"Hmm... for now, perhaps the elf should take it. You're right Olo... we don't need to trick the gods into providing their gifts. Abadar has already granted me the gift of healing. It is best to spread the gifts of the gods amongst those in our party."
I can already heal so you should take the wand.
Caelwyn

"Excellent" Caelwyn looks to Alerion, "Shall we try this again?"
Thovar Druskeden

Thovar picks up the pearl and inspects it.
Appraise check with Dwarven Greed bonus: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24.
Caelwyn

Caelwyn steps up to the pearl, and makes a grab for it, grinning.
Appraise 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Know(arcana) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 to see if Caelwyn knows of Pearls of Power... and if he does, he casts detect magic (being in the basement of a Wizards school and all...)
Edit: Ninja'd! Caelwyn will inspect from a distance. :P
Irked at the gloating look that Thovar seems to be giving him, Caelwyn sullenly mutters under his breath, "*grumble, grumble, grumble* ...dwarves ...sense of humor ...so short, all the jokes go right over their heads... *mutter, mutter, mutter* "
Thovar Druskeden

Dwarves are shorter, thus closer to the ground, thus it's easier for them to pick stuff up out of the gunk! :)
Thovar Druskeden
|
"This is worth quite a bit! I wonder...."
Thovar asks for a gift from Abadar: the ability to detect magic in nearby objects.
(I'm casting the spell.)

Thovar Druskeden wrote:Thovar's spellcraft check: 1d20+5Nevermind... I just checked and the DC is 32.
Will you be using the same marching order as before?
Yeah, I had to try and Identify one of 'these' in another game. I had to role really high and use an Identify spell to get it :). Sure, same order is fine.
Alerion starts moving on, scouting the areas ahead.
Stealth 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 +1 if I'm looking for traps.
Caelwyn

Caelwyn matches Alerion's movements on the other side of the flowing muck.
Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Stealth 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
...and proceeds to step in some poo. Sputtering and cursing, Caelwyn is too focused on cleaning his footwear to bother with anything as trivial as being quiet or keeping his eyes open for oncoming danger.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 (+2 for unusual stonework)
Stealth: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (17) - 6 = 11 (armor check penalties suck)
Levistus.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 lol, maybe he is secretly a rogue or something.
Levistus, unlike Caelwyn, seems adept at avoiding the 'hazards' along the path. The drab colors of the apprentice robes seem to almost blend into the surrounding stone walls. A smirk crosses his face as he comes upon a stinking pile of steaming excrement with a fresh elven footprint in the middle.

After about an hour trudging in the sewers, the tunnel widens out to 25 feet. With more space, the water here is only a few feet deep and relatively clean (no longer difficult terrain). As you continue along, Levistus and Alerion catch the echoing whisper of a conversation up ahead, and along with it comes the flicker of torchlight shining in the distance. The voices are still too distant to make out the words, but they have the resonating quality of the draconic tongue.
Levistus.
|
I'll assume that we are in what is now our standard scout formation with Caelwyn and Alerion leading by about 30' feet or so.
Levistus holds up his hand to signal for the dwarves to stop and for them to be quiet. In a low tone, "Do you hear that? Look...there...some torchlight. I'll douse mine." Levistus' light goes dark.

"Why?" comes a response, "the surface is dangerous."
"Because Lord Corgan wishes it," there is a meaningful pause, before the voice continues, "and his will is not to be questioned."
Alerion and Caelwyn advance closer towards the source of the light, after about 80 feet the voices are fully audible, and the forms of at least two reptilian figures can be seen standing near the torches, another 60' further.
Caelwyn

Caelwyn holds a hand up to halt the rest of the group. He mouths to Alerion, "let me." He then strides forward, very purposefully, and begins speaking to the creatures.
Bluff 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Troglodytes again? Know(nature) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 if necessary... or not...

As you draw closer, you see clearly two large branches to the main tunnel you are navigating, off to the right stand the two troglodytes. Further behind them, staring intensely towards your approach, crouches a bald human clutching tightly to a longbow.
The two Troglodytes look up abruptly at Caelwyn's words, responding in draconic, "We were not told to expect anyone, we were told to stop surfacers from passing. Why do you want to see Lord Corgan?"
The human behind them begins to rise from his crouch, his eyes still fixed on Caelwyn.
please can I have Sense Motives from anyone within 60'
Caelwyn

"Lord Corgan sent us to clear the way," Cealwyn boldly declares in Draconic, "There is some important new information the mighty Lord Corgan must be informed of! Who is this waif here? He is obviously not part of the mighty troglodyte tribes."
Bluff 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Sense Motive 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11

The troglodytes look unsurely to each other, then the bolder one speaks up, "He is Lord Corgan's servant, called Lemedor, he was with him when he first came to our tribe and killed the old chief..." the troglodyte looks back to the human, who has now begun to silently reach for an arrow.
Levistus.
|
Watching the man reach for the arrow Levistus says without looking away, "The man is enchanted most likely with charm magic. I'd stake my life on it." Stepping forward slightly, "Caelwyn if you would be so kind to explain to your new associates that this man is not acting under his own will and must be disabled." Not waiting for the response Levistus begins casting his own enchantment.

In Draconic, Caelwyn commands imperiously, "He has been tainted by surface magic, you must subdue him before he breaks all of Lord Corgan's plans! Preserve him for questioning!"
Bluff 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Casting Ghost Sound originating on Lemedor... not sure of the limits to this spell are... I'd like to make it so he is saying "Death to the Troglodytes and Lord Corgan", or some such. If that isn't possible, crazed laughter might work.

The troglodytes whirl around in dismay at the proclamation, seemingly from Lemedor, indecision covering their faces.

Thovar waits to see what the troglodytes are going to do, feeling that his allies have the situation fairly well in hand. Delay action.
