Anyssa continues circling the bugbear, taunting it as she dances clear of its morningstar once more. Enraged, it lifts its weapon to smash it down towards her and she seizes the moment, darting in to cut it once more with her knives, the onslaught proving too much for the creature as it sinks to its knees, bleeding from half a dozen wounds, before lapsing into unconsciousness.

Attacks: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16.1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Critical Confirmation:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3.1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Garret's arrow glances of the remaining brute's armor as it roars a challenge, grinning hideously and hefting its giant club towards Damandor. The cleric takes the blow on his shield, turning away the worst of the attack and avoiding any serious damage.

Attack on Damandor:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 1) + 5 = 11

All that remains is their leader, engaged in melee with Anyssa and Damandor. Garret is about twenty feet away, Grunthor is unconscious besides the fallen bugbears. Anyssa and Damandor can easily flank the creature for this round.

Next Up:
Damandor
Anyssa
Garret

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Damandor will move into a flanking position with Anyssa and then attack the brute with all he has.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 2 = 19, Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

M Caliban Barbarian 8

Grunthor's body attempts a stabilize.

1d100 ⇒ 91

Male Halfling Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster

Garret fires another arrow at the bugbear.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 191d4 ⇒ 1

Anyssa moves to flank the last of your enemy, both starknives a flash of motion. With a howl of pain the creature spins to face the new threat.

Attacks:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24.1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage:1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5.1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Surrounding your enemy, Damandor strikes another blow as Garret also peppers it with arrows from a short distance away. The large humanoid is covered with minor cuts and bruises, yet still swings its club in a vicious arc towards Anyssa who just manages to dodge aside.

Attack on Anyssa:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 4) + 5 = 12

It is seriously wounded now, although shows no sign of fleeing. Enraged at its continued failure to connect, it appears to be growing more and more savage in its attacks.

Next Up:
Damandor
Anyssa
Garret

Male Halfling Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster

Garret once again tries to put an arrow into the bugbear.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 151d4 ⇒ 3 I'll be glad when I can get Precise Shot

Garret Highhill wrote:

At least you're not rolling ones anymore...

Struggling to get a clear shot at the remaining foe fighting his companions, Garret seizes an opening in the melee and releases his arrow, watching it sail just wide of the mark.

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Damandor seeing the anger and wrath grow in this creature, swings his longsword once again in an effort to bring down this monster.

"We must hurry and finish this one off, lest he wear us down I fear."

Attack (longsword): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6, Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Unfortunately, Damandor did not get quite the attack results that he wanted. :-(

M Caliban Barbarian 8

We looked up the Pathfinder Stablelize rules and I need to make a DC10 Constitution check less any hit points I am down. So I will roll a d20 adding 2 for my Con Bonus and subtracting 5 for being at -5 hp. So here we go.

1d20 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 5 = 2

I guess that I am now at -6 hit points.

Anyssa continues to harry your enemy, his armor turning away one of her knives, but failing to deflect the second which inflicts another minor wound.

Attacks:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8.1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage:1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5.1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Growing somewhat alarmed as the mounting number of wounds begin to sap his strength, the large creature once more swings its enormous club towards Anyssa. This time, she is unable to avoid the mighty blow and is swept off her feet, slamming into the ground a few feet away as she is knocked unconscious by the blow.

Attack on Anyssa:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 6) + 5 = 15

Next Up:
Damandor
Garret

Stabilise checks:
Grunthor
Anyssa

1d20+2-5

Seems right to me. By the way, would you mind resending me your character sheet (or posting it into your profile)? I have had a minor computer crash and lost a few bits and pieces, including Grunthor's sheet. Cheers

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Damandor with a plea to Corellon as he watches Anyssa brutally knock unconscious by this brute that they face, press his attack once more in the hope that he can finish this battle in time to aid his friends.

"Corellon aid me in this fight that I may save friends, direct my strike so that I may end this fight and defeat this foe."

Attack (Longsword): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11, Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Once again it looks as if Damandor has fail to connect with the beast.

Male Halfling Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster

Garret continues to shoot at the bugbear.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d4 ⇒ 4

Stabilise checks
Anyssa:1d20 - 4 ⇒ (10) - 4 = 6
Grunthor:1d20 + 2 - 6 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 6 = 13

Anyssa condition continues to deteriorate, however Grunthor's bleeding eases somewhat.

The large humanoid leers at you as Garret and Damandor's desperate attacks are deflected by its armor, grunting savagely it presses the attack, slamming its club towards Damandor who once more turns the blow away with his shield.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 2) + 5 = 9

Damandor and Garret can both act. Although your opponent is bruised and bloodied he shows no sign of letting up, laughing maniacally as he swings his heavy club in a giant, sweeping arc.

Male Halfling Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster

"Damn." Garret, in a panic, attempts to put another arrow in the bugbear.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 161d4 ⇒ 3

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Damandor summoning some of the supernatural power granted to him by Corellon, reaches out to touch his opponent.

Touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Damandor tries to impart some of his chaotic nature on the beast that he is battling with. If he manages to touch his opponent, his opponent will have to roll any d20 roll twice and take the lower result for the next round.

A drooling smile spreads across the towering creature's face as he glances over at Garret. "You come back with us!" he leers in broken common, before returning to menace Damandor with his club. Once more, the priest manages to turn aside the attack, the powerful blow slamming into the dirt at his feet.

Attack on Damandor:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 8) + 5 = 15

Next up Garret and Damandor

Lying unconscious in the gulley, Anyssa's condition continues to deteriorate as the battle rages above her.

Anyssa's stabilise check:1d20 - 5 ⇒ (11) - 5 = 6

Male Halfling Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster

"Damn it damn it damn it why won't you won't you die already."

Another attack, please don't go unconscious Damador. 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 41d4 ⇒ 3

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Damandor strike with his longsword once again, hoping again that he can strike this big creature down.

Damandor says as he strikes at the creature with his sword, "So, speak can you a bit? Well we'll see what we can do to silence you!"

Attack (Longsword): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4, Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 I now know of a surety that the virtual dice hate me now.

Damandor once again has trouble striking the beast, he is weary after back to back battles and the adrenaline rush he felt at the beginning is ebbing away from him.

"Corellon, please we beseech you to aid us in this time of need."

Growing increasingly desperate, Damandor and Garret both fail to land a blow. Sensing victory, the hulking creature once more swings his club at Damandor, connecting this time with a sickening thud which staggers the priest and nearly drops him.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
2d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 = 7

Stabilise check for Anyssa:1d20 - 6 ⇒ (10) - 6 = 4.

Garret and Damandor are next.

Male Halfling Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster

"Nononononono"

Another attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d4 ⇒ 3

We better get another level soon. We can use another dab of healing.

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Staggered by the blow the creature finally lands on Damandor, he steps back and raising his Holy symbol in the air, calls on the power given unto him. As he does a visible burst of energy spreads out from him in all directions.

Damandor uses his channel energy. This heals 1d6 ⇒ 6hp damage for all living creatures within 30' of Damandor.

Well that should help everyone out, unfortunately the brute that we are fighting as well (unless he is undead), but it erases almost all the damage he did to Damandor. That should stabilize Anyssa as well.

As the healing aura spreads around Damandor, the worst of Anyssa and Grunthor's wounds are healed and the two of them struggle to consciousness, still dazed as the fight rages around them. Both Grunthor and Anyssa are now on 0 hit points. Damandor also benefits from the divine blessing, although unfortunately some of the ogre's wounds also close before your eyes.

He laughs at you, launching another savage assault as Damandor tries to evade, turning aside the enormous club with his shield.

Attack on Damandor:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 6) + 5 = 12

Next up:
Garret
Damandor
Anyssa
Grunthor

Anyssa and Grunthor are prone and are on zero hit points, meaning they will fall unconscious once more if they take any strenuous actions.

Male Halfling Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster

Garret once again fires an arrow.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 141d4 ⇒ 3

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Damandor steps back from the ogre and casts a spell, while continuing to hold his holy symbol up in supplication from his deity, while speaking in a language other than his native tongue.

Damandor takes a 5' step back and casts the spell Bless. That will give everyone in the party a +1 bonus to attacks and saves against fear.

M Caliban Barbarian 8

Grunthor will attempt to crawl 5 feet from the enemy and try to stand up. I imagine this will take up his entire turn.

Male Dwarf Druid lv:2

AH!!! I lost my dot and didn't know this PbP was back. Sorry everyone. DM's choice whether I stay or go.

Flint Earthbrother wrote:

You are welcome, of course - we were pretty much in need of some replacements anyhow. Currently things are dire. You have clearly been seeing off another bugbear, but are now free to act. Damandor is slightly wounded, Anyssa and Grunthor are both on zero hit points. Garret is unharmed a short distance away. You are all fighting the ogre which was leading the bugbears who were tracking you. It is heavily wounded, however is able to dish out some serious damage.

Garret has just fired and missed, Damander has blessed the party. Grunthor has moved a short distance from the brute and staggered to his feet. Flint and Anyssa are still to act.

Male Dwarf Druid lv:2

Time to make up for my absence! I hope..

Seeing most of his comrades badly hurt, Flint charges while brandishing his warhammer.

Charge Attack:1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18
Damage:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Flint's AC for this round is 15(19 against the ogre).

Having seen off the final bugbear, Flint returns to the fray, charging in under the ogre's guard and catching him unawares. His warhammer slams into the side of the large creature and it staggers sideways a few steps before slumping unconcsious amidst its fallen underlings. As you stand, breathing heavily surrounded by your fallen enemies, the area once more grows quiet.

