Google Wave - Pathfinder game

Gamer Connection

I'm about to start running a Pathfinder game on Google Wave and I find myself looking for two additional players.
It looks like the game will be happening on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings, and I have extra invites for Wave so that won't be a requirement.
If you're interested, a brief character concept would be nice.

More detailed stuff:
-Characters will be starting at level 8, with epic build points (25) and 33,000gp worth of equipment.
-I'm using a houserule that is still being finalized that will result in you having built-in bonuses to replace magic items that just give you bonuses (Belt of Giant Strength, Boots of Elvenkind, Pearl of Power, +2 Armor, etc.). Those items still exist, they just don't stack with the bonuses you'll be getting naturally and loot will be significantly rarer than normal once the game starts.
-I try to run games with a fairly even balance of combat and non-combat.
-The setting is a fairly generic homebrew that has no major kingdoms - just several hundred small ones.
-You will be starting and spending the first several sessions in the kingdom of Thornvale, a northern mountainous kingdom that has experienced a run of bad luck and found itself beset on all sides by a multitude of threats, including goblins, undead, a haunted forest, a dragon, and a castle swarming with demons.
-The two current characters are a rogue skill specialist and a currently undefined character who, based on my knowledge of the player, will probably be at least a partial caster of some sort with considerable combat capability.
-Should you be selected for the game and not want to leave your wave address (or email address if you need me to send you a wave invite) in a post, you can email it to me at pfgame(at)rotania.com
-I have fairly extensive GM experience, but this will be my first online text-based game.
-Classes from the APG playtest are allowed, but must be cleared by me first (that means the entire concept cleared, not just "can I use this?")
-I'm in the Central time zone, so that will be our standard.

I'm definitely interested in this.

As for a character, honestly, I could make just about anything. I think a Paladin might be good with what you've got already, as a fighter type that can dole out healing to himself and others. But I could also break out a cleric if a more traditional divine caster is needed.

A Paladin would be fine, the skill specialist has a level of Bard so we shouldn't need a primary healer. The one condition if you go that route is that you lean towards the intelligent side of Lawful/Good rather than the fanatical, as both of the other characters are chaotic.

Send me an email at the address in the first post with your Google Wave name if you have one, otherwise I'll just reply to your email with a Wave invite. Then I'll add you to the pre-game wave so you can meet the other players and finish making a character.
EDIT: Also, leave a comment when you send the email so I know to look for it.

And to anyone else who may be interested: with Rokku thinking of a Paladin and my second player now confirmed as a slightly nerfed Abjurant Champion, we've got a pretty decent balance so you can probably play just about anything you want. We have no full casters, but with three secondary casters that's not a major problem.

Just a heads-up for anyone else considering this game, I have abandoned my divine caster ideas and jumped head first into Bard. I will be shooting things, performing classical plays, and casting spells.

Will this be a "live" game or a Pb wave. I would be in for the latter but don't have time to be available on specific evenings.

Live game. Sorry.

Live game. Sorry.

So, is it on all the days you mentioned, or one of them? Tuesday would probably work for me (assuming the game time is in the 6:30-9:30 range), while the others are more uncertain.

What approximate time will you be playing? Also, I'm Eastern time, so that's...what? 1 hour ahead of you?

Probably sometime in the 6 to 11 o'clock range for between 3 and 4 hours a session. And yes, Eastern time is one hour ahead - one of my other players is also in Eastern time.

Hmm...so PST would be 2 hours earlier, then?

That means I can get it, I think. I'm interested.
Can I play a goblin rogue? I have a shtick for monster races. If not a rogue, perhaps a ranger?
If ranger, I'd prefer a spell-less ranger from Kobold Quarterly, but a normal one would be fine.

Goblin specifically would be very hard to pull off, because a major plot point is that a large goblin army is menacing the countryside. You would have to be a very obviously good and noble goblin in order to pull it off, or have a ridiculously good backstory as to how you had proved your trustworthiness to the town.

Other monster races though, provided you're not evil, would probably be okay.

I am interested in this game and I have a google wave account. I am most interested in playing a human summoner.

Is there room?

There is potentially room. I'm going to close it for now - with you, Kobold Cleaver, and srd5090 (if he's actually interested) competing for the final spot. It'll come down to scheduling (We're down to Tuesday or Thursday evenings) and then who would work best in the party.

At this point a basic character personality description will be a lot more useful than race and class.

Alright, then I'll be a kobold, if that's okay. A kobold gunslinger, preferably. How do firearms work in your game?

So, assuming I'm accepted, do we already know each other?

Personality:

Spoiler:

He is always polite, but has a condescending air that bothers most. He speaks subserviently, calling others 'sir' or 'master', but sometimes he says it with just a little sarcasm. He thinks that he is always right, but always tries to ignore argument out of habit. He is very protective, though, and if he makes a 'friend', he will be happy to risk his life for them. However, he is actually completely self-serving and only does that sort of thing because he believes he is infallible.

Kobold is fine, firearms less so. Even if I was inclined to allow them, they'd be functionally almost identical to crossbows.
The characters will know each other, but only for a few days unless you want to work out a shared backstory with someone else.

I've put the choice up to my players now. Whichever of you doesn't make it in I will hang on to as an alternate in case someone drops out, though.

Alright, I guess I'll try something else. Maybe a blowgun, I've never used one of those before...

*Crosses fingers*

One of the current characters already uses a blowgun, so it would be truly hilarious for the two of you to be having accuracy competitions and talking about which darts work best.

Also, what class are you thinking of? It has been suggested that you play a Cleric, and in an odd twist we actually don't need one for healing but instead for Divine magic.

Hmm. Well, I was thinking of rogue, but then I remembered we already had a rogue. Can I be a fighter? We don't seem to have any tanks, and fighter fits him best.

I'm interested. But I should say that I'm a college student who is holding down a steady job most days of the week to support himself. I typically work 5 to 10 PM Eastern time, almost consistently. I'd still be interested in playing if the game starts around 9PM your time. Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to be the best days for me, because I am able stay up later than Mondays and Wednesdays.

As for character thoughts:

Bob Birdsong, human fighter. Father was a bard who traveled with Bob's mother, a fighter herself. Eventually their adventures together brought marriage and a child. Bob grew up learning to fight from his mother, his father being the more nurturing parent. His father taught him to be wary of the world around him, and that not all conflicts can be won by steel.

I could maybe go further, but if I would play something other than a fighter I'd have to come up with something else.

John Spalding has been selected as the fourth player.

Kobold Cleaver - if you want to send me an email so I have your email address on hand, I'll keep you as an alternate in case someone has to drop out or the game ends up being easy enough to run that I can take a fifth player.

srd5090 - the same goes for you, but you'll definitely be the secondary alternate because not starting until 9pm is pushing things a bit for me.

Dang...I thought you were after two PCs. Did you find a third player elsewhere, then?

Spoiler:
nikgeier@peak.org

I was looking for two. Rokku up there made it in as Player 3 before the competition for the fourth spot started.

Dang. I didn't know we were being selected by post order. Otherwise I would have posted sooner.

Not so much post order as post day. I signed in one day, saw Rokku, added him, then suddenly there were three people in rapid succession and I had to pick one. Normally I would have done an open window of "accepting character concepts for X many days, then I will pick two", but this game had been in the works for a while due to a three week holiday vacation and I didn't want to keep my current players waiting yet another week.

Ah, okay. Thanks anyways, and good luck with the game!
