I enjoyed the entire film and thought some of the character designs and battles were very clever. I saw the original 10-minute short at an animation festival about four years ago. It tells the same basic story without being quite as expansive. The Beast is the only stitchpunk monster in the original and only 9 is alive to fight it with all of the other stitchpunks assumed to have been killed by it. There is also no dialogue in the short. Having loved the original, I was probably a little biased in my opinion of the full-length film.
I don't think most audiences would have gone for it, but I think I'd like to see a cut of this film without any spoken words, just pantomime and music. I think it would be really moving. Regardless, I look forward to seeing more of Shane Acker's work.

Absolute agreement--I enjoyed the short more than the feature simply for the reason of dialogue, or lack thereof.
