About to be out of work, anyone hiring?

Off-Topic Discussions

I found out this evening that my services will no longer be needed at my current place of employment as of Feb 7th. Does anyone know of any companies who might be hiring?

I am a former USAF Communications Officer (Captain - O3 for you Navy types), carried a TS/SCI clearance. I have a BA in Radio/Television and an MS in Management. I have managed groups of people both small and large. I have managed programs and projects in both stateside and war-zones worth millions of dollars.

I'd love to get back into a creative job using my video production skills, but I am also interested in corporate in-house training and project management as well. Essentially, I'd like a decent job with a stable company (who would't!).

Any pointers, leads, or suggestions will be tremendously appreciated.

Since you have no profile you should tell people were your located and how far you'd be willing to travel for work.

Sorry brother, but I cant help you there. As an Air Force veteren myself,(E-3 3PO31) I wish I could help. I'll keep my ears open though, if you are interested in jobs in Utah or Las Vegas.

Secret info:

Look to your local library. A bunch of things will have to go wrong with the economy before they start closing those down. People with $ tend to back the library and donate to keep them running (as well as talking it up at Kiwanis meetings to local politicians to keep budgets from dropping).

You may have to start out as part time for a while. All that schooling should allow you to make better than starting salary (which is way better than minimum wage). You wont make a mint, but there is the job security issue and other benefits. Its air conditioned in summer / heated in winter. Inside work = awesome! You will get first crack at new materials coming out (get to thumb thru new Stephen King before street date). Plus you can influence what gets bought for system (more comics/independent films/classic metal cds). All that electronic knowledge might finagle you a tech type job...with downloading audio books/RFID projects/helping patrons with mp3 players-cameras-whatever. You might even get on as a trainer of various media programs for the system.

Do not say "I like to read" in interview. All librarians know you dont get to read on the job (well, not officially). Volunteer at a booksale and schmooze a little. I know thats too late for OP, but others in same boat might try the volunteer route. Get your name known for being cheerful/helpful before the interview.

I just heard a story on NPC that Pennslyvania was not being hit with the job losses. In fact they were trying to recruit people to come there because of the low worker base. Of course this might require moving, but that is the cost of staying employed often times (something that we as a country have forgotten).

Good points, all. And you're right, I should have added my location. I'm in the Dallas area (more specifically Rockwall). I don't want to move my family if I don't have to, my oldest is a junior in high school. That being said, I'm not averse to moving on my own (kinda like a deployment - only the liklihood of getting shot at goes way down) for a while.

Checked here yet?

I wish you the best BV210. I will keep you in my prayers!

Now that I've been jobless for just over 2 months I must proclaim my joy at having a VERY promising interview in Lawton, OK on Monday. Should I land it, all indications point to it being not only a much more enjoyable and interesting job, but potentially more lucrative as well.

So hopefully, I'll be looking for a few good gamers in the Lawton area in the near future. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Anyway, I just wanted to share my good fortune. To those out there that are still searching, best of luck to you.
