"I believe us non-dwarves are going to need some light source." Alerion calls back to the rest of the group then moves forward to investigate the barricade.

Move to F1. Is there any source of light other than the grate hole?

The Exchange

Olo follows Alerion, five feet behind him. I’m happy to take the lead if/whenever anyone wants me to.

Sovereign Court

there are no light down in the sewers.

rolls:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Caelwyn follows the others down into the sewers, dropping into the water.

Alerion, as he navigates his way around the storm drain outlet, catches a glint of light reflecting of a large tin box hidden within a recess below the barricade, as this draws his attention a brief movement from beyond the metal construct catches his attention; it is too dark to make out the figure, but it would seem you are being observed.

You got to I2 before spotting the box and 'watcher'. I'll let you have one round before initiative starts, it doesn't seem to realise you have seen it yet.
Initiative
'watcher' 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
Alerion 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Caelwyn 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Levistus 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Olomorn 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Thovar 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Sorry, missed your post.

Olo also spot's the creature crouched behind the barricade, his Darkvision reveals it to be a lizard-like humanoid with scaly grey skin. It holds a rope that leads to the box.

New Map The box is along the intersection of E1 and F1

"Ugh..."

Thovar jumps in as well, once there is room.

Whoops! Missed the part where initiative started because I had the window open for a while. I'll wait until my turn I suppose.

The Exchange

Olo gently taps Alerion with the end of his shaft and stands alongside of him to whisper: “Someone up ahead is watching us – and he holds a rope in his hands connected to the box.”

Sovereign Court

We can assume that Thovar started to climb down as Alerion was moving if you want, you can start at the bottom of the ladder on your initiative. You can too Levistus, if you want too.

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Chelish) 1st Level Sorcerer

Levistus casts light for himself, Alerion, and whomever else needs it, on whatever they choose. Looking at the deep brackish water, "This is just wonderful. Remind me to give the Venture-Captain my thanks when we see him again."

Calix:

Spoiler:
Levistus leaves his noble clothes in Mr. Fuln's care. Yes, he will start at the bottom of the ladder and he is trying to take a 20 if we are going slow enough (for his search for the scroll tube).

Okay, thanks.

Thovar reaches the bottom of the ladder and mutters to himself, "It's times like this that I wish I'd just been a merchant! Abadar forgive me..."

Liberty's Edge

Alerion nods his head and leans in to whisper to Olo: "Shall we trigger his trap? You could try and cut the rope."

I prefer not to have a light spell myself, just having one near is fine.

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Chelish) 1st Level Sorcerer

Thinking sarcastically to himself, This is a perfect place to run into a crocodile creature....perfect for the crocodile that is... He holds his light crossbow, which ironically literally IS a "light" crossbow since it is emanating a magical radiance from his spell, just above the surface of the water doing a careful sweep of the chamber. Keeping his own council while the self elected scouts advance further along the waterway.

The Exchange

Alerion Versova wrote:

Whispers to Alerion: "I say we spread out and move forward so once the tarp is sprung - we are not all hit by it. I don't think I could rush up and cut the rope in time - but it would be good if one of us used a ranged attack and attacked him from here."

We should also give the rest of the party time to get down here...

Sovereign Court

The new light spell only allows you to have one casting active at a time (due to the unlimited castings), so you'll only be able to have the one.

rolls:
1d20 ⇒ 16

The scaly creature seems not to hear your whispers, and watches intently as the remaining members of your group descend into the murky waters.

Paizo Employee

Male dwarf cleric of Abadar 2 -- 9/22 hp; Init +1; AC 17, touch 11, flat-footed 16 (+4 vs. giants); CMD 15; Fort +6, Ref +2, Will +6 (+2 vs. spells, SLAs, poison); Perception +8 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Thovar resists the urge to yell out at the creature that the others say is lurking nearby, and moves slightly forward along the wall so that everyone has room to climb down.

Liberty's Edge

How tall is the barricade?

Sovereign Court

Alerion Versova wrote:

It reaches most of the height of the tunnel, so ranged attacks would be very difficult.

The Exchange

Ok - I don't beleive we want to over think this...once we’re all down in the sewer we can try a ranged attack or two (which may fail) and then we’ll move forward. I’m happy to go first in moving forward and be a – err - dwarven meat shield. Please protect the cleric – not only is he my “cousin” but he can heal us!” :)

Liberty's Edge

I guess in that case

Alerion draws his bow and lets an arrow fly toward the creature. "Hope you guys are ready."

Ranged Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 Damage 1d6 ⇒ 5

Paizo Employee

Well, that's one way to roll Diplomacy. ;)

Sovereign Court

Alrerion's arrow seems to fly true, heading straight towards the unsuspecting creature beyond the barricade. Unfortunately it catches on a thin piece of wire protruding into the gap that the elf had aimed for, causing it to ricochet off course and fly harmlessly into the darkness.

Just missed due to the improved cover of the barricade

Caelwyn follows suit, letting loose an arrow from his own bow, but he misjudges the angle and the projectile embeds itself into the twisted metal blocking the tunnel.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9, 1d8 ⇒ 4

The Exchange

I move forward as much as I can. I suspect it will only be five feet because of the difficult terrian.

When it's my turn...

Thovar draws his warhammer and prepares to face whatever creatures dare to attack the group...

Readied action to attack a creature that attacks Thovar or an ally, assuming the creature is adjacent.

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Chelish) 1st Level Sorcerer

Surprised at the sudden viciousness of his companions, "I take it we are no longer taking the "let's try and talk to the crocodile aberration" tactic?

Calix:

Spoiler:
I don't know if I can see the thing from where I am but if I can he readies a an action to cast hypnotism should it try and flee. Since we are now in combat the will save would be a DC 17. If his spell has an effect, he will also yell out "Don't attack it" at the same time.

