Converting 3.5 warlock to Castles and Crusades

So how would you do it without it being too powerful? Do you keep invocations as is or would you have to damage? what about eldritch blast? do you lower the damgage? One of the theames of C&C is simplifing things. Invocations does not do this. Would just using spells in the C&C book be better or worst? certainly some spells are too over the top.

We are talking about converting th e 3.5 Warlock from Complete Arcane (?) to C&C, yes?

IMHO the main theme of the Warlock was that he was able to cast damaging spells over and over again (eldritch blast)
And use some spells to buff himself up or hinder other creatures.

First to balance the C&C Warlock against the other Spellcasters we have to somehow put a "price" on the ressource eldritch blast.
He might be able to use it 1+ Main Attribute bonus times a day "free of charge" but has to "pay" 1d4 hp drain each time he casts it after that.

Of course he would have to have good hp. 1d6 or even 1d8.

For the invocations you can create a small list of spells he can cast each day. Like the Cleric he would have to "meditate" to get the spells (although his spells are not divine and the source is not the gods).

you know I just started reading the Monsters and treasures book and I see how they limit the monsters abilities. For instance, A drider, a half drow/half spider being, can cast web only once per day!! Why?? Even with the rules being all light would it be overbalanced if the drider could cast web at will? If it would than a warlock would have to be far different. How about the eldritch blast only doing 1d2 + 1 every other level? or 1d4+1 every other level? The spells are almost the same as in the 3.5 (in fact they seem better because the wording does not put caps on many of them). Seeing that, I would think that most of the invocations would stay the same.In play the warlock's main weakness was lack of varity in spell abilities.

The beauty of C&C is that you can change things very easily. If you want driders to cast net at will, just let them do it!

you know I like the spirit of C&C, and I can see making some rules vague, but I think it's just plain sloppy not to have the few rules you do have to be solid. I see alot of these things pop up in C&C.
