Scientists create artificial life: World first as genome pioneer makes designer microbe from scratch

They're here

It says something that the thing that ticked me off the most about that article was the reference to the horrible film adaptation of a great book.

I would not call that new life. More like reprogrammed cells of what was already here. It does open the door however.

We got the NSF grant for introducing saline tolerance from Distichlis spicata to Pueraria lobata back in 2006. Genetic recombination testing is going nicely.

However, we're still formulating the proper extortion letter. Neither game writing nor grant proposal writing has prepared me for my career as a Bond Villain terribly well.

We'd better act soon. Need to get that wad of cash (and upgrade the Frickin' Laser Beams with it) before the entire World Economy collapses...

Some folks seem to think there could be a positive dispersal effect. I'm less optimistic. I think historic patterns suggest hurricanes an tropical storm are more likely to drive oil into sensitive coastal areas. I have very little idea how they will interact with the underwater masses of the spill, but we will surely find out. There is a huge amount of oil, and it isn't going away for a long time.

I'm sure I can convince at least ONE of Demogorgon's personalities that I'm responsible for this.

If not I hear Nyarlathotep is hiring.