Sovereign Court

The figure behind the barricade ducks instinctively at the projectiles being launched towards it, then pulls the rope taut before trying to dart off into the darkness. Levistus is ready though, and begins to cast his spell.

Will Save 1d20 ⇒ 3 Fail

The creature is held transfixed by Levistus' waving hands, standing transfixed. "Don't attack it!" yells Levistus.

The rope pulls the lid of the box open, allowing a mass of swarming rats to pour outwards, driven into a frenzy by their confinement.
Rat's initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Initiative order
Rats
Levistus
'Watcher'
Caelwyn
Olomorn (readied)
Alerion
Thovar

map

rolls:
2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3

Sovereign Court

As the rats swarm forwards, Olo swings his axe down at them viciously, then brings it back in a reverse swing cutting through the mass a second time.

Greataxe +4 (1d12+4)
AoO 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10, 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Readied action 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14, 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

While his greataxe does draw blood, it seems to be of limited use against the tiny creatures. The rats continue in their path, biting into both Olomorn and Alerion.

Olo and Alerion take 1d6 ⇒ 3 damage, and please can you both make two fort saves.
The swarm now occupies the line from G2-J2.
Olomorn is now acting at the top of the round.

Sovereign Court

Oops! just realised I messed up the initiative order there a bit - I'll say the rats were delayed until the box opened, so it's now Caelwyn, followed by Alerion.

Caelwyn fires an arrow ineffectively into the swarm.
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8, 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

The Exchange

Fort Save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Sovereign Court

Olomorn Rubyax wrote:

Olomorn is Nauseated for 1 round from the sickening feeling of the rats running over him.

Liberty's Edge

Fort Saves 1d20 ⇒ 13, 1d20 ⇒ 19

Alerion drops his shortbow in the water and retrieves his morningstar. "Somebody subdue the creature! We will handle the rats."

Attack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 Damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The morningstar crashes into the mass of rats, crushing many of their tiny bones.

Alerion is not nauseated

Calix:

Spoiler:
Ok, I assume your hidden roll is for the duration, which is fine but the issue is I couldn't cast it from where I am currently at on the map (25' foot range). However It can effect multiple creatures, so I could center it on the rat swarm (I think it effects swarms but not sure). It effects 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 hit dice worth of creatures. So as long as the other creature is within 30' of the swarm than I'll get them both (of course that would probably stop the swarm before it can damage us. Confusing, I know...

Alternatively, you could just move me up within 25' feet of the creature but I would still try and effect the swarm (now that it has been revealed).

Or I am just totally out of range and can chalk it up to adventurer inexperience.

No problem, swarms are immune to mind-affecting spells unless they have the hivemind trait (which rats don't).

Ok, sounds good. Looks like I could just center it on the swarm and still get the guy running away. So it's all good and nothing needs changing. Carry on, nothing to see here....

EDIT:

Spoiler:
Unless all creatures effected by it need to be within 25' feet (the range) but can't be more than 30' apart. Or can I target one creature and any other creature within 30' feet of it can be effected regardless of range from me? Gah! I don't know!

Sovereign Court

We'll leave it as it is, I missed the range so it can stand

My turn?

Thovar steps up to the rats and, swinging his warhammer with both hands, brings it crashing down into their midst. However, he is not used to fighting in the water, and misses terribly...

Thovar moves to K2. Attack roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3. oh no!

Sovereign Court

There's not much change so I won't bother with a new map. the initiative order is now:
Olomorn, Levistus, 'watcher', Rats, Caelwyn, Alerion, Thovar

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Chelish) 1st Level Sorcerer

Levistus slogs his way across the room (double-move to H5). While doing so he yells out to the creature, "Can you help me get past this barricade?" He watches closely to see if the creature understands and reacts.

Calix:

Spoiler:
According to the hypnosis spell he can make a single request from the fascinated creature. Now whether the creature tries to accomplish this task during the spells duration or after it wears off is somewhat unclear. I am going to try and get some clarification for this spell from the boards as I will be using it quite frequently and have no clear idea about how it works. Should of just picked the Sleep spell.

Sovereign Court

The creature looks back at Levistus with an expression of puzzlement, it doesn't seem to understand common.

Levistus:
I'm pretty sure the request (should you make the diplomacy DC) is carried out even after the spell is over.

Now that he can see it better with his light, can I get a description please?

Sovereign Court

Levistus wrote:

The creature stands in a hunched posture as is stares blankly towards Levistus. A small crest falls back along its head and back as it relaxes, and it's grey scaled tail waves slightly to a steady rhythm.

It occasionally flicks out a forked tongue from its short, reptilian snout.

I've not skipped you Olo, I figured it would be easier to deal with you and Levistus in the order you posted.

It's cool - makes perfect sense to keep things moving. I'm nauseated so I don't believe I can attack - so I'll just take a five foot step backwards. I hate swarms!

I-1

Sovereign Court

The scaly creature continues to passively watch Levistus, while the rats continue to swarm forwards, continuing to bite into Alerion and engulfing Olomorn and Caelwyn. You each take 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage from the bites and need to make 2 Fort saves (except Olo, who only needs to make 1).

Caelwyn: Fort Save 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10, Fort Save 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15

Caelwyn is unable to control himself and does nothing more than try to brush off the rats.

The Exchange

Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Olo yells through his nausea: "Somone burn the blasted rats! Even if I am standing in the midst of the rats - burn them!"

Thovar growls and attemps to crush the rats again with his hammer.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14. Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Hopefully I hit!

Alerion's mace splashes harmlessly into the water as the rodents scurry around him, but Thovar's hammer sweeps in a deadly arc, slaying the rats too slow to evade its path.
