go for it, man.

I'm playing him as generaly level headed but with a anger problem. Nothing mske him madder than slavers.

Profile is up.

Oh, so tempted. Add me to the list, with the proviso that I'll step aside if someone in fewer games wants in (note to self - keep sticky hands away, not all 4e games need your presence.)

I have a half-elf wizard left over from a game of Pat's that died. I'd like to upgrade Rin.

Spoiler:

He was born with a silver-spoon in his mouth and is used to being liked. Slightly impulsive. Another of my chatty pcs.

Looks good, Ghetto, can you send me the character builder file? I'm not sure how much time you've got ghetto, but are you able to fill out more of your alias info as far as bonuses to hit/damage/etc in case I need to run him. A lot of the times I'm at work posting so I don't have immediate access to my usual resources.

@Rosey: I would love for you to play in my little dip into PbP games :)
Resurrect your wizard and he's in.

So far:
TheChozyn-Warlord (unknown race)
Xabulba- Minotaur Fighter
Ghettowedge- Dwarven Warlock
Rosey- Half-elven Wizard

I'm going to be human, will build my char tonight.

I'd like to join in, will start working on character, if you'll have me.

I sent it last night, but I'll send it again. Email me if you don't get it.

Oh, and I have lots of free time.

bmars3 wrote:

Of course, you're more then welcome to join. Do you have a character in mind or do you need some time?

Hmmm I'll have to double check, I was up pretty late last night, but I might have missed it.

Ghettowedge

Spoiler:
I think I caught your post before you changed it, but I figured I wouldn't mention it just in case. Good luck though, times are tough.

So with bmars3 that'll make five.

So far:
TheChozyn-Human Warlord
Xabulba- Minotaur Fighter
Ghettowedge- Dwarven Warlock
Rosey- Half-elven Wizard
Bmars3- not decided

From this point I'll start up the OOC discussion and link it, for any others who might be interested I'll be taking alts as well, so feel free to let me know if you're interested.

OOC Thread

I'm leaning striker, eladrin sorcerer or ranger, but I reserve the right to change once I start playing with the CB.

Be my guest, let me know if you have any questions about the campaign area or characters (for anyone for that matter).

[bump] - In case anybody else wanted to join, but couldn't see it.

Wait, you're still accepting players? In that case, willing to accept a human bard. A skald (the "official court poet" type, not the "compose poetry while he stabs you" type) from the north who has come here in search of his own tales to tell. (Well, that and his former employer went and supported the wrong side in a civil war, but that's neither here nor there.)

Sprry to barge in... but since there are several good coves in this thread I thought I would pose the following...

A Question for you all (or rather, several questions):

1) Do any of you play Savage Worlds? Or would you be interested in trying it?

2) If so, would you like to be a player in a PbP Savage Worlds conversion of Kingmaker?

3) If so again, would you be averse to it being played on Google Wave?

I know, it sounds like a niche of a niche, but it would be interesting to find out as I really want to run it.

Sure, Davi, I would love for you to play. I originally made the adventure for 5 players but I can modify it for 6 no prob. I like the basis for the background, go for it. I want to start this Wednesday if possible.

The Party
TheChozyn-Human Warlord
Xabulba- Minotaur Fighter
Ghettowedge- Dwarven Warlock
Rosey- Half-elven Wizard
Bmars3- not decided
Davi- Human Bard

I have to bow out, sorry.
My games I'm running and playing in would suffer if I took on another game.

Xabulba wrote:

Np, Xabulba, if you ever want back in just say the word and you can come back.

So the current roster is

TheChozyn-Human Warlord
Ghettowedge- Dwarven Warlock
Rosey- Half-elven Wizard
Bmars3- not decided
Davi- Human Bard

switching to defender, no problem

Although we are at 5 players currently, I
can accept one more, if anyone is interested.

Hello old chum :)

I'd like to get in on this (would be my first pbpgame)

I was thinking of re-creating Ouda La Ley either Ranger or Barbarian

Cool with me :)

I'm planning on starting today after I
get off work, can you have him finished
by then? If not I can work you into the
story at whatever point you finish.
The link to the OOC thread is up above
somewhere...
