Pet Insurance, Anyone?

Off-Topic Discussions

I seriously need to get pet insurance as my american bulldog puppy has been an expensive investment than originally intended and he's just 14 months old now. Does anyone have any recommedations on pet insurance that they pay into that's decent on the deductible and monthly premiums? I'd like to see one that gives breaks for multiple pets and covers both canine and felines. I'm skeptical of those I've seen advertised on the Internet and wish there was some sort of unbiased Consumer Reports comparative, etc.

Pet First, who I have for Harry, is decent. I use the $36/month option, and in September, they reimbursed me 187 out of 470 for his dental work. His teeth were pre-existing conditions, but getting money back, that paid for five months, didn't it?

Am I reading you right that they do allow pre-existing conditions? $36 / month ain't bad at all. Can you point me to a preferred link?

Thanks!

The teeth that had been an issue for years were not covered, I apologize if I made it seem like I did. The entire operation for him to get cleaned up, those bad teeth removed, the sinus infection treated, cost me out of pocket, $461.

Pet First reimbursed me $187. The only thing not covered was the teeth, because in his records, it was hinted at to take action in 2007.

But the sinus infection treatment (from one bad tooth) was covered. As was the checkup fee and a host of other items.

I really hope that you weigh the options and pros versus cons. I felt like I made a good choice, my dog is more spry for being 8 years of age, so everyone seems to have won.

Good luck.

Thanks! I'll have to check it out as my lady keeps getting on my case about getting it done, but it is the pre-existing portion that worries me as we're concerned that even just at 14 months that he may have a knee out of place on his hind leg. Someone suggested it was from growing too quickly, but we got him neutered back at 7 months so I don't think the testosterone growth spurt would have been a factor. *shrug*

Scarab Sages

I use ASPCA (as in The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)

I am very satisfied with them. I have filed 5 claims with them in 2 years and they have covered anywhere from %30 to %50 each.

Hm. I'll have to check it out. What I'm dreading is I'm hearing that the surgery that may need to be performed could run up to 3k. I'm going to do what I need to do, but I wish there was a reasonable way to defray the costs. It just ain't the same as health care for people, that's for sure.
