Do ranged touch spell attacks get a dex bonus?

General Discussion (Prerelease)

When a wizard is making a ranged touch spell attack (example evocation school ability energy beam) are there any bonuses added to that attack roll such as Dexterity or Intelligence. How about the wizards BAB?

Thank you

I don't have an official reference, but the answer is yes - add your BAB and dex to the to-hit roll for ranged touch attacks.

Int? this ain't 4th ed Jer :D Dex, definitely yes and BAB yes. A wizard might even have Weapon focus (ranged touch attacks) and can get a CRIT on ranged spells.

Thanks for the quick help :)

Note that touch attacks are basically attacks, and can be treated as attacks for most matters:

  • Get weapon focus (and even the follow-ups if you qualify. And there's a ranged spell specialisation feat that requires caster level 4+ instead of fighter level 4+)
  • Use stuff like sneak attack, point blank shot, precise shot, and so on
  • Score criticals (20/x2 unless improved). That's right. You can crit with scorching ray. Or Disintegrate. All that is required is for the spell do deal damage (rather than impose a penalty or something like that)