Sorry for the delay in the last couple of days. I'm going to have to go back to recalculate experience points, however you certainly have enough to advance to second level, so feel free to update your character sheets. Anyssa and Grunthor are both on zero hit points, Flint and Damandor are also a little wounded, I believe. So far you havent travelled a great distance today, since doubling back to ambush your pursuers.

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

With the arrival of Flint, Damandor's heart leaps for joy and he sends thanks to Corellon for the aid that came to them in the form of their Dwarf companion Flint.

After Flint fells the ogre, Damandor nods his thanks to Flint for his assistance as he tries to catch his breath. He then goes to assist Anyssa and Grunthor in any way he can. As he does so he says, "I believe it would be wise of us to move a little way away from this battle scene while I offer some healing to our injured companions."

Once the party has put a little distance between them and remains of the battle he says, "Those that are injured please gather round me." As soon as they do he concentrates briefly and that now familiar radiant burst of light and energy emanates from Damandor and spreads outward.

Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 2, I believe that those who are injured are: Anyssa, Grunthor, Damandor, and I think Flint was down a few hp from the first bugbear attack.

"Grunthor, I believe that you may be worse off of all of us, please let me assist you further." Damandor steps toward the barbarian and while speaking a phrase in the language that he uses to cast his spells and placing a hand on his shoulder heals the barbarian of some more of his wounds.

Casts Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Damandor then says, "My friends I am going to need to rest soon before I can do much more healing. I think that while we still have some daylight we should put some more distance between us and our attackers remains. If they were part of a tribe, then there may be more near by."

Damandor then prepares to continue their journey.

"Yeah, getting out of here is a good idea. I don't fancy dying today," she says, wincing a bit.

Could someone please tell me if I am still wounded and if so how much?

You have only just recovered from unconsciousness and are now on 2 hit points.

Having been back through my notes, I've got you each on 1625 experience points (including the last battle). As mentioned above - once you rest, you'll advance to level two. Post any queries to the discussion thread.

Are you going with Damandor's plan - continue through the rest of the day to put some distance between you and the site of the battle?

M Caliban Barbarian 8

I am a bit fatigued for a minute. After, I'm for going on and get some distance between us and the city.

Male Dwarf Druid lv:2

"We need to move fast if we're put much distance between this place and us before we camp. Is anyone too hurt to walk on their own?"

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

"Flint, I think Annysa may need some assistance as she is still very badly hurt, and Grunthor may still be pretty badly hurt as well, but better off then Annysa I believe."

"I can use the power granted unto me by Corellon one more time today, but then I will not have the use of it for the rest of the day should we need it", Damandor says while preparing to leave, "I can use it to further help Grunthor and Annysa if they would like?"

Let me know if you would like me to use my last Channel Energy.

Apologies for the abrupt non-posting. I unexpectedly was unable to access the internet. I hope everyone had a good holiday season. (And hope everyone's still here...) :)

Battered and bruised your party pushes on, keen to put as much distance between yourselves and the site of the ambush. You continue along the coast towards Sander's Point and encounter no more trouble throughout the day. The hills are barren and dry on this side of the range, wildlife almost nonexistent. As night falls you seek out a secluded depression in the hills to make camp.

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

After camp is set up, and a meal begun, Damandor turns his attention to those in the party who are injured.

Heal checks for Anyssa, Grunthor, and Flint using 3 uses of my healer's kit for a plus two on each of the checks.

Anyssa's heal check: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 = 26

Grunthor's heal check: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15

Flint's heal check: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19

Anyssa, Grunthor, and Flint all regain twice as many hp during their rest that night as they normally would. 2 hp/level.

After seeing to his companions, Damandor takes an hour to meditate and give his thanks to Corellon for allowing them to live through another day. He will then take first watch, after which he falls swiftly to sleep. (As long as they are not disturbed during the night)

Male Dwarf Druid lv:2

I'm down 3hp, and thanks to Damandor I'll be down only 1 hp in the morning.

Flint takes second watch again, hoping they were not followed...

Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

M Caliban Barbarian 8

Grunthor will take third watch if it doesn't interfer with his restoring hit points.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Before going to sleep Damandor, would you be willing to cast your last energy channelling?

Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian)

Damandor nods in acceptance of Grunthor's request. Concentrating briefly that now familiar burst of positive energy spreads out from Damandor washing over everyone in the camp.

Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4, Flint is now healed before even sleeping, and hopefully the additional hp helps Anyssa and Grunthor along.

Perception check for my turn on watch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

M Caliban Barbarian 8

Thanks

The night passes without incident, although many of you are still unaccustomed to sleeping under the stars. When morning comes, the sky is clear and Grunthor predicts a hot and uncomfortable day of travelling ahead of you.

Hopefully everyone has levelled up fine? It's been a bit stop and start lately, but with luck we havent lost anyone over the new year

I haven't had a chance to level yet. I'm still playing catch-up after the holidays. But it shouldn't take too long. I should get some chance to work on it tomorrow.
