My first attempt at this post was eaten, so here goes:

I'm (relatively) brand new to Paizo, and never (formally) introduced myself. However, since I finally couldn't handle it anymore, I 'took the leap', and just got a subscription to the Pathfinder Adventure Paths, starting with SD. I certainly cannot wait to get started, and I hope these adventures provide a lot of fun. Anyone have experience with any of the other APs? I'm curious, as I'm trying to decide whether to buy any of the previous ones as well.

In short, Hello everyone!

In short, Hello everyone!

The previous APs are very good! I really, really enjoyed Curse of the Crimson Throne, and I would recommend that whole-heartedly, especially if you're into urban-style adventures.

As for Rise of the Runelords, even though it has its problems here and there, it's still a fantastic AP, even just for the information on ancient Thassilon. There are some bits that need a little work on the GMs part, but there are so many fantastic ideas and quite a few great implementations of said ideas.

I'd still recommend you get RotRL, even if, looking back now, it looks a lot worse than the new APs (undarstandably so, with less resources available to spend on it, and having to do the whole Pathfinder thing for the first time), it's got a neat story, it's a great introduction to Golarion (especially the Varisia region), and it's just overall lots of fun.

Also, welcome to the boards! I'm sure cookies will arrive shortly.

I've also seen that they have older APs from the Dungeon mags, I'm curious about Shackled City.. Anyone play the older ones?

I'm currently running a Shackled City campaign (on hiatus), and I have to say that it is very good. Keep in mind, however, that as the first Adventure Path, it is nowhere near the quality of the recent APs, the Paizo staff has learned alot since then.

Some of the adventures in Shackled City still are some of my favourites, such as the opener "Life's Bazaar", "Flood Season", and "Test of the Smoking Eye". There are 3-4 adventure that I would cut out, however, and the AP has some other problems.

It's definitely worth a look, but check out the Shackled City boards here for tons of useful info. Seriously. It's an invaluable resource.

As for the other ones, I never read Age of Worms (though I've heard nothing but good things). Savage Tide was really good, but some people have complained that it feels a bit railroady. I don't mind that at all in my APs, but each group is different in regards to these things.

Certainly, Savage Tide has some really cool adventures in it, as well as throwbacks to some classics, like the Isle of Dread!

Really, if you have a group that is willing to put enough time in to play these (or if you're just looking for a great read), I'd suggest you look these over!

I'll definitely take a look at them, when funds allow. For now, I'll enjoy Second Darkness. Which looks very good, and almost looks like a 'sequel' to a campaign that ended previous to the one I'm playing now. I'm actually very excited about it.

Yay! Hi there! Have some cookies and beer! *passes out homemade cookies and beer*

Ah, thank you!

There's beer now? Sweet!

As another relatively new poster, I also welcome you to the boards.

so, here goes, again ...

Hi Jason, and welcome on board.

I'm not quite sure how to answer your questions as I don't know too much about your taste. But generally spoken, If you know and enjoyed the Dungeon APs you'll likely much enjoy what Paizo has produced so far. I think that what we've seen so far ist the next step in modern adventure design so as far as their value is concerned I think that the former APs may well be worth their money if you decide to buy them. For me, they are.

Rise of the Runelords is a great way to learn about the new world (and especially Varisia). The adventures generally tend to be of high quality and the story while quite generic is quite enjoyable.

Curse of the Crimson Throne is an urban campaign so if you like this kind of adventuring this should be for you as well.

Warning: without knowing what you like and what you don't like I'm not really competent to give you any advice. Both campaigns seem to have some consistency issues for people who are into such details and there have been quite some heated debates with regard to Paizo's handling of some hot topics. Maybe the best advice that I can give at the moment is to wait a bit and check out the quality of the SD-adventure as well as to check out the campaign forums for some other views.

And take a look at those threads discussing some of the things you should probably know beforehand:

Rise of the Runelords:
Sandpoint is Amazing
Xanesha aka TeePeekay
the infamous "torture porn" thread
Wrestling with Logic in Hook Mountain

Curse of the Crimson Throne:
Cut Scene Discussion
Imps vs. Pseudodragons
Problems with Korvosa
Over before it begins

Note that those threads are in no way meant to disencourage you from buying the former APs. They just serve to show some issues customers have had with those APs. And I could just as easily point you to hundreds of other threads full of respect and admiration of Paizo's work.

And just to restate my opinion: If you can afford to buy them, do it. There is so much awesomeness to find within the pages of RotRLAP and CotCTAP. And awesomesauce on top ^-^

Welcome!

Bought but not yet played/read the SCAP and RORL, currently playing 4 of 12 in the STAP love those muchly (needs more pirates, but dinos to boot!) l. Because of time and homebrews I doubt I will really get beyond the first two (unless someone can tell me where to apply for full-time gamer position. *grin* more importantly:

Welcome!
