I am playing a Ranger and want to take a Hawk, Falcon, Eagle etc as my animal companion ... some kind of bird of prey, in other words.
Does anyone know if there is a good mini for something like this? I'm looking for a normal size bird, not a huge Dire or Celestial version, so scale is important. The only mini I've seen so far that is the right size / scale is a bat mini.
Does anyone know of a mini that will work????
Thanks!!!

I guess your ranger is not an elf?

Thanks for the response!
I should have specified ... I'm looking for the plastic, pre-painted minis, not the metal. So, although some of those listed would be perfect, they are metal, so they will not work.
So, are there any plastic pre-painted minis out there like the metal ones you have suggested???

You might check out the toy aisle at a craft shop - they often have those tubes of plastic animals. There might be something in one of those, though the sizes tend to be a bit wonky.
Though painting a hawk should be pretty easy: base it in black and dry brush it with a couple of browns. It won't look professional but it will be serviceable.

Thanks!
Like I said upstream, though, I'm looking for a good PLASTIC PRE PAINTED mini, not an unpainted and/or metal one.
There HAS to be some good animal companion / familiar minis out there!

Mage Knight Minis >> Uprising >> Elven Falconer
The bird could easily be chopped off her hand and repainted/rebased, she's a medium mini on a click base. A bit of brown paint you could probably mod her arm into something of a tree branch/stump... that way you wouldn't have to chop too close to the bird.
Mage Knight Minis >> Uprising >> Gyre Falcon
I'm not sure how big this one is exactly, I never owned it. I just ran across it while looking for the above Falconer.
(Click bases are usually easy to remove and some just pop right off, this was the fate of the few mage knight minis I owned. They make pretty good NPCs.)

Man, why does Mage Knight produce such great minis, and most seem to be reasonably priced?
Marc, you haven't said whether you know what mini I'm talking about, so here's a link. (Especially since I was wrong about which set it was in.)

From Mage Knight figures:
Elven Falconer #43
Elven Falconer #44
Elven Falconer #45
The above are easy enough to chop off the arm and glue to a small-sized base.
Any stand-alone hawks or eagles you get from the mage knight line will be too large to represent a small-sized creature, and probably too large to represent a medium-sized creature, but they make great Giant Eagles.

From Mage Knight figures:Keldane Falconer
I like that one a lot. I may have to snag one an amputate that myself.
"I use to be a Falconer, but I lost a poker game to a taxidermist, along with my arm and my companion."
P.S. Does anyone know of any medium-large Shark (NOT the were-shark) miniatures?

For miniatures of real-world animals, I'd check the craft stores for plastic ones, or try big chain stores for a "Toob" of animals... there are many kinds, including jungle animals, fish & ocean critters, dinosaurs, etc.
Also try any hobby shops that cater to model railroaders. They'll have farm animals at minimum and may have some larger birds.

Thanks everyone!
That Glanjoram Hawklord Mage Knight figure is perfect! It's pretty much exactly what I envisioned my hawk looking like. I just found one one EBAY and snagged it.
Any reccomendations on the modifications? I can just grab one of the D&D minis which I have duplicates of and pull the figure off so I have a good base. Then, once I have the hawk sugically removed from the rest of the Mage Knight figure, I just need some sort of post so the hawk sits an inch or so above the base. Any ideas for a good post?
Also, is any type of glue best for this? Some sort of Crazy Glue?
Thanks!!!

RE Glue and models - you can buy a modeling glue specifically for connecting plastic pieces to other plastic pieces (Walmart has carried it in the past). One trick that I use for gluing very quickly (especially with plastic pieces) is to use a drop of white glue on one part and a small drop of super glue on the other. You will have an almost instant hold and then you can reinforce with a drop of more solid glue like the plastic modelling glue.
For a post, your easiest and best bet is to use a toothpick (cocktail stick) painted black. Drill a suitable hole in the base and a little hole in the bird and stick it on. You may need to use a little putty or clay around the bottom depending on the nature of your base. Copper wire can also be used if you have some of a suitable thickness lying around.
EDIT: If you use wire you do need to be aware that the plastic modeling glue does not hold well to metal and some of the glues meant for metal will burn or even melt some plastics over time. When gluing metal to plastic, I tend to use a mixture of white glue and super glue or a cement glue.
