Do the runes look like the things our kidnap victim wrote all over himself?

Not likely the script is stained into the bone.

"I say we grind it under our heels and be done with this."

Do I have any idea what might happen if we tried to destroy it, from my previous observations of the slaad tanks?

Typhus will take a long look at the skull as well, attempting to determine its nature and method of function.

Arcana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Typhus:
If one was cruel enough one could imprision a powerfull soul and use it as an magical implament. It could also be forced to use it's wisdon as a compelled advisor.

"Curious. This device could be used to imprison a soul and compel its assistance as an advisor. It is a terrible process; we should research it for use when we find ir'Ruing..."

male human Resourceful Warlord/Commando Captain 13

"Tyhpus, the last thing I want in my life is Blondie whispering words of wisdom in my ear."

As you search the rest of the cell you notice the coins on the table are stamped with your likenesses.
The inner cell door is locked, DC 25 to open.

Amael (Uriel) is MIA in several games and no one is sure what happened or if he will be back. I hope he is fine but we will continue on without him for now.

AS you look over the room more throughly every suddenly notice the Ureil is not there.

Human Artificer/Battle Engineer 11

"I don't think this is legal tender."

Ferdinand continues as he kneels down before the lock. "So, let's take stock. We got magical goods the same as our old gear in every meaningful way, a dragonshard the size of my head containing Host-knows-what, a skull on a stick, and gold coins that make us look like vain counterfeiters if we tried to spend them. This better be a fever dream, or I'd call this a waste of our time."

Theivery: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Male Gnome Illusionist Wizard 13

"Maybe the coins are some sort of component that may be to our saving. We ought to take a closer look."

male human Resourceful Warlord/Commando Captain 13

"You'd better take these."

Malick hands over the lockpicks again and stashes the dragonshard into his own backpack. As he rummages, his hand closes on Blondie's amulet and he hauls it out to take yet another look at the thing.

"Not just any dragonshard, Ferdinand. This one has pretty visions and I don't reckon any of us want to watch it for long. The skull - who knows. We've seen plenty. Coins - maybe Rennick's right about that. Whereabouts would you say we broke down the wall the last time? Anyone remember?"

When Malick pulls out Ruing's amulet the faint silver lights in the skull/spine eye-sockets turn dark red. The person holding the skull/spine feals a wave of hate flow from it.

male human Resourceful Warlord/Commando Captain 13

"Probably not good, but who knows."

Cautiously, Malick advances on the skull, watching for developments.

When Malick gets the amulet within a few feet of the skull a gout of flame erupts from the skulls eyes. The flames reduce the amulet to slag causeing malick 1d10 ⇒ 7 fire damage.

The skulls light fades back to silver afterwards.

male human Resourceful Warlord/Commando Captain 13

"Well, that was decisive. Guess whoever's in there loves Blondie as much as we do. Can you open it up Rennick?"

"Well that was a bit flashy."

Would a religion check give any insight onto what that was? the effect that is.

Ragna wrote:

Yes it would.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Relgion check +2 for silver flame can be added if it is still warranted

You reconize it as the divine spell Avenging Flame.

Male Gnome Illusionist Wizard 13

Rennik attempts to fiddle with the lock.

Thievery 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Close, but no cigar. Can Ferdinand's check count as an Aid Another?

Rennik I belive Malick's lockpicks give you a +2 bonus, so you would have made the roll.

The lock pops open and the door slowly swings open disturbing the webs inside.
Nothing happens for a few moments before the web wrapped body twitches and shakes before splitting open. A hoard of spiders spill out and begin running everywhere.
As the group is stomping and swatting the spider a larger figure literary snakes its way from the web cocoon. A mummified yaun-ti slithers out of the cocoon and draws its self up to its full height of 9 feet.
It looks you over as its tongue flickers smelling you as well.
He focuses on Malick and hisses, "The prize it belongs to me. Give it to me and I shall let you leave. Refuse and I shall feast on your liver. I am quite hungry, decide quickly."

male human Resourceful Warlord/Commando Captain 13

"You want a melted amulet? Fine by me."

Malick kicks the remains towards the yuan-ti.

"Back away everyone. Time to leave."

Dungeoneering, what can I tell about the yuan-ti? 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

"Yeah what he said."

Passive insight 17
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30 Diplomacy

"Fool, it offers unlimited power. The power to reshape the world, the power to destroy entire nations. That power belongs to me."

"What is stopping us from using it to send your rotted corpse back to whatever pit you crawled out of. You will keep that tongue civil"

"Perhaps we should give it back to him... I would be amused to see what an undead monstrosity from a vile race would reshape the world into. On the other hand, we could use it, too. I have always desired to see what the world would look like if everyone had heads that split open to reveal rows and rows of teeth. And tentacles, of course the tentacles..."

Male Gnome Illusionist Wizard 13

So far we've eliminated giving it to the yuan-ti and giving it to Typhus...

"Your petty oaths to the usurper god mean little to a follower of the true god."

The abomination looks at Typhus, "I see that one amongst you has the vision to see the master’s goals. Join me visionary and your merest desire will be fulfilled you will have armies of toothy tentacled slaves to torment.”

male human Resourceful Warlord/Commando Captain 13

"Typhus, you might want to factor in the whole "being dead" thing when making your decision. I'd find that a deterrent personally."

He nods at the yuan-ti. "I realise that could be considered offensive, but you know, it's been a long day. My manners aren't at their best right now."

"Alas, you have the wrong of it: I do not seek slaves to torment. I see brothers and sisters of the glorious chaos to build the perfect world. Caiphon smiles upon the perfect randomness of it all. Slavery, torment, these are the words of weak tyrants who fear the maelstrom and know not the true path of knowledge. I will stay with my companions; they are far better at sowing chaos than you have shown yourself to be...

I mean, really. Spiders? Cliched and old when the Dark Ones first drew this world from the ooze to see what madness life itself can wreak. Spiders..."

"Caiphon is weak and insane the master forced his light from the sky eons ago. Chaos is weakness and easily dominated as you will be."

Aspahatama moves to attack.

Ragna is up.

"I'm flattered. Now let's deal with this dead snake and leave."

Malick looks at the skull on a stick and considers. "How about you, friend, wanting out of here?"

I am not sure where the big baddie is standing.

Sorry about that.

The angered palidin lays down a masive smite on the mummified snake. The smite tears open its desaccated hide spilling sand and dust about the cell. But all is not good as Ragna moves to the far side of the cell she opens her defenses enough for the yaun-ti to make a opportunity attack.

Just asking in anticipation - can Malick attack through the bars with his halberd?
